Moore to make debut in Gosford
SOCCEROO Craig Moore will make his debut in Queensland Roar colours on Sunday when Frank Farina's men take on the Central Coast Mariners in Gosford.
Moore came through a full half of football against local side Brisbane City earlier in the week and Farina confirmed this morning that his star defender will take to the field this weekend after settling in well at the club.
"Yes Craig will start; he definitely won't play the 90 minutes but he'll start for sure," Farina said.
"I've known Craig for a number of years now - six long years with the national team - so I know his character and what makes him tick.
"Craig settles in pretty much anywhere and a testament to that was Glasgow Rangers - they made him captain of one of the biggest clubs in Europe and I think that says loads for him as a person.
"He needs to play now and settle into the team structure but that's going to take a bit of time."
Farina made only a minor change to the squad for the trip south with Josh McCloughan making way for Moore. Andrew Packer is still ruled out and is unlikely to be fit before round two of the season proper and midfield dynamo Massimo Murdocca will not be risked as he recovers from a slight knee injury.
The Roar boss says the tinkering is part and parcel of pre-season and helps to prepare everyone for the season ahead.
"It's the same as we've done with all of the games. This season will be a squad thing; it's not about 11 or 13 individuals.
"We've got to make sure that everyone understands what's required and I think we're on the right track. I'm pretty happy with where the team is at the moment," he said.
Both teams will be looking for a result this Sunday but history suggests that another stalemate could be on the cards.
In six Hyundai A-League matches between the two sides five have ended in draws.

Mariners debut for Owens - The World Game
Greg Owens will make his Central Coast Mariners debut on Sunday against the Queensland Roar.
Owens, who joined the Mariners from Adelaide United, has recovered from 'minor back surgery' and is in the Mariners' squad for the Pre-Season Cup clash against the Roar at Bluetongue Central Coast Stadium.
Owens replaces John Hutchinson in the squad, with Hutchinson missing out due to an ankle injury as the Mariners look to clinch third place in the pre-season tournament.
"We're just disappointed, I think the way we've played during the Pre-Season Cup we've done well enough to be in the final," said Mariners' football manager Lawrie McKinna.
"But, we want to win this weekend's game and get some confidence leading into the Sydney FC game on the 24th of August."
"We've only lost one game throughout our entire pre-season and hopefully we can keep that record after Sunday's game."

I know they are called queensland droar but i just have this feeling that after last week we may actually win. Sometimes the best thing for a team can be to be show exactly what not to do. They can learn from their mistakes and their training this week would have reflected that surely. Mariners 2 - Roar 1 Goals to Nick M and Greg Owens. I dont know why i think owens will score just do. Call it a stab in the dark.

Young Aubinho is well again, so he and I will be at the game.
See you all from 3pm so we can ALL be in the group photo (note; we'll have to give Kendall's a miss due to the age restrictions).

Plenty of room in CCLC's new "Mariners" under age lounge area! Unless you aren't responsible enough an adult AM! Marconi_girl and I will be up there on the train after my wife's birthday brunch.

Will be running the City To Surf in the morning, but hoping to get up to Gosford afterwards. Will be close - tipping the Mariners to nick it by 1. Don't care who scores.

The crowd will be down due to the fact that the game coincides with the local First grade fixtures and NSW Youth League catch up games, as well as other games that might still be running

Its a bit of a nothing game, the Roar are playing it down and will experiment with players, also will be interesting to see how Moores fitness is and if he makes the plane in time...LOL. Should be a good hit out no doubt.

yes mate it was....
Very dissapointed. Showed moments of realy good stuff, but when it counted we just were not on the pitch.
I could not see from bay 16 if our second should have been disallowed or not, but i could see some pretty average defense tonight... I swear Danny was watching the boats on the bay, I was so confused at the third goal Im really still not sure what happened... It is only pres season, but Ouch goes the pride a bit.
Good to see the referee was keeping it consitant at least, with another shocking display. Surely something should be done to improve them, woefull... Was it just me or did that game go forever!
