First name on the team sheet would be M.Trott for me. Had a great season for lightning, decent pre season (correct me if I'm wrong but didn't he only let one goal in all pre season including the trial games?) and Danny's form is woeful based on the last 2 games.

(correct me if I'm wrong but didn't he only let one goal in all pre season including the trial games?) stand corrected absolute shocker in orange His 1 shocker in Orange compares nothing to Danny's rubbish over the last 2 weeks IMO. I would still start Danny, give him a chance to show its just been a bad few weeks, and if he keeps his current form, id slot Trott in straight away.

Trott may get his chance as Danny Vukovic and Porter will only arrive back from Olyroo duty on the day before the game.

Have to say I don't think Danny has played that badly in pre-season. His kicking has been a bit dodgy, granted, but many of the goals conceded have been due to sloppy defending - in particular not clearing *?!ing crosses/corners when they come in. Therefore, if he's available, I'd keep him as first choice for the moment.
Whoever plays, I hope they do the job. I know nearly all Mariners fans who live on the coast treat the derbies against Newcastle as the biggest games. But for me, as someone who lives and works in Sydney, the matches against Bling are the ones I care about most.
Would love to walk out of Moore Park after the game and not see rows of Bling FC fans with smug grins on their chops!

Trotty would make more errors than Danny IMO

The Daily Telegraph today had Lawrie saying that the boys will be back in time for the game, and he is hopping to have Danny start.

Sorry Mick and DJ, but did you see Trott's game at Canberra? Grunta has a point - Trott was solid as the Great Wall of China and kept every bloody rabbit out in that game! Compared to the game he had vs. Adelaide(? the last game of last season for the Mariners) it was like watching two different Trotts. JC has probably done some serious training with the lad. AND, Trott's distribution was way better than anything I have seen of Danny's of late. I am going to start giving Trott a little more credibility, and be prepared also to knock our star goalie when he stuffs up. Danny let in two bloody sitters that rumbled along the ground last week and he was almost watching them tumble past.

I'd like, or hope to think that Lawrie will be getting his hands on the footage of the Olyroo's game to evaluate Danny's performance and base his decision from there. Albeit "Trotty/Dippa" will be facing an inferior opposition in the New Caladonian's Senior Team (then again there might be some nippy islander w/ a decent foot?), compared to an U/23 Iraq for Danny, a quality save is based on the quality of the strike and if that were the selection criteria then I'd also be picking Matt in between the sticks for the first game V Syd FC. If Trotty is given Rnd1 V The Bling, then I'd b doubley happy! First because it would reward his recent form and Second because I''ve been working on a new chant for him, his old: Hot 2 Trott Hot 2 Trott Hot 2 Trott, is.... well pretty lame/simple and I think a bit short. I've written him his own new chant which is based on his 'team' nickname, "Dip or Dippa" ( for him having kept his original job/ x2 paypackets= Double Dipp'n, when 1st signed by CCM) that Wilko recently wrote about in the 'Captains Corner' of the CC Express. I think it would even add to his confidence when making saves in front of US in Bay16 ! Sung to the Oompa-Loompa song from Willy Wonka & the Choc Factory: Dip-parr Dip-parr Dip-pardee Doooooo aLightning Goal Keeper Toooo clever forrrr youuuu. Dip-parr Dip-parr Dip-pardee Doooooo Born on the Coast AND he's Yellow and Bluuuu.

No doubt Trotty has improved, and I've been watching him at the Lightning for a while so can see he has some ability, just because you saw him play 1 game in Canberra Pete against a weak Sydney team doesn't mean he deserves a start. However, when he has a shocker he has a shocker and can easily make a mistake that could cost us a game. When Danny makes a mistake it usually doesn't lead to a goal conceeded.
I think anyone who has seen Trotty play on a fairly regular basis knows that when he has confidence he can keep a team in the game, but he is/was inconsistent. A keeper matures with age and I can see Trotty getting better, but he isn't up there yet IMO.
It's all about opinions and mine is I would prefer Danny to play if he's not too tired against Sydney.............he is our best keeper and I would play him every game if I had the opportunity.

He watched them both crawl over the line. From a keepers point of view, even if he attempted to get down for them, there would be less criticism.
