So, that wasnt too bad a game i reckon, glad we drew, and didnt loose. How were the police there though? a friend and myself counted about 20 behind the cove and marinators alone. Didnt see any fights or anything, which is good....

I disagree - even though it those seem that way. They had many chances, and they just couldn't puul off a good shot. Not to mention that last-minute slide tackle by sully... Anyway Mariners website have an article now, and both the site and MacKinna agree that a draw was the deserved result. Seems the A-league website agrees with that. Unfortunately Kwasnik scored, but that got dissallowed, and then he messes up a one on one... Stats show that we had 52 % possession, bit more corners, 3 offsides each, 3 shots on target for us to their 6 on target. That shows that we were slightly better, but probably the result is fair. Still, what a freekick from Mrdja!

Fantastic game though, quite entertaining. Gumps started off with a lot of mungrel, he was really fired up. A lot of players really stepped up to the mark....unfortunately there was just something holding us back from capitalising on all that good football and I can't figure out what it was. We totally dominated for the first 20-30min (they barely got the ball out of their half)but they started to get some momentum, and the 2nd half was pretty even. I think after we went a while without scoring we started to lose a bit of steam and started to lose a bit of polish on our plays. Still made more basic errors than I would've liked which is always going to keep us away from the top of the ladder, but we definitely saw last season's Mariners tonight. Playing with pace, creativity....attacking from every which direction, putting on good counterattacks, capitalising on defenders caught out of position, supporting, making good runs off the ball - and it wasn't just limited to one or two players, a lot of players stepped up tonight (one or two didn't perform to their capacity, but oh well)
Sydney also had some very good chances...we weren't the only ones.
But OH MY GOD how good was Sully's tackle right at the end??? Saved the match!!!

I felt we were the better team and should have been at LEAST 1 up by half time. Disappointed with the draw but we played well and reminded Sydney that we are a force to be reckoned with!
Atmosphere was fantastic! Very noisy crowd! Great to hear the marinators in fine form! Well done bay 16!

I think we deserved to win especially through the first half performance. Gumps was absolutely outstanding. The referee was an absolute disgrace. Any appeal Sydney made was given straight away. Dont know why he is reluctant to bring Porter on. The few minutes this kid has played has totally impressed me.
Of course this thread couldn't be complete without a Kwassy dig. Did anyone alse feel that we were going to remain scoreless when Nik came off and Kwassy moved to the lone striker? As the bloke behind me cried out, lets swap Kwassy with Petrovski.

I think kwassie is unfairly criticised. Todays game he worked his but off. He may have missed that chance on edge of the box but he worked hard for every ball and had a good game once again.

I don't think that was an easy chance though....Bolton had the angle totally covered, there wasn't much goal left for Kwassie to shoot into. I don't really hold that miss against him.

I don't think that was an easy chance though....Bolton had the angle totally covered, there wasn't much goal left for Kwassie to shoot into. I don't really hold that miss against him. see the replay again. i gave him the benefit of the doubt until i saw the highlights. a lot of the goal was quite open it wasnt the prettiest of matches. both sides were a bit below par and draw was fair. sully was my man of the match. he just keeps on keeping on. not just with his expert tackle, but all game every game, he does his job solidly without a fuss. fantastic to see gumps back, he has some real talent. i am quite pleased with the result, sure we could have won, but games like these happen, and it was good to see the club can get results while playing below their capability. tommy seemed a bit flat. i thought brown had a good game, although there is room for improvement on his dead ball deliveries. jedi should keep spencer on the bench. fantastic crowd again and a good atmosphere. just thinking after tonights game, what would you think about petrie moving in a strikers position to help support mrdja, the 4-2-3-1 system has its downfall.

he played well but messes up that shot. He could of at least got it on target... Agree with the bad refing - particlarly when their defneder obviously kicked it out for a corner, and then they got the goal kick...

Gumprecht man of the match by a million years......... but that tackle from Sully?? Tackle of the season, bar none. That was technically incredible.
The heavy police presence was disgraceful - it only served to heighten the NON-EXISTENT tensions between the crowd and the authorities. If what happened to that Sydney fan out the front after the game is true then that is a disgrace and it has to be investigated ASAP. Batons, at a f***ing A-League game?? For Christ's sake, no-one was ever going to cause trouble. Police, if you read this - stay away. You're not welcome and you're not needed. (controversial opinion I know, but honestly, what good have they done??)

Once Krispy Kreme opens at Mingers theyll otherwise occupied doing investigative work lol. 40 Riot Squad to prepare for hooligan behaviour what a f***ing joke. Also to the journo who was responsible for the Express article mate you have done the Mariners and those that have followed them from its inception and have flogged their guts out to see this team work a massive disservice and you should be taken out the back and flogged.

Did anybody actually count the number of cops it took to escort Jesus out? The line of cops stretched almost up to the top of the bay - and Jesus was down near the front!!
I wonder how much of the heavy-handed police activity came as a result of that idiot claiming to be from CSE and from the article?

He wasn't dancing on seats giving them the finger like last time was he? I did that multiple times - to the Sydney players, the Cove, and the police, and _nothing_ came of it....... I even called multiple policeman and security "muppets" for their heavy handed and completely unnecessary efforts, and all I got was a few looks. Many of you would have noted that I was on my seat for minutes at a time and nothing came of it - perhaps because I did not have a beer in hand?? The treatment of Jesus was disgraceful......

I was out having a smoke as they led him away - reason given as the walked down the steps - too intoxicated, go figure.
As for the game, we dominated the 1st half and should have had the game won by HT. 2nd half was pretty even but SFC's substitutions were starting to stetch us.
Jedinak is awesome, can easily keep Spencer out of the side because he is a real box to box midfielder. We need to sign this kid permanently.
As a few of us feared, Kwassie was kept in his box by Ceccolli (spelling?) and that 1:1 is the sort of chance someone at this level needs to take. The minute St Nik went off, 0-0 was the best we could hope for.
Police presence seemed pointless to me, they didnt keep the bling out of bay 15 and failed to stop about 4 half full bottles coming over. Top work tools!!
Happy with a point :-)
