Rocked up to Bay 16 last night and immediately saw Marinermum in a stoush with a security guard.
It seems that Marinermum was not allowed to wave her boxing kangaroo flag because "it might incite racial violence".

It seems that Marinermum was not allowed to wave her boxing kangaroo flag because "it might incite racial violence". What was worse about that was it was an FFA flag! Eggy was also asked to remove his large boxing Kangaroo flag. Credit to the security guard that he did actually radio to confirm that it was only Australia and Lebanon national flags that were permitted. but still stupid! It did make a lovely head scarf though.

I'm guessing if they radioed to confirm it probably came as a direction from the AFC, maybe?

I heard something about it being a blanket ban, that can also carry over into A-League games, they were banning the Brazilian Flag at some of the Syd games too.

There were many forces at work there last night. Where I sat, there seemed to be more accreditation passes than ticket holders.
No-one seemed to care that there were Iraqi flags waved in Bay 8! Where were security then?
Also, all the Australian team's Quantas sponsorship was taped over, presumably as a result of Emirates being the AFC sponsor.

So were all the Bluetongue advertising boards. It was Kirin stadium last night. Not that you could buy any. Did anyone have a halal pie?

Grunta did, he was pissed off that he couldn't get it topped with some tabouli or homous. Mariner Mum was going off last nite, especially after her fracas with security in Qld last week and then again last nite, she'll be on a APEC watch list soon enough. She also mastered the Leb 'tongue-shrill perfectly, in between schooners. ;D'

I heard something about it being a blanket ban, that can also carry over into A-League games, they were banning the Brazilian Flag at some of the Syd games too. That comes from a rule introduced during the NSL - no international flags at national level matches. Makes sense - you're supposed to be supporting a club, not Greece, Croatia, or Italy, etc. However supporting Brazilian players in the A-league doesn't seem the same. But rules are rules...

I think I was near that flag and heard a security guard behind me radioing to someone that there was a flag that was not Australian and also "not the one with the Christmas tree on it". Shortly after that I didn't see it being waved again.

If they are approved by the FFA eg. the aussie & boxing roo what's the problem & wouldn't you have a case to refuse to remove it?
What the hell with an Iraq flag?

I understand the point of banning irrelevant flags, eg. supporting a team or nation who is not one of the competing teams, but what else - other than Australia in sport - does the BK represent? Plus it's green and gold, which is probably why it's so popular. From Wiki (i know): "The image was bought by the Australian Olympic Committee and the Australian Olympic Team carried a boxing kangaroo toy at the Opening ceremony of the 2000 Sydney Olympics. The mascot was also used by the 2004 Australian Olympic team. The symbol is often displayed prominently at Australian sporting matches, for example Cricket" This needs an edit : "...But is banned at matches featuring the Australian Olympic Football Team" Where do you draw the line; You can make your own banner in national colours. The FFA website sells green & gold flags featuring kangaroos. shop.footballaustralia.com.au/Supporter_Gear/Supporter_Gear/view.aspxHow is this or the official national flag any less likely to insight racial violence?

How is this or the official national flag any less likely to insight racial violence? cronulla rioters wore the national flag, not the FFA's supporters flag... tbh i think maybe someone got overzealous in their briefings. boxing kangaroo inciting violence, sheesh! it's a bloody olyroos game, not a boozed up mob of rednecks chasing people around a beach.

I think 'they', stadium management / security / FFA and or AFC were a tad over excited about what 'might' happen due to the fact that there is a large proportion of Lebanese peep's living in Aust, that and APEC was a week ago.
