i have been thinking about this for a while, fools rush in should be a song the fans should sing. just finished watching the PNE game and the atmosphere was electric. the song was played over the pa before the game and at half-time. i know this is ripping off but i think it could work at the mariners, it will take a while to catch on, but i think it would be great.

yeah they do the same at barcelona. and everyone claps along and then all go "barce, barce". really effective. apparently at porto the dude on the pa starts the chants

I think he meant "the FFA control what is played and said over the stadium PA system".

I think he meant "the FFA control what is played and said over the stadium PA system". you reckon? do you think we couldn't organise a team song to be played? anyhoo, lyrics: Wise Men say only fools rush in but I cant help falling in love with you Shall I stay would it be a sin if I can't help falling in love with you... Like a river flows, surely to the sea Darlin so it goes, somethings are meant to be.. Take my hand, take my whole life too for I can't help fallin in love with you... Like a river flows, surely to the sea Darlin so it goes, somethings are meant to be.. Take my hand take my whole life too for I cant help falling in love with you for I cant help falling in love with...... you. [then, maybe we do this] mariners *clap* *clap* *clap* mariners *clap* *clap* *clap* [snap straight into jumping] shalalalalalala hey mariners... EDIT: we'd probably have to sing it a few times to get it going, and it'd want to stand on its own 2 feet in the home end before we would be able to ask for it to be played over the PA with any hope of success. however, we could certainly get it played in the kendall. and in any pub we go to on away trips - the magic of jukeboxes!

We can sure as hell try..... maybe get the whole Anfield (*rolls eyes*) thing going, where the PA fades out as the crowd takes over. We sorely need a melodic song that goes for a few minutes to be sung every week - 20 second chants are great and all, but one of the best things about football support is the songs, and just how damn good they can sound when everyone gets involved. *edit* "Like a river flows, surely to the sea". How coastie.

I think he meant "the FFA control what is played and said over the stadium PA system". the FFA don't the mariners control their match day operations under some FFA guidelines match day entertainment is up to each individual club

Other options for songs would be
Coldplay - Yellow A few people have had this idea so credit wont be allocated, but its pretty obvious why this would be good. Might be hard to sing.
Crowded House - Better Be Home Soon This is one I thought of...when I hear "I know I'm riiiiiiiiiiiiight for the first time in my life" that's how I feel about the Mariners.
I agree though that we should have a song! We've said before that we can't 'force' tradition but its also true that a song isn't going to emerge from nowhere and sing itself.
In an ideal world I would like to see us obtain a song in the same way that couples have 'their song'. It should be symbolic, a reminder of glories past. It might be played after a great victory or on an away trip or something similar and suddenly mean something to us.
If it comes down to ideas on the forum and we pick one from a poll, I wouldn't be thrilled, but so be it.
Whatever the case we have to identify a song, stick with it and make it work.

I think over time a song will attach itself to the Mariners. I'm not sure that you can just pick one and say, yep, that's our song.
As Brett said, couples have "their song" and it usually comes about from being somewhere on a certain day, time etc and reminds them of that day. The same goes with a mariners song.
It will happen eventually, not something that should be forced, I don't think.

Dear god........ hehe, it was worse in the nsl newcastle united days where they had dancers who: - worse tight leotards despite not have the physique for it - danced out of time and were terrible anything would be an inprovement from those days, or even the breakers days when jason bennet (breakers player) was knocked out during a pre-game softball demonstration, where a pitch went astray, to take no part in the game kossie was the coach at the time and didn't he spit chips - rightly so

Crowded House - Better Be Home Soon This is one I thought of...when I hear "I know I'm riiiiiiiiiiiiight for the first time in my life" that's how I feel about the Mariners. that's a belter idea. coincidentally, i had that in my head for a coupla days last week. that line would be such a ripper too - it'd carry like anything and get the whole stadium into it. it'd be a scarves up or arms on shoulders, whole stadium stands kinda one. Better Be Home Soon (Neil Finn)
Somewhere deep inside Something's got a hold on you And it's pushing me aside See it stretch on forever
I know I'm right For the first time in my life That's why I tell you You'd better be home soon
Stripping back the coats Of lies and deception Back to nothingness Like a week in the desert
I know I'm right For the first time in my life That's why I tell you You'd better be home soon
So don't say no, don't say nothing's wrong Cos when you get back home maybe I'll be gone
It would cause me pain If we were to end it But I could start again You can depend on it
I know I'm right For the first time in my life That's why I tell you You'd better be home soon That's why I tell you You'd better be home soon I agree though that we should have a song! Whatever the case we have to identify a song, stick with it and make it work. i reckon we could try a few things, and whatever works best will simply come forward by osmosis. the whole not forcing thing is dead right, but nothing should stop us trying a few things. even if it starts up on the bus to an away match - driver puts on a CD and the bus gets into it - you then get 50 people who know the drill, multiply by the number of buses. roll on, roll on...

My post was in regards to whats played over the PA not what the fan's sing. (though as mick said its up to the clubs but under a FFA guideline) no probs, that's how i thought it was. first off though, we just need to sing. let the PA issues be sorted down the track. i'd like to see us not need it - the karaoke look isn't as special as just having thousands of people singing as one, unaccompanied.
