yes mate it was.... Very dissapointed. Showed moments of realy good stuff, but when it counted we just were not on the pitch. I could not see from bay 16 if our second should have been disallowed or not, but i could see some pretty average defense tonight... I swear Danny was watching the boats on the bay, I was so confused at the third goal Im really still not sure what happened... It is only pres season, but Ouch goes the pride a bit. Good to see the referee was keeping it consitant at least, with another shocking display. Surely something should be done to improve them, woefull... Was it just me or did that game go forever! "Moments of really good stuff"?? I must have nodded off during those moments. Have we ever beaten a side with 10 men, not to mention 9.

I thought Up front we were looking OK, midfeld was confused and kept playing the wrong options, gave away way too much possesion again, and well then there was the backline, although I thought Boog's had some good moments.
Danny was really out of character, looked nearly lazy, but his kicking was better?
Lets hope we learn the big pre season lessons...

you are right, Ive had a few brews and didnt want to sound too negative.
Letting those goals in against 10/9 players was a disgrace reagrdless of what happened before hand, which wasnt alot

i just hope the FFA act on the queensland players. intimidation of the ref in the highest order. when have they been such a dirty dirty team? never knew seo was dirty diving angry little shit. had respect for that team, not anymore.
as for the game, the players just need to learn how to retain the ball. when they were one man down, even two men down, all they had to do was retain possession and the rest would have sorted itself out. oh well, hopefully they will learn from this. but something tells me they wont, consdiering they havnt before.

I think the problem going a man or two men up is that we then overthink things in attack. We should keep attacking the same way, with our numerical advantage meaning that a goal is generally more likely, and more importantly, that Queensland will just give us the ball back after our attack is over. Instead we think that being a man or two up meant that we should now be able to pass our way around Queensland, who simply shifted their compact formation across the field to meet our attacks. We NEVER switch the ball across the back during a normal game, but then once Queensland sat back with 10 or 9 men, that's all we seemed to do! Totally agree with marinerbhoy that Qld looked to have a pretty bad attitude. And with uncleyellow that the refereeing was pretty poor despite sending two of them off. They can face suspensions and be screwed for the A-League now though But all this takes away from some positives, I reckon Matty Simon will prove to be a very useful A-League squad player and did not look at all out of his depth, and his movement with Kwassy in the first half was great and quite different from the Nik/Sash combo! Jedi consistently awesome as always. Still confident for August 24.

I don't give a flying rats arse if it was the 3rd/4th playoff......... to see that disheartening shit that was the last 20 minutes (particularly Wilko and Boogard slumping to the ground after the 3rd) was like watching the Socceroo's against Iraq all over again. I consider being a supporter of this club and watching the team play every week a privilege - but if that's how we're going to be repaid, f*ck that. Please don't ever do that to me again guys, seriously. As I discussed with Auburn on the way out - here's hoping that was just some serious cobweb removal work, and that come August 24th against Sydney all is well. If not, I'd be very very worried. P.S. Sack Kwasnik.

I honestly don't think there's much to be concerned about, lads. Admittedly, as I begin to post regularly on these forums, I do have a bad habit of being overly optimistic. Yesterday, though, I don't think we have much to complain about.
Pre-season is still exactly what its name suggests. The boys didn't exactly look like the squad we'll be watching in a week or two for the A-League. The line-up for starters was, at best, Claudio Ranieri inspired (that is, very tinkered and experimental). Personally, if we're vying for third in a pre-season cup: we've already missed out on where we should be; competing for first. No matter how much one can complain about a numerical advantage--a tinkered team will take time to settle.
With over-the-top moaning from the Roar players at the ref, two sendings off and a lack of stability, the boys were just not going to get up and score. Why? I wasn't out on the field, I don't know... but I'd much rather them iron out that kink pre-season rather than face it all season long: after doing well in a pre-season cup.
Remember too, Qld are a bogey team for us.
I think after the performance, the lads will know the need to push forward and convert is more important than ever. Matty Simon's goal was class and I reckon, once the whole squad has their head screwed on, he'll be getting the service to make alot more like it.
We're still without Hutch, Tom and this Petrovski thing that we signed so I do think we're still in good stead for the season to come... despite the doom some are predicting.
Bring on Budget FC I say, after losing to QLD: someone has to pay.

Whilst that was utter shite - we have serious problems at the back and this is now 4 home games running that we have been very poor (except the 1st 10 minutes against NZ) I would also be very worried if I was a Roar fan.
Tiatto was made to look a complete fool by a guy who is learning (Simon) and Moore will get done for pace by everyone. His assault on Simon early on was a disgrace.
Apart from Mile, Simon,Boogs and Kwassie, no one else looked like they could be bothered too much and all we can do is look forward to 24th.

Disappointing.
1) Midfield was changed around and it did not work.
Not enough: i) Movement off the ball. ii) touch and go. iii) one, twos. iv) one touch passing. v) ball on the ground. vi) getting into free space. vii) pace.
Too much: i) ball in the air. ii) flat footedness. iii) atricious passing.
I have noticed that if any team "gets into our faces" we are stuffed. Far to much time taken dwelling on the ball looking for options that are not being created. I hope with Kwassy and Tommy (and Owens) back on the right and left we will see more pace, understanding and inventiveness, especially if they learn to run off balls held up by Sasho. What happened to the quick on the ground movement of V1. I fear SP may be a bigger loss than people realise.
The defence looks ok until we are back on the 18 yard line then everyone seems to ball watch and hang back. There has been a lack of closing down when the attack gets close. Far too much room allowed. They seem scared to make the tackles that are needed.
Two weeks to sort it out.
At least this year we should not start over confident.

Well, what can I add other than that I wish I had stayed at home, put my feet up and let the old body recover from the race!
A few positives, like Simon, but generally very lacklustre. What concerns me most is the timing of these two performances, with the regular season just around the corner. Losing games becomes a habit......a very bad habit. Now, rather than looking forward to the Bling game with momentum behind us, we're going into it trying to rediscover the earlier pre-season form.

Poor performance sure and Lawrie and the boys will be well aware of that.
I thought we were the better team in the first half but as per usual lost belief that we were going to score after gaining a man advantage.
Yet again like in Orange, Kwas gets put up front with the man monster Ognenovski marking him........the Mariners defence and midfield boots a long high ball up to Kwas to challenge for......Ognenovski will win it everytime keep it on the deck!
We will get exposed down the right this year it's definitely my main concern.

It appears that has returned ... I bloody hope not for long. Boogs has played well, but then he'll go and back off when he should go in. I think Tobin and Vidmar need to work on the backline very hard over the next two weeks. I though Browny was magic in an advanced role down the left on Sunday and we lost a lot when he came off. BTW - Match report link and stats updated for Pre Season Cup on www.marinators.net

for two weeks now we have been caught ball watching in the box and i hate to say it but wilko has been the major culprit I think Lawrie's ominous "Nobody is guaranteed a starting spot." was directed squarely at Wilko AND Danny.
