; Love the Yorkes, Carbones, Juninhos, Freds - but PLEASE leave the Reinaldos of the world back in Brazil. If i see one more of these blokes do 3 stepovers, and then kick it out, with Cockerill saying "oh what skill, excuse me pass the KY, aggggh" I'll SCREAM. Would love to see some smarty pants Sth American playing around mid game with the ball like that, and either Boogs or Jedi size him up, sweep the ball from out of his feet and then smash him into the turf on follow through. If they stand still long enough that's achievable. There's a time and place for posing and a time and place for doing the basics very well and being consistent. These sorts of comments are getting pretty tasteless Pete. It makes our players sound like thugs at worst, flairless workhorses at best. I'd hate to see a Muscat or Tiatto do that to Kwassy while he was showing the skills like he did to score that goal on Friday. What barron said is pretty right though, unless they are above the standard or adding something into the coaching or development of our players, or putting bums on seats, give an Aussie a go instead.

WTF Yeah Pete might need a little Ritalin with his "smash'em into the turf with a follow through", but seriously are you saying that you would'nt want to see any of our defenders do what they are paid to do and that's smash strikers and keep them from putting the ball into the back of our net ? Crunching, legal tackles on a silky skilled player doesn't demean you to be a thug or is a representation of just being a 'work horse'. Viddy pulled this off perfectly last week with a crunching tackle, inside our own 18 against Phoenix. It was pure class, all-skill, perfect technique & it was legal! Very tasty.

Both are right. With skill, but not with studs up, leg beaking slides that any mug can do. There's a question. What's happened to the studs up rule & also the skill of tackling the "correct way. Front of foot & stealing the ball?
I see two footed studs up hacks numerous times a game with most let go by the ref, from juniors through to aleague.

After 4 rounds has anyones opinions been challenged regarding the prsent Brazilian imports?
I know the more I see the more I'm convinced we need to get over our preoccupation with the notion imports, in particular S. Americans are better. Yes they can be if we can aford to buy the better players, but we can't & are in the main buying equal or less talent than is available under our noses. Maybe this season will lessen the shine.

Yes they can be if we can aford to buy the better players, but we can't & are in the main buying equal or less talent than is available under our noses. Maybe this season will lessen the shine. well, let's see (am adding the costa rican and argentinian lad in this list): 1. Sydney: Juninho - injured but has sparkled in his two games and so he should given his price tag; Patrick - off the pace and can't finish to save himself 2. Melbourne: Love - good sub to have and has showed glimpses of touch and sparkle; Hernandez - fat and slow 3. QLD: Reinaldo - good touches and movement but cannot finish; Marcinho - ditto 4. Newcastle: Denni, Drovandi and Jardel - dud, dud and dud 5. NZ: Felipe - with Cassio the pick of the bunch, great skills and attacking flair; Daniel - decent player but workrate severely drops in the second half; Cleberson - slow and therefore gives away too many fouls; have we seen the other brazilian? 6. Adelaide: Cassio - fantastic attacking left back, great touch, brilliant service and a shot to boot; Diego - average to say the best 7. Mariners: Kawssidinho - all class, all Brazilian By my rough calculations the clubs has spend collectively around $2.5 - $3.0 million on Sth American this season and the only value provided has been by Cassio, Felipe and Daniel. There is no doubt that there are excellent value Sth Americans out there but how much do you have to spend on scouting, recruitment, relocation costs etc to get them here? Objectively, so far, the fascination with Brazilians is unfounded and a massive flop. 2. Melbourne

Cassio is the pick of the bunch & is classy. Juniho is all class but doesn't count being a marquee costing a mill. + Filipe & Daniel standout from the rest of them.

What barron said is pretty right though, unless they are above the standard or adding something into the coaching or development of our players, or putting bums on seats, give an Aussie a go instead. Ok so I made the comment....I can live with the disagreement. I don't need Ritalin either Roddy! I should have not made the last comment about 'smashing into the turf on follow through' - it does imply that I'm advocating a thuggish approach to defense, which the likes of Boogs and Jedi are way too decent as players and people to do cold heartedly. If you read the post, with those comments aside, I'm advocating more the 'time and place' approach to skills and getting the job done in attack, rather than displaying your ball skills as some sort of showpony. If a 'show off' plays around too much with the ball, there is always the chance a decent defender will be able to size them up, and take the ball from under their feet. Meggsi did just that to Yorke in the Grand Final in v1, to the extent that Yorke ended up having a laugh after he had been dispossessed yet again. I've seen it happen dozens of times in all grades of football. That's what I was commenting on, not size them up for a bashing. The comment about 'smashing them into the turf on follow through' is what can happen if the tackle is done at speed. And providing the tackle is effected correctly first, the player contact comes as a result of momentum and not viewed by the ref as intent to cause harm, then it's legit. By making that comment I was being cheeky and apologise that it can also be read that I was demeaning the likes of Boogs or Jedi and the type of players they are. That was certainly not my intent. Both Boogs and Jedi do read the game very well defensively, and effect last minute tackles to perfection. It is thrilling to watch these guys mark up some crafty attacking players. If anyone could dispossess a player by sweeping the ball from under a crafty attacking player it's these guys. Their physical presence is imposing upon smaller attacking players, and in the course of a game, they will come into contact when effecting tackles. The speed of their tackles and their size does mean they have the possibility of unseating attacking players, though that is clearly not their intent when they go into tackles - they just want the attacking move stopped.

If I want to say something, I try to say it correctly. It can take some time. Are you also having a dig, Mick? I've had a bugger of a week, with a sister in hospital then not, a mate supposedly taping the Melbourne game then some lame excuse that the taping didn't happen, having to deal with the State Debt Recovery Office and getting absolutely no where, getting advice from the RTA that my licence is gooooone, now having to talk to the boss about my future sometime this week, AND an Anti Virus program that ain't loading properly. The only positives have been winning some money death riding Sydney in bets and the Mariners drawing in Melbourne, which has given me some pocket money for the week. I'm not in any mood for much this week as you can appreciate.

On the subjest of "interesting" forums, just noticed on the jest forum (Seseme Street) they are calling for Con to force GVE to play all their imports because they know better than the coach & they aren't shite. Freakin childish nutters. I must be as silly reading it BTW....that's one shite of a week Pete.

Whoninho is pretty good. But ultimately not needed with corica one of the best players in that position in the league for me. No doubt also on a decent salary. Money on "the who" would have been better spent on say, aloisi, so they had someone to score goals. Not that i am complaining

five rounds in now felipe had an excellent game and love was a nuisance but aprt from that it has been another bleak day on the brazilian experiment I thought Denni showed spurts of good play - not enough to write home about, but enough to write on this topic Jardel - 1 good header thats it, how he got any power on that header is beyond me. Patrick scored any easy goal, the only easier shot so far was his miss earlier on in the season, OH and that perth miss last night I dont care if you outplay your opponents for the full 90mins if you miss a shot like that you dont deserve to win

I'll bet my house the jest don't have a S. American next season if van egmond has anything to do with it after the finger burning lesson he's getting at the moment. Along with alot of other clubs btw. Jardel had one good header?.....have to add that to the one good touch he had the week before eh.

GVE made it very clear in no uncertain terms that it was NOT his idea. His tone was that of a very displeased coach. Con's record with coaches (& he has had a heap) is a piss poor one. When they relise he wants a yes man they hit the road. (in the direction of their solicitor )
