Not sure that he has been offered a new deal yet...Lawrie may be waiting to see what else is doing in that position?
Even though it was often in difficult circumstances, Macca had plenty of opportunities this season yet didn't really do that much imo.

I agree - Macca had plenty of opportunities to stamp his authority in the middle of the park yet never really delivered IMO. Sure he had a few good games but I would prefer Gumps, Tommy or Owens (should be sign) in that role. I think both parties have been in negotiations but nothing agreed yet, I guess it comes down to a) what Macca is asking for, and b) what other options are out there for Lawrie?

Gettin goff topic arent we? Thought this thread was about Owens. I bet Macca appreciates teh vote of confidence in him after all the runs he did last year, when Hutch was playing like a girl, Tommy was a crock, Spenny was looking for Danny or Vidmar ALLTHEF**INTIME, and Gumps was coming back from injury. Macca was one of the few attacking mids who had the guts to stand up to Muscat, takeon difficult defenders and still had a football brain in his head,.

I thought Macca did alright this season. Sure i think he needs to step up another notch, but he was a good few notches higher than he was last season. Hopefully this season he will step up again. He was unlucky not to finish the campaign with a few goals under his belt in my opinion.

Macca was one of the few attacking mids who had the guts to stand up to Muscat, takeon difficult defenders and still had a football brain in his head,. slightly off the topic yes but I didn't start it I agree that Macca came in when others were injured, most notable was Gumps and Tommy, but IMO when he came into those games didn't really stamp his authority in the middle of the park and claim that role as his own should all other players be fit. Yes he stood up to Muscat in 1 game and contributed to his sending off, and yes he got stuck in when required most of the time. However, again IMO he had a few very poor games when the team needed him to stand up, as taking control in the middle of the park is probably the most important area of the pitch to do so. Macca IMO would be a good member to have in the squad, but I wouldn't start him if everyone else was fit. I guess talking about Macca in this thread is relevant really as he and Owens can play in similar positions and will be fighting for perhaps the same spot

Maaca v Owens would be no contest IMHO. Macca drifts out of games and has been mentioned, isnt v dominant really.

Cost Sydney a 2nd chance this year, and hence possibly the ACL. Meaning it would be quite a reasonable price to pay. I would think if Sydney breached it again there would be greater number of points deducted. . sorry jesus i disagree, definitely not enough of a penalty . they did breach it more than once as they already had a one point suspended . it still allowed them to make the finals and another 3 points would not have put them in the top two - that is, it cost them nothing . would melbourne have copped the same penalty if they were in breach - i would have thought not . back on topic - owens sounds ok, but this reported 'lack of hunger' could be an issue even if it is just a wish to play daddy

. back on topic - owens sounds ok, but this reported 'lack of hunger' could be an issue even if it is just a wish to play daddy Which does raise the question......Is Owens going to be looking for another club at ALL this coming season? Maybe he is actually fed up with the game at the moment and wants a break, and to enjoy his time with a new baby and look after his mother. He may well have been earning enough $$ previously, to enable him to do this. Does anyone know if he actually has entered any sort of negotiations with any club (not just CCM), or whether this rather large thread is just a large amount of wishful thinking, hope, and speculation?

. mick that is what i would have thought - its all very political this football thing . but we can't afford to have someone here taking a decent share of the cap (and spot in the squad) waiting for the hunger to return . if it all happens i hope he contributes to us holding the dunny seat next year

or perhaps he had some kind of clause in his contract to leave for personal reasons? and using the excuse of he's fed up with the game was a bad choice of words?
Lots of possibilities out there?

How did he word it? I thought he basically said being a dad was more important to him. Which doesnt rule out football, but is a reason to move from adelaide.
I would guess Adelaide made a clause saying he can play for a team in this state, but not other.

Now that Jedinak has signed does that mean the chances of Owens signing is less?

- i wouldnt think so - jedi would be a straight swap for spencer - we still have wayno to replace, plus there is extra squad spaces this year - i would imagine that owens would than complete a midfield
