Fair call. My main point in it being weak is that they know they would've suffered a great deal more if it was handled appropriately at the time.
Once could argue that an on-field argument is different to an off-field one, although that may be a weak one.
You could argue that Mrdja did cop punishment, so further punishment from the club is unnecessary.
Also, weren't there mitigating circumstances regarding medication that he didn't realise would affect alcohol or something? I can't remember.
Argue how you like, but you can't say that a fine of 2 week's wages is anything more than a token punishment.

I was just asking the question on the a-league as a whole 2 weeks wages for me is nothing, 2 weeks for him would be the same. So yes it is a token punishment. Mrdja did not cop any penalty. Has any club added or penalised a player in the a-league???

It's not even a two week fine!
One week fine with the other week suspended.
If he was fair dinkum he would come out and donate the other week up front.
What does he have to do to have the 2nd week invoked?

. just watched the clip again - unintentional my arse! he clenches his jaw as he starts his backhander. he pulls it as he realises what he's about to do, but makes contact all the same. unintentional like f***. tbh - i'm not sure whether the jets can/should do anything 'right' on this, i'm leaning towards the conclusion that they should have simply said nothing at all and if quizzed they should have replied 'it's a matter for the FFA'. i don't think it is up to the clubs themselves to police on-field behaviour, because for a start that removes some of the responsibility from the FFA. but it also undermines the authority of the match officials because they're essentially saying the officials haven't punished him enough. goes for mrdja as well. as for o'grady - i'm sure the club and the player came to their own understanding after that. i don't recall if there was a fine or other punishment made public.

....and Harper gave him a mild public drubbing too, which was more than I thought they would say about it.

Getting fined 2 weeks wages is a token effort - if they were serious, they'd suspend him. Still, better than nothing I suppose - and at least they have set a precedent in the league for some self-discipline. Serious question, did you guys suspend your drink driver? I know you guys didnt suspend Mrdja Why would we have suspended him? There is a big difference between a bad tackle and punching an official.

What would have happened if Glasgow hit Griffiths?
2 week fine is crap, still waiting on that apology, they should make him serve as a referee for a few years, on the Central Coast.
