Righto, let's take what we've learned about the sub-standard performance of Bay 16 from Saturday night and put it towards making the place an absolute cauldron of noise for the visit of Sydney FC and The Cove this coming Sunday.......
Let us also try and put behind us the ugly scenes from the 80th minute onwards - n00bs are always going to try and look "well 'ard" infront of their mates and it's unfortunate that the rest of us have to put up with it. In future I say we notify security (aggressively if need be - really get in their faces and get the point across that we of the drums and megaphones are NOT the trouble makers) and leave it to them. We don't need a Cove style situation where a core group wants to leave and go sit/stand somewhere else.
This Sunday:
More and louder drumming during the chants and to cover the inevitable lull spots during the game (although if we can minimise these it would be great too).
Call and response chants - I personally have one in mind that I'm going to give a whirl on Sunday and see how it goes. It's another way of getting 15, 17, and maybe even more bays involved. It also sounds the shiz when a thousand people yell something at the top of their voices in unison.
CEEEEENTRAL COOOOOAST!!! (CEEEEENTRAL COOOOOAST) SCORE US A GOOOOOOAL!!!! (SCORE US A GOOOOOOAL!!!!) WIN US THE A-LEAGUE!!! (WIN US THE A-LEAGUE!!!) AND BRING IT ON HOOOME!!!! (AND BRING IT ON HOOOME!!!!)
Repeat and segue into an 'Ole Ole Ole'
Any other verses that anyone wishes to come up with I'm more than keen to have a go at - just think how good it could sound with 4 or 5 verses and _then_ seguing into a mass 'Ole Ole Ole'.......
The Cove are going to be travelling in good numbers for this game (1500 minimum) and it's essential that we all co-ordinate to make sure that we repeat the smashingly excellent crowd effort from the 13/10 game (_especially_ the second half from said game).
Ideas/Comments - let's get the bay as unified and as loud as it can be.
;D

have been thinking about a new song as well (or a variation on one we do anyway...).
could even meld it into the one you've got serious?
call - CEEEEENTRAL COOOOOAST!!! response- (CEEEEENTRAL COOOOOAST) call - SCORE US A GOOOOOOAL!!!! response- (SCORE US A GOOOOOOAL!!!!) call - WIN US THE A-LEAGUE!!! response - (WIN US THE A-LEAGUE!!!) call - AND BRING IT ON HOOOME!!!! response- (AND BRING IT ON HOOOME!!!!)
[to the tune of the choruses in 'yellow submarine' - maybe jumping in time (arms over your neighbour's shoulders), or spinning scarves?] ole ole ole ole ooooooooh mariners
ole ole ole ole ooooooooh mariners
[naturally segue into...] we all follow a yellow football team a yellow football team a yellow football team
we all follow a yellow football team a yellow football team a yellow football team
it's simple, and we could even repeat it if we wanted to keep noise going for a while...
feel free to throw rocks at me if it's shit.

That noob (though he has been to every game in bay 16 this year) had every right to blow up as he did.
I find it absolutely disgraceful that the megaphone should be used a device to project swearing. Under no circumstances should people who have the megaphone swear in them.
The so called noob was having a go at the person swearing in the megaphone and had every right to do so.
As both parties involved are agressive in their nature it was inevitable that things blew up.

I completely agree and was just about to post something along the same lines.
I realise I sound like a broken record but i'm going to say it again anyway.
1. There is absolutely no need for swearing in any chants under any circumstance. We are trying to promote a family environment.
2. Those who have the megaphone should not swear into them, ever. I don't care what the situation is, its not called for.
If we continue to swear it will give us a bad reputation. Nobody wants that.
I will make it my life long mission if I have to. No swearing in chants, no swearing in the megaphone.

Mick, Teriyaki - I completely agree on the swearing front and at no time have I ever condoned swearing in choreographed chants....... I was at the Sydney game on Friday night and the amount of swearing in their singing was disgusting.
Btw, the n00bs I was referring to were the bottle throwers - that shit is just not on.
Dibo - scarf twirling always looks fantastic and to keep the chant going as long as possible can only be a good thing as long as we work really hard to keep the same pace. 'Kinda slow' is an excellent idea that I'm a big fan of. Hope to get your help on this chant come Sunday........ just think how good 2 whole bays yelling this chant back at me would sound for the peoples on halfway. Throwing in a "Mariners!!! *clap* *clap* *clap*" might be a good idea after the rest of the songs as well, 'cause that is a chant that as basic as it sounds, gets the crowd involved.

The challenge of having the Cove 50 metres from us will bring out the best in us. I cannot wait for another great crowd and another good game. The Bling are in excellent touch and will be hard for us to dismantle. I am confident that we will prevail.
Funny, but the form three teams in the HAL right are the NSW clubs.
As for the Bay, it was an interesting experience being there on Saturday Night. I think we will be more focussed this week, as we have the best co-ordinated supporters group in the HAL to challenge us. A united Bay 16 it will be.
As for the swearing, the megaphone should be used for family-friendly chants from now on.
Regards,
AM

Auburn - would love to have your support on the call-and-response chant I've come up with......... my voice is loud, but in all honesty it can't compare to yours.

Good thread serious....anybody that thinks we had a good performance in Bay 16 is kidding themselves.
Sitting in the front right hand corner of Bay 15, I honestly couldn't make out many chants. We were definitely quieter than usual.
Our numbers were definitely down, which didn't help. I'd say it appeared that way because a number of Bay 16ers migrated to Bay 15, then sat down and stayed quiet.
The person on the megaphone should NOT GET INVOLVED IN THE SHIT. Period. When the person on the megaphone was having a go at somebody else in Bay 15 I think it was I was looking over thinking 'that's not good at all....that's not what we want'.
Same with swearing....if we swear over the megaphones or incite others then we're definitely going to lose them.
Agree with the others that swearing in the chants in completely unnecessary, 'f*****g' can always be replaced with 'bloody'.
Sitting with the Den friday night, they used the F word a lot in their chants.
Bay 15/17 will not get involved until we start getting a few people up the back making a point of getting them involved. There's no atmosphere in bay 15. You can't expect random people to make themselves stand out by singing. We need to start up the back with a few of the Bay 16 regulars, some with loud voices, some that come on here and know what's going on....that's the ONLY way to get Bay 15 going. And that's something we haven't really done yet.
I say those people should be up the back because you can't stand in Bay 15 if you're in the middle or up the front. Sitting elsewhere in the bay and singing you can usually get a few kids around you to sing and clap for a short while but that's about it. Bay 15 does not have Bay 16's atmosphere, and until we have enough numbers to fill 2/3 of both bays I don't think they ever will.
We will perform better against the cove.
I think the megaphones belong up the front too, not in the middle of Bay 16. It seems that's the best place to conduct from, IMO.
Call and response with 15/17 would work great....though maybe Bay 16 should do the response (the response should be louder). Otherwise, just keep it in bay 16, don't bother trying to split it across bays yet.

I might jump on the broken record bandwagon here and ask again - can we *PLEASE* either drop or change the words to "the central coast is wonderful' chant. (the ' it's full of t***, f*** and the mariners' line if your wondering)
Bay 16 has more than a handfull of females (and kids) now and the girls ive spoken to so far have all had the same opinion - they hate it....can we find something else for the central coast to be full of?

We were watching the A-league games on TV at Melsy & Bear's place yesterday and many times I could hear the supporters using the F word in chants on the television, so it isnt just the Bay and surroundings who can hear it.

I'd like to join the drummers at home games. I play the congas. I rang the stadium and they said they would let me in with it. Jonathan

yet again another thread a changed into a stop swearing thread!
I'm not going to mention anything about Saturday nights events as this thread was started by serious to talk about the Sydney game, not swearing in songs or preventing what happened on Saturday happening again.
On sunday it's simple, wear yellow, sing loud and have fun! We want drummers and plenty of them (thank you globe for putting your hand up), megaphone users use them effectively to get people chanting and keep chants simple!

swearing... over a year ago, i teed up a coupla discussions on swearing and (what i considered to be) inappropriate songs (in this thread), and we had a further discussion later when someone wrote to the paper complaining about us saying f***. i think over the short time we've been doing this gig, the age range of marinators has broadened and we've got a hell of a lot more women in the bay than we did at the start (i was at the inital double header, but only started standing in bay 16 in the pre-season cup match against qld). also, while before we had basically ourselves and then acres of space, as our crowds have grown and as we've become more part of the furniture, we have more people immediately near us, leading to us having a greater (for want of a better term) responsibility to make sure we're not giving people the complete shits. the stadium mgmt has also made its views known and we walk a careful line in what we do and sing in order to maintain a cooperative relationship. that said, we will sing all sorts of things, and we are certainly going to drop a few choice words from time to time. i think we've roughly hit the right balance on swearing, there aren't usually too many issues, though bellowing 'f***' at any time, in any context through the megaphone is surely not on. i reckon that line of 'oh central coast is wonderful' could certainly be replaced with something less offensive with very little harm, but it's up to somebody to suggest it. it's gonna need to be funny too, else i don't reckon it'd get up. we've got a good thing going, we're getting slowly bigger and better and stronger and louder, and we're feeling our way along.

Good post dibo. At least we've moved on from the 'tits out for the boys' days...lol
There's always a portion of the bay who sing 'I can't hear a f****** thing', ' you must be f****** deaf', etc etc instead of bloody....I daresay they're the ones who don't come on here either so they've never given any consideration to the appropriateness of the swearing.
But, as DJ said, there's more to talk about than whether or not we should be swearing.
While the rivalry between the Marinators and Cove last time was absolutely fantastic, I don't think we should be doing as many anti-Sydney chants this time. I think we all agree we focussed too much on the Cove and not enough on the game at the last Bling match.

agreed. i felt wasted up the back with my megaphone.
this sunday, will be very happy to do the conducting. i need someone preferably tiger or dibes, someone who knows the hand signals for chants. im sure thatll help as it took alot of direction on saturday to get both left and right of Bay 16 in the chants and not just the middle core.

Im trying to see if I can get a proper harness for my drum for sunday. My finger tips are still sore from being crushed between the rim and the shell for 90 minutes...and my hand is nicely blue from Serious it with the stick when he was having a go. I think for the next game we (the drummers) need to be together for a while to get some chemistry going on...so we can play in time together. I am a drummer, that drum I bought was off my kit, hence why it had a funny looking attachment, and a proper drum bag, but I had to really concentrate for a whle there at one point trying to stay in time with the other drummers. And not having played at a match before either didnt help either. How loudly did my drum come across?? Someone referred to it as a cannon...
I also have a proper cowbell I can bring if someone wants to bang away on that...not sure how well it would fit in but its an idea.
