dont worry he will get another chance. The Eagles wont end his contract, since he needs to fail an drugs test for that to occur. wwos.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=306291The article states "When Cousins made his comeback, West Coast Eagles president, Dalton Gooding, said Cousins was on his last chance. He refused at the time to say whether that meant another indiscretion would mean instant dismissal but there is little doubt the club's board will need to hold an emergency meeting on Cousins' future. If the club doesn't sack him, the AFL has the power to deregister the player."

It appears he will never play again. Very sad, he is a million dollar talent, as you can see from his upper body strength.
You can see why Chris Judd left, Kerr, Cousins, Gardiner, Chick, etc.
Cousins was/is a SUPERB footballer, but sadly, he has a problem with substance abuse. I hope he gets off the gear, permanently, and can live the rest of his life in peace.

Wouldnt have happened with BB in charge - he believes in letting players get away with anything :-)
Seriously (and leaving my growing loathing of the FFA to oneside) it is pretty obvious that the club has massive "issues" and have ignored player welfare as long as the results kept coming. When they thought he could come back and play - heaps of support. Gets done again - byeeeeeee.

Must disagree for the first offence, Aaron. I'd give 'em one chance to fix the error. Second time, gooooooooooooooone. In Cousins' case, WCE management really had no option. The AFL can take premiership points off them if they don't act properly.
Perth is such a goldfish bowl for AFL players. makes you think of playing for the Glory (nah, stuff that!) or the Western Force for some peace of mind.

There's a few things running around my head at the moment on this issue and those similar (Johns, Marion Jones etc.), but ultimately, the athlete is responsible for themself, and they are very aware that the image they spend so much time fostering in the media and in their community, is also one that loads pressure upon them.
And they know that if they get caught up with cheating on drugs, or taking illicit substances off the field, they can find themself in the headlines for all the wrong reasons, and lose it all.
If they don't want the high profile, they can always be the team player and lead a more or less normal life. But they won't attract the sponsors, nor the appearance fees that the high profile stars get offered.
They have to balance what suits them or else run the risk of putting themselves under the pressure of the spotlight and have that pressure get to them.
None of this mentioned above, however, condones crossing the line and drug cheating or taking illicit substances when out and about.
Young players, from the moment they step into a top level club, should have it bored into their brain that because of their profession they have an additional burden placed upon them to be very responsible citizens at all times. Can't deal with that burden then get out.
Professional sport is a very competitive profession to choose. And at some point, you can be guaranteed that your career will finish, whether it be a career ending injury, your spot taken by a younger player or you simply just aren't good enough. That can lead to a 'live today', kamikaze type of approach to all things in your life as you realise that an injury tomorrow may mean it all goes.
Which makes the drug taking, drug cheating athletes more bemusing. Why risk what they have when they know that what they are doing is totally wrong, both for their profession and life in general?
Is it the live for today ethic gone mad? Is it the pressure of being who they are getting to them and the need to get some relief on that pressure? Do the stars get offered the substances or do they seek it out?
Lots of little questions and I suppose, unless you are actually in a similar position to them, you won't understand why they make those stupid decisions that would affect not only their career, but their life too.
IMHO, and a very humble one at that, I feel that Cousins has done himself an injustice by trying to play this year. He should have stayed at the rehab longer, stayed away from Perth longer, and stayed away from AFL.
With the support of his family, and the WCE too perhaps, he should have stayed in a place like NZ - where he wouldn't have been known at all - rented a small place and got his head together with good psych help and medical attention. Going back to where he got into trouble in the first place was not a good end result for him after the efforts in rehab.
That said though, he came back and tried to resume his career as if nothing had happened in the off season which I would say is nothing more than arrogance to his plight. Well, unfortunately, drug addiction and issues with illicit substances, don't work to the AFL playing calendar, and the terms of his last contract.
He should have been counselled about the risk he was taking trying to hold himself up as someone who has overcome his issues with drugs, when experts probably believe that once you reach that level of dependency, the recovery will take a long time (and much longer than an off season and pre season stint in rehab).
I just hope for his sake, and his family's, that he can somehow get himself sorted out and get his life back under control. It is a fair bet to say his career is finished.
