We sure do have the best coach in the league - Fergie. The manager's alright too. What's his name? McKingsley or something. I hear he has a bangin' tie.

I love doing family things just not with my family.
I sometimes go to parks and try and join into the picnics of strangers. It rarely works, but when it does the chicken, lettuce and mayo sandwich tastes that much better for being earnt.

Johnny Warren would of been a Mariners fan, living at Benelong. That's why we should definetley have a minutes silence.

I reckon Neil Evans would have to be the worst player in the line-up, and Jeff Fatt, purple wiggle, being the pocket rocket with the skills to attract more fans than any a-league players would. A football wizard whos mastery of the ball excedes that of Pele or Maradonna. But unfortunately, because of his narcolepsy, he will never reach the heights he is capable of. Sad story really.

Bronze boy has been drinking the occasional Amsterdam Mariner, amongst MANY other drinks, since pre-season. He says they're good. A possible sponsor down the track. If they are trying to expand into Asia. Oh, and we won't be in asia next year. The A-league will not have any representatives in the 2006 ACL. So we will have to wait until 2007 to be crowned Asian champions. My source is a Fifa director talking on theworldgame sbs tv.

Having the match played on fox boosts the product awareness. People will tune into fox and watch even if they aren't 100% sold on mariners, but by watching the mariners play and getting to know players, etc. they will gain an interest in the teamand want to go to a match later on. This product awareness coupled with a free Getz is the best way to attract fans atm with fox holding the rights. It is better in the long term to get the people who are just tuning in to gain more of a support for the team than getting a few hundred that would of tuned in to come if the blackout technique was used. If the matches weren't played, more people, currently, would more likely have nothing to do with the mariners, sit at home in front of fox and watch NRL replays than would be inspired to head to the stadium Also, I hold nothing against fox for not blacking out. They paid the money for the rights to what could of been a disastrous league and committed to good broadcasting of it, which is great compared to NSL coverage, as BB said. In the future though when the A-league is getting more general television coverage, eg. news items, lots of people walk around the coast wearing jerseys and Australia are hosting the world cup there will no longer be need for more product awarness and blackouts will be the wise thing to do. Until then expect fair weather fans, but atleast at home on fox they are watching a rainy match between the Mariners and Perth rather than a replay of the 2001 NRL grand final.

"Tackle" "Get onto that" " Go for it" were the cries I could hear most at the leaguesy. Definite lack of intesity, as Ursus said. It would be hard to get inspired to give it your all against an opponent of KFC's standard. But that's exactly why we lost last time and I was worried in the first few minutes that the players had again turned up with an attitude of the three points all ready being won. But, then Heff scored. If he didn't NZ could of easily got some serious momentum against a Mariners side that wasn't there to give it their all. I'm a little dissapointed in the coaching staff for not being able to make sure that every game is played like it was a cup final. Especially seeing as when we look at the table and think about what a few loses would mean, every game is as important as a cup final.

The Mariners should keep their elbows to themselves. Other than that it was a good permformance from the fishy black and whites by the sounds of it.

Some people are hacks, I recognise this, but why wouldn't fans travel to Newcastle. It's so close and easy to get to. Auburn, Kevrenor, Blackadder and Dibo all travel the same distance for home matches. Yes, they are hardcore fans but it's surely not asking too much for other fans to just hop on the train for maximum of 1hr and support the team. We should be getting 4 thousand away before other teams stop letting us have that many tickets. If the league grows as it should, there will come a time when the other teams will have to limit the amount of away fans like they do overseas. When that time comes people will winge about not being able to get a ticket. 1 hr on the train, hacks!

He was thinking that he might go in to media first and then management. He has all the UEFA coaching certificates and I dearly hope tha the does manage the Magpies to win a trophy. Any trophy. The encouragement award??

Out for the season. Damn. Well it's only one player. Yet he would of filled in our biggest weakness. I think we should sign Zlatan Ibrohimivich.
How old is Macallister and what was his record like? We have a few strikers that I think will hit form, I don't think we need to bring in someone if they're not class. We don't need to scrape the bottom of the NSL barrel. I'm not saying Macallister is bad, I haven't seen him, just if he is no better than average we don't need him.

I'm so glad we have this issue. Imagine if Beltrame was our number 1. Everyone is dissapointed to not play first team football, but as omni said JC was signed to coach and Danny was going to come into the first squad later. Noone would of thought he would get the catbird seat so soon though, fully deserves it though, and that's what matters. When a player is playing with form they deserve to keep their spot. That's why Fergie is on the bench, because he impresses at training.

oh and Vukovic is great.
My hat goes off to Lawrie McKinna. I don't know how he's done it, but he has. Under salary cap and gotten arguably the best squad in the league. Watch out Jose Mourinho, I think the Mariners gaffer is vying for your title of best manager in the game.

The A-league is going to explode. I think there could be some OH&S issues with that. Overseas leagues and the inevitabilty of good players moving to them always slips my mind. Maybe if we win the world cup the situation might change.
