I agree with DJ (and also mick, brett, & NS) in that professional banners are great as they last the distance and look better than a painted yellow hankie, but also having that suplimented with lots of home made spotlight stuff does show lots of 'home made love' ! The stadium have allocated us a few spots to choose from to put our 'marinators.net' banner this year that face the outside of the stadium (traffic) which will be brilliant. I would much rather the sponsors get pride of place as they are putting $$$$'s into the Mariners account and ultimately that serves everyone better than us having our marinators.net banner in their place. The Marinators club with its new position of 'Club Captain' will also be able to allocate certain funds for banners & flags so all in all.....a brilliant season coming up....bring on the tiffo's!!! (you watch 'Serious14' jump alll over that one now! LOL )

a nice balance is whats needed i.e some professional banners that highlight the high level of organisation of our support as well as hand made ones that show the passion of the die-hard fans... if we can strike a nice balance everyones a winnner

Well, my "bogan free zone" banner will be present at EVERY single Newcastle away game, until the day I die, and im also making a "life is yellow" one, with a white backround, black writing except the word "yellow" which will be in yellow, for home games. Like the Red Diamond fans had with life is red on it, if anyone saw it. Looked great, and I love that saying.

I think we should bring politics onto the terraces and make banners accordingly

I think we should bring politics onto the terraces and make banners accordingly 'smash newcastle - witholding grain from the masses since 2000' (when the breakers got the arse) 'sydney: bourgeois scum' 'culina - first up against the wall when the revolution comes' 'destroy melbourne victory - enemies of the people' and because football doesn't exist in a bubble 'defend north korea - defend the workers' paradise and their right to nucelar weapons' if anyone's pisstake radar missed that i'm kidding, turn it up. actually - 'power to the yellow people' could be kinda cool.

Hey Dibo - let's support Lazio in their valiant struggle against Tottenham whilst we're at it...... bring on the tiffo's!!! (you watch 'Serious14' jump alll over that one now! LOL ) Tifo's are the shiz and you know it. ;D ;D ;D I certainly agree with your sentiments though - bring 'em on. The more color and spectacle the better.

Gday Marinators!
Firstly i should say that i am from the heart and soul of the cove and to be honest i must say that your site is very, VERY, impressive so well done with that one. but no, im not a mariners fan.
I have about 3 banners (that havent been to games yet cos they werent finished by the acl campaign) and they are pretty easy to make. i saw someone mention the 'sfcu' site where this kid who is a genius made a step by step how to on making banners. well its pretty much simplified as this-
1. go to spotlight and get about 20m of fabric in your chosen colour
2. get a few designs drawn up on paper or on the comp. for you photoshop users. (if you have trouble thinking of designs just go to youtube and look around at supporters groups and implement them for your club)
3. transfer them onto a overhead slide and then put them onto a overhead projecter.
4. trace your design
5. take it to game
so yeah, use it or not, thought i could be a bit of help....
CB!!! ;D

With the team we have for V3. One banner we need is "ALL THE WAY TO ASIA"

Some banner suggestions:
"We hate you 'cos you're a Victorian" - the ultimate sledge
"The best thing about South Australians is that they are NOT Victorians"
"My name is Kevin Muscat/Frank Farina/Nicky Carle - but people call me Forrest Gump" - self-explanatory
"David Zdrillic is a muppet" - again, self-explanatory
"Carney is a bogan"
"Archie Thompson's illegitimate - he ain't go no birth certificate"
Just for starters.

I quite fancy the 'bogan free zone' idea. Although with the 'life is yellow one' you may need to outline it in a dark yellow-orange or darker colour, or maybe use a dark yellow/orange becuase it may not be readable from a distance, the lights might cause a bit of glare if it's white... yadda yadda.

What about:
"Newcastle wankers - they love a good tug"
References to Pasha Bulker intentional. ;D

Im going to put the "life is" in blue, and "yellow" in a very dark yellow on a white backround. Im sure it will look fine.
