A few in the sqaudron have proved what we all knew all along... unsavvy, uncouth, uneducated fools... And security, wake up to yourelves... Surely the security company must be getting pressure to pick up their game... Anywhere else that alcohol is served is so bloody strict you cant fart without getting a bouncer monkey over your shoulder... Yet while all this was going on, at halftime, the monkey security were out the back of the stadium, more worried about making sure I didnt smoke in the grounds!! WTF?? WTF?? WTF??? This shits me to tears... I spend alot of money at that stadium, and if I want to have a smoke out the back i bloody well will, ecpecially when there is other shit like this going on in the stadium... So Me as a smoker is more dangerous to the game and the community than idiots in the stands burning shit??? WAKE UP SECURITY, you are softer than the Griffiths brothers... the companies contract should be in serious scrutiny if they cannot provide adaquate, balanced security Meez thinks... is monkey now mainstream

Original you tube video was taken off. Obviously whoever put it on there realised they could actually get in trouble. But I found another; http://www.youtube.com./watch?v=oMacRg-hH0Q Seriously, how dumb do you have to be to carry on with this kind of rubbish. This is criminal behaviour and very, very stupid thing to do. This should be taken up with the league and these culprits should be banned from attending the HAL. It cannot be ignored. People could have been seriously injured in a stampede or badly burnt if other combustibles also caught fire. I consider this very serious and action must be taken by Scum management and the HAL. Charges should be laid by the police. The culprits are clearly identifiable in the video and it would be very easy for the police and club to locate those responsible. The fire could have easily got out of control and I don't even want to think about what could have happened if that occurred. We cannot let this go with just a few messages in this forum or dismiss it as just idiots from the scum. Action must be taken so this sort of thing never happens again. I'm just about to fire off an email to CCM and the HAL. This needs to be taken a lot further.

Totally agree marinersman...
Even though some may call it bad press, it has to be seen as being sorted out, not ignored. It is a disgrace that it happened at our stadium...
Security should also be hauled over the coals as well...

Monday, 8 October 2007 Definition of a fan:
- an enthusiastic devotee, follower, or admirer of a sport, pastime.
The enthusiasm that was portrayed yesterday by Jets supporters certainly left an indelible mark on all that viewed it.
As usual after every match I fInd myself reflecting on the events of the day. The recurring images that come to my mind involve our supporters.
The commitment and the voice on display yesterday by the Squadron fans left no one in doubt as to who provided the best support for their team. There were some public comments made during the week preceding the match as to the quality of our supporters.
To all the Newcastle Jets supporters that attended the game yesterday, I commend you on the support that you provided to your team yesterday. You were a credit to yourselves and to the Hunter and I am in no doubt that the team responded to that support and felt you as the 12th man on the field which provided the inspiration required to get the equaliser.
This support is no different to the support that I have seen you provide the Jets so many times in the past. However, in the context of the week where your credibility was questioned, I think that the Squadron and all Newcastle Jets supporters in attendance at the ground put that argument to rest.
Bring on Wellington… see you all there!
And this shit posted on their website from their CEO, John Tsatsimas. Left an indelible mark all right! Burning of flags, terrorising mums and their kids in the car park, jumping on cars in the main street of Gosford.
If there a credit to their team and the Hunter, God help Newcastle!

Complaints about the Squadron taken from their forum
---
This is not a message of support to the Jets Players who I admire, but to the Squadron and others that attended the Mariners Game yesterday (Sunday 7th October).
I am proud to represent the Jets and Newcastle at the games, but yesterday I was disgusted by the behaviour of the majority of the Squadron and "hangers on" that were at the game.
Firstly we had lunch at The Gosford Hotel where the squadron had started their day. We were delighted when we first entered the hotel to see everyone there and how much fun they were having. After an hour though, things got totally out of control, with skulling games, and chanting with disgusting language in it. There were older people at the hotel as well as young, and I was appauled when the chanting started with filthy language. I am not a prude, but I just do not see the need for disgusting language.
There was one particular moron who stood at the bar and screamed abuse at another supporter, apparently in fun, with the "f" word flying around, while people were trying to have lunch. The bar attender warned him but he continued to argue with him.
After a couple of hours we headed to the ground as the squadron spilled out onto the streets. Again the language started and some fools began to throw their scarves and other items onto the road in front of passing traffic, then running onto the road to retrieve them. Not only were they putting their lives at risk but the drivers and passengers of the vehicles. They then surrounded several cars on the street. We continued on our way to the ground and watched an enjoyable game.
Once we left the ground, we had to again endure squadron members filthy language, and when approached by a man with young children and asked to watch the language, he was hit with a barrage of abuse and words of "we are the new generation"..! If this is an insight to what our new generation is like, then god help us.
We were then "entertained" by the squadron again on the platform of Gosford station with yet again, filthy language and the chant "1 nil and you f@!& it up"... there were families and elderly people on the platform who moved away from the gang but still had no choice but endure the disgusting language pouring from the mouths of members.
The group I attended the game with were appalled by the behaviour and language and we ask "do we want this type of squadron representing Newcastle"? Our answer is - NO...
Clean your act up, there is no need or room in fact, for this type of stupidity and I for one do not want to be put into that type of category when the complaints flood in about unrulely Jets Supporters.
I have sent a copy of this email to the Jets Headoffice, hoping that some action will be taken with the squadron and this situation dealt with.
We all support what you do, but just not the way you are going about it at the moment, and I am hoping the "leader of the pack" has the common sense to call a meeting and address this problem.
Fond Jets Supporter <name withheld>

Club Enquiry - 10/08/2007 10:14 AM
Enquiry Type: Community
I took my family to watch the Mariners V Jets last night. We were greeted by Jets supporters spilling out of the Gosford Hotel onto Mann Street Gosford. We were stopped and surrounded by the Jet supporters who yelled abuse to us. We were so intimidated we locked the doors. In the stadium the Jet supporters set fire to a Mariners scarf and tossed it onto the pitch. The disgraceful display of filth coming from their mouths directed to Lawrie McKinna and his team was totally unacceptable in the family environment that has been built up around the A League Soccer. We then had to deal with the scuffles from the Jet supporters while trying to leave the stadium with young children with us.
What an utter display of so called "sportsmanship" and "supporting" of their team.
Advise the "supporters" to stay in the pub and watch it on Foxtel and leave families to enjoy their night.

Good stuff there... Im confused, is this guy for real, not only is the squadron's credability in question last week, this week their behaviour is in serious question. Behaviour that endangers the reputation of our league is now being congratulated by the CEO??? This is dangerous, cuz the young bevans will now think they did the right thing... and do it again???

Dear Sir/ Madam
I want to draw your attention to the attached link clearly showing Newcastle supporters burning a Mariners flag at the above mentioned game. I was at the match but did not witness this incident myself.
I consider this to be a criminal offence. The fire could have easily escalated into a very serious situation whereby people could have been seriously injured by fire and/or in a stampede fleeing the fire.
Those responsible are clearly identifiable in the video. Police should be made aware of this incident and it should be investigated. Newcastle United Jets management should be advised of the situation and are ultimately responsible for the actions of their fans. These idiots should be banned from attending HAL and FFA held football matches.
I am writing to request a formal investigation into this incident and appropriate action be taken.
Criminal behaviour such as this must be stamped out immediately to avoid a potential tragedy occurring inside a stadium.
I consider this to be a very serious matter which cannot be ignored. I hope the HAL and FFA share the same view.
I look forward to hearing back from you.
Thanks and kind regards
Simon McKenzie

This is the email I shot off the HAL. I've also emailed the Mariners and the scum club, basically the same email just changed a few words to suit the recipient.
I would urge a few of you guys to do the same as well. The more noise we make about this the better the chance of some action being taken. The squeeky wheel gets the oil as they say.
Interesting to see SFC are considering banning tards supporters from the SFS. I don't think it's an over-reaction for Lyall and co to at least consider something similar for the scum supporters.

good to see newcastle have some supporters with brains, as for those who took part in the scarf burning they should be banned from all FFA events, that includes Socceroos

Its hard, because we do want the opposition fans there for derbies, as Lawrie tried to (pretty well) to do...
I personally want away fans at the stadium.... But I reiterate.. away fans.... not the imposters that were here sunday. I dnt think we should ban away fans, but put more presure on the Ground security, HAL, FFA etc firm up, get some spine and act, on the spot and after the event, neither happened here.
I cant even light up a smoke in the club without security being all over me...Why doesnt this heavy handidness apply when lighting up, um errrr, ..a scarf? which could have serious consequences...

We then had to deal with the scuffles from the Jet supporters while trying to leave the stadium with young children with us. Now alot of the stuff in both those complaints are valid and to Marinersman well done for sticking to your guns about these situations. Fire in a ground regardless of nature is illegal and people should be arrested, banned etc... Only thing i disagree about here is the Jets fans were the only ones to start/be blamed for the scuffles. Im not condoning the actions just that an open view from both sides without laying blame on either sets of fans, just the people involved

Not quite Jaza, I just care about our game too much to have it dragged through the mud by the silly actions of a stupid few. Excuse me for caring about the league as a whole and not just engaging in a pissing contest with Melbourne all season.
