Should the Mariners go for a big name striker, let's hope it is someone who is going to be prepared to pass on some of their knowledge about striking to Nik and whoever else is in the forward lineup. Also I think the Mariners have better move quick to sign Jedinak. And Jedinak's form with us has probably been noticed.... 1) My ideal striker for the Mariners would be Teddy Sherinham. He has shown he can score goals at the highest level and would find 21+ games in Australia more comfortable than being a sub in the EPL. He also seems to have that work ethic that we need. As well I have never heard of any scandal in off field activities. I think he would fit into the community very well and would be a great role model not only for our strikers but the whole squad. Would he drop down and play in the premiership? I hope not. The lifestyle on the Central Coast has got to be much better than the all the colours of grey skies available to the Poms. 2) Regarding Mile Jedinak his father sat in front of us when he played his last game for us and he was very upbeat that Mile would be signing a multi year contract with the Mariners. hope so he certainly put some bite into the midfield whenever he played both on the floor and aerially as well

I'm not sure if Teddy is a 90 minute a game striker at 41. He certainly has proven records and even at his age can score goals and do well in 1 of europes best leagues but IMO he's not the striker we need at this point, we want someone who has pace and can scare defenders. If it were me I wouldn't pay a 41 year old a marquee salary.

Andy Cole would be superb still young enough to know the effort is still there and can bang em in.

Bugger, one less! I rated the lad...
"Sydney teen joins Premier League club January 30, 2007 - 6:24AM
Promising Sydney teenager Oliver Bozanic has signed with English Premier League side Reading.
The 18-year-old, who played with Central Coast Mariners in the A-League pre-season, signed a contract with English club until 2009.
The left-sided midfielder captained the Australian under-17 side last year and was recently named in the 2008 Olympic training squad.
He trialled with Reading more than two years ago and was delighted to have finally secured a contract.
"I'm very excited, I can't wait to get started," Bozanic told the club's web site.
"It's been a long time coming and I can't wait to get out there and get playing.
"I've been back and forth a few times, I've finally got it sorted and I'm looking forward to getting started."
The club's Director of Football Nick Hammond said: "We are very pleased to have signed Oliver.
"He is a really gifted left-foot player, an Australian youth international and he's already spent a large amount of time with us in the last couple of years.
"We've been trying hard to identify really talented players, both on our door step and abroad, because there are good opportunities and value for money."
Bozanic was signed by Mariners coach Lawrie McKinna in July on a short-term contract to boost injury-burdened side in the pre-season but his stint did not extend into the regular season.
He is the son of former Socceroo defender Vic Bozanic, who made four appearances and netted two goals for Australia at the 1980 OFC Nations Cup in New Caledonia.
Bozanic Jr was a cornerstone member of the Blacktown City Demons' charge towards the 2004/05 NSW Premier League finals series.
Newly-promoted Reading has exceeded expectations this season and has practically secured its survival in the Premier League, currently sitting seventh."

Interesting article in today's Football Fever.
The Mariners are after Rodriguez hard. Mariners are offerring $120000 and newcastle's latest bid is $80000. Newcastle are trying to find ways of keeping him and staying under the salary cap.
The Mariners are also after Petrovski. Saso is weighing up whether to go to Japan with Littbarksi or go to the mariners but will not be staying at Sydney.
If these two fail the Mariners will look overseas.

These would definitely be handy signings and along with (fingers crossed) a fit Mrdja we will have 3 very strong strikers! I have not heard of any defenders we have been linked to? i think we need to keep an eye out for a replacement for Boags and Tomasevic.

i hope sas doesnt sign.....seems like a wanker only a wanker if he is allowed to be - people like lawrie, fergie and viddy will pull him into line my concern was the main reason for him wanting to sign for the mariners, according to today's story, "so i can play against sydney" lawrie will then have some egos to manage in his strikers we need players who will bleed for the mariners shirt like browny, wilko and kwassy as examples

It would be interesting to know what he has been offered? or demanding? What is he in at Sydney?

Sasho himself seems like a real wanker, but if he can put the ball in the back of the net, GET HIM !!.
As far as Rodriguez goes, don't sign him. Although he is a wonderful player with attacking flair and can score goals, I don't think it would be right to steal off another club at this early stage of the A-League. Look at what he has done for the Newcatle region. His combination with Nicky Carle has got them into the semi's and possibly further. From what I can gather he has got the Jets more media coverage. If he was to leave Newcastle, I believe the team will suffer and the crowds will drop. Some will say that's great. But, you have to look after the WHOLE league before worrying about yourself. I feel that we should be going o/s to try and find our own Rodriguez. Melbourne is another example. Dreadful last season, they went out and bought 3 brazilians. Although 1 has gone home the remaining 2 have had a big influence down there and they were the premiers by a country mile.
Also, congrats to Oliver for his contract at Reading.
In today's football fever it also mentioned the Megsi was signed by Nurenburg for a further 2 years and that Heff may come back to the Mariners. (Sorry if that had already been posted).

I feel that we should be going o/s to try and find our own Rodriguez. Their crowds won't drop if we sign their no 1 bench player. It will make the derbys even bigger and we'll have better crowds because we'll win games. Looking at the whole league we are the team that needs a boost to crowd numbers more than the Jets so I don't see what you're worried about. And to call the singing of a player who is off contract stealing I think you've missed the whole point of the bosman ruling. He is no more a Jets player than a Syracuse Salty Seadogs squadman. I think moves like this can only be good for the league. The league is new, we have quite a shallow history. What the league needs is characters and stories for the media time. Channel 7 doesn't want to report straight results. They want stories and characters. Dwight Yorke was a character. Kosmina and Muscat are characters. Terry McFlynn isn't a charater. If McFlynn gets a hattrick Channel 7 will report it for 2.1 seconds. If Rodrigues scores a hattrick for his new club They give the story 8 seconds. IF Rodrigues scores the winning goal in a derby against his old club and then taunts the Jets fans then we have an interesting league by anyone's standards. He is a quality player and goal scorer the media are wanting him to be a character to latch onto this move creates controversy and an interesting news piece.

I imagined that sort of figure. If this is the case and if what has been reported is true, Sasho would be around the $100k, Rodriguez offered $120k and Mrdja on something like $100k that has used up a huge chunk of the salary cap! I would be very suprised if we were to get both of those players, and if we do, it would look good for Matty Simon as a cheap back up striker?

Sasho would not fit McKinna's "no dickhead" policy

Penrith9103 - I understand with what you're getting at about not 'stealing' (if such a word applies anymore in professional football anymore) a player from an A-League club this early in the game, but quite frankly..... it's the Jets. F*ck the Jets. I care not for how they might feel about it - if Milton isn't too much of a dick (seems like a decent kinda guy) and can keep banging in goals like the one he got last week against Sydney, than I'm all for it. Would make the derby that much more interesting as well - and would not that be a bit of a boom for the league as well?? Imagine the media coverage up there and down here.
As for Sasho.......... I dunno - he's a good enough striker (his New Years Day goal anyone??) but I'm none too sure if his dickheaded-ness (and he seems like a giant one) can be bought under control. I'd like to think it could be, because with 3 fit strikers (c'mon Mrdja, we've put a lot into you) and Matty Simon as a good young backup, we'd go fair alright I might think......... and even if we only get one of them (I'd prefer Milton), then that's where we look overseas for a good young kid from Rio or somewhere in Africa on the cheap.
Speaking of Africans - whatever became of that really good young guy who was playing for Gladesville Spirit in their pre-season friendly against us?? Anything become of him??
