I think like most we are looking pretty good for V3. we have stayed in touch with recruitments this year, and should be right up there. As stated in another thread, the Boog's would be a great signing, even with theinjury concerns. He looked really hungry against Malaysia, I can see him as a threat to most teams in the A league, if he keeps that up! If the Heff returns, even better, but I think we wouldnt miss him as much as we did in V2. (and his goals)

It would be naive to say we've improved a lot from version 2 and therefore should make the top four or challenge for the title without considering the positions of other teams.
Of course we have improved our squad, and with injuries over for now and youngsters impressing, things are looking very bright indeed.
But Melbourne 'haven't gone backwards', teams like Newcastle and New Zealand will get to start the season with the right managers, Adelaide have young guns that could blow the league away, Sydney is still strong and have a seemingly better manager also. You would say Queensland haven't done a lot in the transfer market yet and Perth have a lot of unproven players, but there are still a wealth of tough teams that can beat us on their day.
We've improved, but we were off the pace before. That means only time will tell if we've just caught up, or moved ahead of the pack.

I agree It will be close, and I dont think we will have a run away first spot ths year.
But i just dont have the feeling I had at the start of V2, of being off the pace with signings etc. I think this year LM has closed that gap, and kept up with other teams. I think melbourne havent gone backwards, but they havent moved alot forwards either. Sydney and newcastle should start well, but I dont think its naive to say weve improved at all.

Let's also not forget that while we're wrapping up our squad by filling the U20 quota, some others are less complete and still spreading rumors of big-name international & socceroo signings. We're looking great at the moment unless anyone pulls a huge secret weapon between now and round 1.

I think Fred made a huge difference to Melbourne last year. With him not there, unless they have someone as good to fill the role, then they may well have gone backwards.

I didn't say it would be naive to say we've improved - we've improved massively I said it would be naive to say that our improvements mean we should win the title or even make top four. The point is that the league will be another notch more competitive and a couple of good signings doesn't automatically mean 6th>top 3. I actually reckon we will do extremely well. But I'm not assuming as much or taking for granted that we'll have success. It's gonna be tough!

i agree with brett, i think the standard of play will again be better in v3 so every team needs to lift their game - even Wellington look more promising than v2

Well Nick Carle seems desperate to get out of Scumcastle (and the whole A-League)! The day that happens I'll be a VERY happy man.
Melbourne have lost Fred, Adelaide had a shocker in the ACL (but who knows what that means), Sydney did well in the ACL but it seemed that they could only play one half of football, Wellington have a manager who seems the good (but as has been said a squad that mainly wouldn't get a run at other clubs)s, Queensland have a manager who's walking to work and Perth have work to do. It will be interesting to see what happens, clearly I'm optimistic.

Omni I agree, It will be a tough year, but at the moment, as it stands, I think we are looking the goods. Not saying we are a cert to take it out, but will be a force as in V1. In LM we trust!

Y-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-wn......another dig at Vuko, eh??....For me, it's a real shame that so many Mariners fans were (and still are) willing to give Kwasnik more chances, even though he's already had several. Yet, Vuko got barely 1 season before people decided he wasn't up to scratch. Also interesting to note that the moderators stepped in when they felt people were directing too much criticism at Kwasnik - even going so far as to remove a negative thread about him. Yet, even now when Vuko is out of the club and back at Marconi, the poor sod is still getting it in the neck, and there's not a peep from them. Double standards? No? Oh well, must just be me then.....

1 mention of Vuko's name in a thread is hardly the same as an entire thread bagging the shit out of kwasnik. And i didnt even mention his name in a negative way, just mentioned last years signings compared to this years. Crickey, dont have a heart attack.

The level of abuse that was directed at Kwasnik got to such proportions that moderation was necessary. Comments about Vuko does not even come close.

I also agree 100% With Vuko thou I strongly feel that we didn't see the best of him. He had other things going on in his head such as uni and it would have been a tough season for him. IMO (and please don't start another Kwasnik thread) Kwassy had a very good year but certainly has room for improvement in his game. This seasons signings are much more impressive and really focused on strengthening the areas we need them in. Another signing is only around the corner too.....it's all looking good for 2007-08.
