That stat of 30% total posession is so tragically wrong, i hope the guy who wrote it just lost a bet to a victory supporter... Lets do some simple math to see how ridiculous that actually is: Excluding injury time for the purpouse of simplification, Total Game Time : 90 So, 30% of 90 is 27 minutes, so a-league.com is claiming we only had the ball for 27 minutes...however In the first half alone, we had 59% posession, that was obvious visually aswell as proven by the fox sports stats, 59% of 45 is 26.55 minutes, so for a-league.coms conclusion of 30% total posession, it would mean that in the entire second half we had to have had the ball for less than 30 seconds.... I think not lol Email your stats to the Aleague site & see if it does any good. They must have did their mathes schooling with the nsl.

sent the following.... To whom it may concern, I am writing in regards to the post match statistics you have posted about the Melbourne Victory and Central Coast Mariners game played on the 16th of September, you are claiming that Melbourne had 70% total possession to Mariners 30%, im afraid to inform you that this is completely incorrect and is reflecting unfairly on the latter teams efforts, the evidence of which is already started popping up in a-league forums across the country. I was watching the game on fox-sports and could clearly see for myself that not only did the Mariners have notably more possession than the 30% your summary is claiming, they actually had more possession than Melbourne. I also noted that the half-time statistics stated that the Mariners had 59% of the first half posession, this equates to 26.5 minutes of time in posession for only the first half, the 30% of the total game that has been posted on your website equates to a total of 27 minutes of posession for the entire game, in order for your statistics to be true the Mariners would of had to have had little more than 30 seconds possession in the entire second half, obviously you can see how this is a problem. I would really appreciate that this is fixed as soon as possible and the real stats are posted, as it is reflecting poorly and unfairly on the Mariners reputation as most fans who do not have access to watching the games on pay television do rely entirely on your websites summaries to draw conclusions and opinions on the teams that play. Thankyou for your time.

... And then, what about the match report?
Among other things (some of them already metioned), i found this gem:
Pffftt. Shyeah, right! They couldn't even hit the crossbar!

Yeah, its a good article. Nice to see some eyebrows raised by our clubs hard work. Personally I think, coming from Cockerill, its a big compliment.

Personally I think, coming from Cockerill, its a big compliment. over the past two seasons i have actually thought he has been quite positive towards the mariners and he has always tipped us in the top three at the beginning of each season actually was the only one that tipped us for premiers in season one

Does the SMH have a football feature on any particular day of the week, or do these articles only appear scattered randomly throughout the sport section?
I'd much rather read articles like that than 'Football Fever'

I'd much rather read articles like that than 'Football Fever' articles every day with an excellent one page preview every friday obviously not as comprehensive as FF but a more intelligent read

im getting used to negative stuff being said and written about us, point is i dont care... all that matters is that we know how the team is playing and we are sitting on top of the league... we may not finish 1st but we've given ourselves a real crack at the top 4... if you want to see negative football look no further than Sydney FC... obvious lack of speed and confidence throughout the squad, yet to quote Andy Harper in regards to SFC being last on the table "a disaster"... sometimes i think id be better off watching games on mute!

BTW, the stats have been edited to 53-47 in favour of the Tards.

Based clearly on facts and presented politely and logically. At worst, it was perhaps a little pedantic, but I thought that was jaza's middle name. Maybe whiny is making comments like the above on oppo forums because your team is bottom of the league and not playing anything worth discussing. Disaster indeed.

I totally agree with Marinermick about Mike Cockerill. I've been reading his articles for must be 15 years now and he is clearly the best football writer in the country, is extremely passionate and knowledgeable about the game and loves Australian football to death. He also gets a lot of scoops well before anyone else that are always right on the money. I must say Michael Lynch is very good as well. Both of these men write positive articles about the Mariners. I don't think it's a coincidence they are head and shoulders above Murdoch's tabloids. The News Ltd's writers are very poor and refelects the quality of the papers in general. I probably come across a bit high brow, but really the difference in the quality of journalism is embarrasing to News Ltd. One other thing, Kwassie was fantastic against the Tards and I think he has been the outstanding player of the A-League this season. I find it amazing there is people on this forum still who continue to put crap on him. What does he need to do before these people appreciate what he brings to the team? ?
