I like softball!
I'm just going to ignore Gibbs and all people like him. For in 15 years their sport will be a far second, at best, to The Beautiful Game. I don't know what sport Gibbs prefers, Rugby or the other Rugby but I know that neither of them can hope to have an international tournament as spectacular as the World Cup. The World Cup. Football will surely rise to the top of Australia's sporting conscience because of it's global appeal. There are many other aspects that make "soccer" the outstanding best sport in the world, but it's global dominance alone will ensure it's success in this country, of that I'm hopeful and confident. At which time, Gibbs' sport of choice and probably his second sport of choice, ie. Rugby and Rugby Mk II, in no particular order, will not even warrant mention by the football journalists of Australia, whereas, as Brett pointed out, Gibbs has devoted 1000 words to a sport that he believes noone seems to know about. This is the last time that I ever waste more than moments thinking about Football-phobic Rugby-heads.

Compare the news of Lawrie signing a good contract extension and the effect that would have on our boys to Pierre saying that he might go if he doesn't get bucket loads of cash and the underlying disloyalty that he's showing to his team.
We've got this one in the bag, pschologoically speaking!

Gary Glitter was going to do the pre-game entertainment but he got caught up with the pre-adolescent entertainment! ;D

So true. On what criteria did they make their nominations?

I'm going to Mingara tomorrow, anyway.
2GO is offering free breakfast. ;D
If they keep feeding me for free they aren't going to turn a profit for this fiscal year.

I'll be there some family members. I don't know how many of them would have to leave before 8.00 though.

Spenny's Spiel #26 Thursday, 2 March, 2006 - 3:00PM
Two matches have passed since my last spiel, so there’s plenty to catch up on!
Firstly, our final home match of the season against the Newcastle United Jets was a night to remember.
The crowd was outstanding, obviously it was the biggest crowd of our season and the Central Coast public really did come out in numbers.
As it turns out, it seems that it was the fans that got us over the line!
When we went 1-0 down, our fans were outstanding and pivotal to us getting back to 1-1 and qualify for the Preliminary Final.
The numbers there was a perfect example of how football fever has hit the coast!
We’re extremely proud of our fans and the least we can do is to claim the Hyundai A-League championship this Sunday.
Following the game against the Jets, we lined up Adelaide for what was our biggest game of the season up to that point.
Traveling away to Adelaide was always going to be difficult and to beat the Premiers 1-0 was an amazing achievement for the club.
The boys dug in, did well, and we have now given ourselves every opportunity to become inaugural Hyundai A-League champions.
We’ve been training twelve months to the day almost and the boys have worked their tails off to get to the position we are now.
The boys are really excited and really pumped up for the game, it’s every footballers dream and I’m sure the boys will aim up and produce and do everything they can to bring home the championship.
The support we have been receiving from the Central Coast public has been fantastic.
It’s been nothing short of massive, the town has gone bananas, it really is a football frenzy!
The boys are absolutely amazed by the support we’ve received in recent weeks, we know we’ve got the whole coast behind us, that’s what we set out to achieve and the only thing we need to do now is win the ‘frisbee’ and throw it around with our supporters at Terrigal Beach!
On behalf of myself and all of the players we want to thank every single person that has been to our games this season or has been a part of the Mariners in any way or shape.
We’ll do our best to get a result for all of you, we know that you’re behind us

I get $183 if the Mariners win in 90 mins. or $150 if they win in extra time. If they lose in 90 mins I get depression if they lose in extra time I have a heart attack.

I'm about to go to the tab now. I'll probably put on $20. I'll post at what odds when I get back. Life's great. Mariners are in the Grand Final and gambling is legal.

It think this game is split right down the middle. Could go anyway. Although, if I was a gambling man, which I am, I would bet on CCMFC to win in normal time, which I have.

Mingara is an aboriginal word meaning watering hole. They are thinking of changing the name to Gullajippi. Whichs translates to "place where old people go to play pokies for 18 hours staight". That's right. Not many people know but Pokies are native to Australia. They are a marsupial with the little pouch in the front where the money drops into and just like the species of Urban Koala that tries to get money off you using a bucket, the Pokies build their nests with 1 and 2 dollar coins.

I reckon the game will go to penalties and Danny will save every single shot and thus be awarded the JM Medal. But if it doesn't go to penalties, I think Meggsi will have a tough time avoiding winning the Medal, for a combination of his great performance on the day but also a little of the hype that surrounds him.

I hear what you're saying Mick. Normally violence isn't the answer but, if true, which I hope so completely it isn't, this deserves some serious headbashing. It's the only thing they would respend too. Ofcourse there can be NO violence. But I'm definetely tempted. I'm sure it's just a gee up, no one is that low. I know that, although we don't particularly like Blingers, if we had the final we would welcome them, drink with them and then sing shit about them. But we would never try and sabotage their enjoyment of the football or their full support of their team. It seems like such a Thugby League thing to do.

Because the public is fickle. Something needs to be a success before people begin to be interested. Hence all the TV ads giving ratings of the shows instead of just synopses. "Watched by 11 million in the US". That usually makes me back off but it gets most people more interested.

I'm not worried about the buzz dying off in the next couple of weeks. I'm more worried about the months of hiatus due to off season.
I actually think that this will be our best off season in terms of keeping the interest alive. Australia is in the World Cup. Huge football buzz. Meggsi will set the world alight. Huge Mariners buzz.
All the kids who love the Mariners will talk about them to all their teammates when the local club comp restarts. My nephew, 6, has got 2 of his mates to come along to matches. Hopefully when the local club comps are coinciding with the start of the A-league he and all the other players of all ages like him can get a lot of their team to come along.
I think the club should do a promotion along the lines of "registered players get a friend in for half price". I think most of us would of tried to convince someone who hasn't gone to a match to come along and to be able to get in half price should sway alot of people to come along when they may have perhaps been wavering. It would most probably ensure a big crowd which adds greatly to the appeal of going to the stadium to watch the match instead of watching it at home or not at all. If we could get 13k+ to the first pre-season cup match it would definetely kickstart the snowball effect for the new season. Furthermore, one could be able to take advantage of the promotion only if one prepurchases the tickets so it would lock heaps of people in incase of rain and the club can make announcements of 8000 pre sold tickets which gets even more people interested. The snow ball effect already in action.

Gotta love that Gumps has signed for another 3 years. By the time he retires he'll be a club legend. I remember the huge roar from the crowd when he came on in the second half after starting on the bench. He's the best player to have commited to the club because of his love of football on all levels. To have him pass on all his wisdom to the youth of the coast is worth whatever the club are paying him for the next three years of service.

Is there a match on tonight? Who's playing?? I might just whack on my blue trousers and yellow top and head to Gosford to see what the fuss is about. It looks like it'll be hot, I'd better take a scarf.

Doyalson's too far for me.
Lawrie is atleast the most affable man in the Universe.
The only manager who would come close would be Steve McMahon. Everyone just seems to get on with him. Haven't they made "Lovable Steve" the Mayor of Perth??
