Could be called derby weekend, and with good reason. Mariners vs. Newcastle Sydney vs. Melbourne Outside of Melbourne vs. Adelaide and Mariners vs. Sydney, these are the two biggest games on the A-League calendar, and I for one can't wait to watch them. Shoelady, myself, and possibly my housemate are heading down to Sydney on Saturday night to watch the Bling/Tards battle it out (possibly off the field as well ), and then we'll be there with bells on on Sunday to FIRE UP THE FARKIN' UP FARKIN'!!!! and send Newcastle packing with a 3-0 win. My tips for the weekend: Perth vs. Adelaide - Adelaide by at least 3 Sydney vs. Melbourne - Draw, 2-2 Mariners vs. Newcastle - Mariners 3-0 QLD vs. Wellington - 2-1 to the Kiwi's

I didn't want to start a new thread for this, but for those who are interested, Anthony Lapaglia will be on Nova 96.9 tomorrow morning talking about Sydney FC. It will be interesting to see what he says.

He's jumping ship just like everyone else?? Nah, I reckon he'll be hyping Saturday's game - as well he should be, it's the biggest fixture in the League, it NEEDS a big crowd.

Without a trace By Val Migliaccia and David Davutovic October 02, 2007 SYDNEY FC shareholder Anthony LaPaglia could be investing in rival A-League club Adelaide United.
The Hollywood actor was being wined and dined by United football director and former chief executive Michael Petrillo and injured marquee player Paul Agostino in Sunday's win over Central Coast.
He watched the game from a corporate box at Hindmarsh Stadium, where he played in the NSL with Adelaide City and West Adelaide.
LaPaglia, who was born in Adelaide and has a 7.5 per cent stake in Sydney FC, is believed to be eager to spread his soccer wings in a possible partnership with Adelaide United.
Sydney FC chief executive George Perry said investing in a rival club had not been raised. "To the best of my knowledge he's shareholder of Sydney FC and we've not discussed about him investing in other clubs," said Perry, who was unaware that LaPaglia was in Australia.
"But I would have thought it would be a conflict of interest (investing in another club) if he's a director of Sydney."
Petrillo said he preferred not to comment about a pending business deal involving LaPaglia and Adelaide United.
"We discussed a whole range of things to do with the A-League and football in general," Petrillo said. "I don't want to comment on anything else."
It is believed Adelaide owner Nick Bianco is also keen to share the club's ownership. Last year Bianco became the sole Adelaide director when philanthropist Gordon Pickard sold his share to the building mogul.
LaPaglia flew to Adelaide on Saturday to join his ex-teammates at (Adelaide club) Azzurri to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the club's first premiership.
But he will miss Sydney FC's blockbuster against Melbourne Victory on Saturday as he departed for Los Angeles.
Of concern to Sydney would be LaPaglia's relationship with Petrillo. They have a long history with the pair training together under former Australian keeper Charlie Horvath in the 1970s as teenagers.
Petrillo said he rekindled the relationship with LaPaglia once he became a shareholder of Sydney FC after investing a reported $750,000 in 2005.
LaPaglia has been lower profile since season one and particularly since his very public spat with coach Terry Butcher last season.
Although he did travel to Japan for the club's Champions League clash against Urawa Reds in May and is set to do a round of radio interviews this week to help promote Sydney's match against Melbourne.
"He's been very helpful and made very constructive contributions," Perry said.
LaPaglia had not visited Hindmarsh Stadium since 1980, when he was part of the defunct West Adelaide side.
"It's the first time he's been back to Hindmarsh in 27 years," Petrillo said.
"He was very impressed with the stadium and impressed with the team. He wished he'd come back earlier and he'd certainly like to pop into Adelaide again. He's keen on promoting the league and marketing it properly and he sees a very big future in it."

La Paglia goes to an Adelaide match, but can't find the time to go to a Sydney match the next week? And this, from a guy who was supposedly able to re schedule shooting time for a TV series in the US so he could squeeze in a Sydney match a couple of years ago? Guess he's viewing his investment differently these days.

Maybe Uncle Pete should give him a call and let him know where it's best to put his investment? I'm sure he has his personal mobile number somewhere, from the days when they were on the Sydney FC Board together.

Don't you mean "the days when they sat in the same room as Uncle Frank and pretended that it wasn't an autocracy"??
P.S. In answer to your avatar question, "nearly" would be my response. We need a bit more fire, and this Sunday is the answer to that problem. ;D

Might actually go into Bay 16 for the first time this season (apart from the Olyroos game) f I don't have folks to meet inside the ground, or at CCLC. That should fire me up enough, I think.

With no league or afl, if sydney do not get 20k they should be shot. They should be hoping for25k this weekend. First we had people wanting to throw stuff at opposition spectators, now we have people wanting the Sydney team shot if they don't get 20K! Dick No-one would have a field day with this!!!! "Sokkah Hooligan / Terrorist Threat against Glamma Team" ;D ;D (Sydney should get a decent crowd, btw, folks would want to see some revenge for the Victorian team taking out the NRL Grand Final)

My crowd tips or more hopes are and scores
Perth vs. Adelaide - crowd 6, 000 score 2 nill to Adelaide then a new coach Sydney vs. Melbourne - crowd 22, 000 score 1 all draw, Mariners vs. Newcastle - crowd 15, 000 score 2 nill Mariners QLD vs. Wellington - crowd 19, 000 score 3 Roar 2 Nix
Given we have three derby games, CCM V Scum, FC V Tards, Ald V Perth and the other with two very attacking teams no NRL, no AFL, given good weather the above crowds should be achieved.
Under 60, 000 would not be a good and as serious 14 said the A-League needs Sydney to get a decent crowd.
FFA also need to go and talk to the Glory boys and sort some old arguements out because after Nick left and as he warned FFA made some big mistakes in the west. So BB go and help solve problems maybe even go and make up with Nick, the A-League also needs a strong Perth.

Perth need a reboot, this is getting past a joke....... I know it's a sad and wrong thing to say, but it really is getting to that point. Western Australia FC (or something similar), there's no reason that concept couldn't do well. W.A. has corporate dollars out the wazoo these days with the resource boom.
