with the whole bay clapping along (slow) off topic I'm surprised that we haven't used the angels "i never want to see your face again" in some form. would work great when someone got carded from the opposition. or as something when the opposition scores.

YES!!!! BRILLIANT!!! Someone gets red carded...... "Are we ever gonna see your face again??" 'NO WAY, GET F*CKED, F*CK OFF' Love it!!!! ;D ;D ;D first line sung on the megaphone bay jumps in with the rest of the unofficial bit of the song. It's a quick way to tell aussies overseas too, put it on and see who joins in with the second line.

For away games I like "Better Be Home Soon" or "I Still Call the Coast Home" - just replacing "Australia" with "the Coast". agree on those two, there probably my favourite along with "lean on me", "Am i gunna see your face again " or even "wonderwall" by oasis

This may be fairly biased....by my suggestion is... I cant smile without you - Barry Manilow www.youtube.com/watch?v=hscdoOmpGE0You know I can't smile without you I can't smile without you I can't laugh and I can't sing I'm finding it hard to do anything You see I feel sad when you're sad I feel glad when you're glad If you only knew what I'm going through I just can't smile without you You came along just like a song And brightened my day Who would have believed that you were part of a dream Now it all seems light years away And now you know I can't smile without you I can't smile without you I can't laugh and I can't sing I'm finding it hard to do anything You see I feel sad when you're sad I feel glad when you're glad If you only knew what I'm going through I just can't smile Now some people say happiness takes so very long to find Well, I'm finding it hard leaving your love behind me And you see I can't smile without you I can't smile without you I can't laugh and I can't sing I'm finding it hard to do anything You see I feel glad when you're glad I feel sad when you're sad If you only knew what I'm going through I just can't smile without you

meh... the good thing about lean on me is that i can't think of another club that does it. i wouldn't suggest YNWA, bubbles, delilah or blue moon for the same reason.

agree with ursus, i will cringe at any song that has the words changed. thats where you get the pathetic songs that we had earlier in the year.

Yep he made some valid points: - decide what you want (everyone joining in) - pick something and don't mess with the words (a way of getting everyone to join in) I still think relevant would be good (eg something about yellow or make the subject "Mariners" without re-writing verses), but if all this brainstorming can't come up with something I think he's right - something more general about loyalty or support, keeping the original lyrics.

yea, sing the songs and see what happens. the crowd might like singing better be home soon even if it is the complete opposite to what the fans should be singing.

nothing wrong with the baggies, but 'borrowing' others' songs seems a bit wrong.

Possessing a musical background and a love of football atmosphere has had this topic in the back of my mind ever since the club (or was it Sea FM?) attempted to get this idea rolling last year. I agree with a lot of what has been said on this thread. For a song to be perfect, it must have a few key features: 1. easy to recognise by the melody (popular or well-known) 2. Relevant to mariners fans, or, lyrics able to be substituted with something simple enough to remember without needing to hold choir rehearsals for 15,000 3. Must have a climax or chorus that is particularly iconic (the kind of thing that will make even first-time fans join in loudly) Point 3 is essential for it to work. Points 1&2 will make it work more easilly. Without point 3 it will fail. Having read read Floss' criteria I would like to nominate (Mariners) Playing With Flair with thanks to Bon Jovi (MARINERS) PLAYIN’ WITH FLAIR by Bon Jovi (short version) Mariners You’ve got to show them what you’ve got We’re gonna reach the final and win the lot We’re here with you and that’s a lot Mariners - give it a shot Chorus: Whooah We’re goin’ there Mariners Playin’ with flair We’re with you, we’ll make it - I swear Mariners Playin’ with flair Whooah You’ve got to show them what you’ve got We’re gonna reach the final and win the lot We’re here with you and that’s a lot Mariners - give it a shot Chorus Whooah We’re going there Mariners Playin’ with flair We’re with you, we’ll make it - I swear Mariners Playin’ with flair We’re goin’ there OOOOH We’re gonna be there when you take the shot We live for the final that’s all that we want Chorus: Whooah We’re goin’ there Mariners Playin’ with flair We’re with you, we’ll make it - I swear Mariners Playin’ with flair Whooah We’re going there Mariners Playin’ with flair We’re with you, we’ll make it - I swear Mariners Playin' with flair Mariners !! Mariners !!

The best part of that would be everyone singing the synthesised 'wub wub wub' at the intro of the song.
The rest...I think I am now definitely leaning with those who say the lyrics of a song shouldn't be changed! short chants are different of course.

I agree, we shouldnt be changing lyrics, it is too tacky! Personally I cant stand jon bon jovi, and wouldnt like to see our great club in any way liked to this shallow walking haircut! Bring on Barry Manilow! "I cant smile without you. It's funny, everyone knows it, it will sound awesome when sung together, and people not signing (ie, the other three sides of the stadium), will understand it, and be able to join in!) Long term, its a winner!

It's a pity there are a few reasons why Yellow probably wouldn't work, because the first verse (IMO) is so close to perfect without any major changes:
Look at the stars, Look how they shine for you, And everything you do, Yeah they were all yellow,
We came along And sung a song for you And all the things you do And we were all yellow
