Shit, here we go. www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/story/0,22049,22551458-5001023,00.html * Youtube footage of the Squadron burning our scarf. Congratulations you f*cking idiots, I hope you're glad that your antics have dragged the game into further disrepute. * Possible banning of Melbourne fans from the SFS, as well as lifetime bans for anyone who attacked the referee. (I've read a lot of the Melbourne forum, and it seems the SCC caused a lot of the pre and post game shit as well. Either way, not a good look for anyone) * Taking the absolute piss out of the game's disciplinary code. (justified, but it still makes us look like pansies) A headline consisting of "Soccer's return to shame". *shakes head* I hate the Terrorgraph as much as the next person, but it's the families in the mortgage belts that make up a large percentage of their readership, and I can just see the mainstream media hammering on this kind of shit for weeks..... Guys (and girls), WE CANNOT LET THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA DRAG US BACK INTO THE BAD OLD DAYS. I don't know how we go about this, but something has to be done. It might want to start with the FFA - a derby weekend sounded like a good idea at the time, but it's probably best to not do it in the future. Anyone got any ideas on how to go about countering this sort of bad press?? Because with Griffiths getting let off and more and more people getting to read about how every single soccerball fan in the history of the game is nothing but a thug, it's only going to intensify. I'd be game to go so far as to invite a pack of travelling fans (possibly Adelaide, QLD, or even some of the friendlier parts of the Cove) to make a giant banner with us saying something about how great football fans (mostly) are, and even contemplate standing with us all game so that we can show anyone and everyone just what real football support can be about. Ideas?? Comments??

"Possible banning of Melbourne fans from the SFS, as well as lifetime bans for anyone who attacked the referee" So fifa did over rule the griffo case then ;)As much as i hate him that seems a tiny bit harsh.

yeah its getting out of hand a bit lately, ultras ideaology is starting to get into melbourne and now newcastle too, i know someone in newcastle who is behind it and we debated long and hard over it, as much as i love passionate support burning scarves and wrapping scarves over your face is not the image we want

I saw one of the Squadrunt Ultras walking in wih a scarf over his face and asked him if it was because he was an ugly "griffiths"? His mates actually laughed and he slunk away.
A lot of the issues could easily be stopped if we had security who actually did their freakin jobs. Having a police presence that just stand around doing nothing is a pointless waste of time.
Stopping people entering the ground who are obviously blind drunk might be a good place to start.

A lot of the issues could easily be stopped if we had security who actually did their freakin jobs. Did you see security's effort when the burnt scarf was thrown onto the ground?? Shameful...... they slowly (very, it took them more than 2 minutes to walk from Bay 16 to where the scarf was) wandered over and then poured half a bottle of water onto it, which succeeded in doing f*ck all, it was still smoking. They then said something to the Squadrunts, then everyone (including security) laughed and then they kept walking, smoldering scarf still sitting on the ground. This having already walked on our banner. Twice.

google search reveals that massoud is just an NRL hack looking for stories to write. he's simply looking for any angle to promote 'his' sport over ours. all the more reason to not feed the bastard. i don't care that the scummers burnt a scarf - they bought it after all, so it's their dolecheque money in ashes. i do care that it's now a media issue that every other fan will get tagged with. maybe some of this lot haven't been around for long, and don't realise how tenuous a grasp we have on the sporting landscape. this comp is barely into its third season massoud and his ilk will write negative stories about us no matter what we do. but we certainly don't need to create any extra reason for it. we don't want to create the circumstance where even one person turns away from our games. people do come for atmosphere. even hostility. but macho posturing, burning things, flares, fireworks and whatnot - that's not football, that's just people who haven't grown up yet.

Only a few weeks until the Sydney game. Anyone got any contacts with the Cove??? Id happily stand at 1 end of the ground with them, with a banner saying whatever you like to rub it into the media. Wankers.

As said on Syd forums
"Football has to be squeaky clean. There are too many vested interests out there ready to blow up any minor disturbance. This will require a lot of self policing with supporter groups letting there members no what is not acceptable. Really we can be our own worst enemies."
Take heed of this Newcastle.

I really like the idea of some sort of banner/temporary coming together with the cove. Would show to these wankers in the media that were not all ultras like these melb and scummers and that we dont like each but in a civilised respectful way.

I remember Melbourne doing a protest last year after Channel 9 and The Herald Sun published similar articles, and as far as I'm aware the protest was a massive success, even drawing front page coverage on The Age.
No reason we couldn't do the same up here, but have even more effect - two supporters groups standing side by side, even if only for a half??
Far more powerful than any flare if you ask me.

Maybe this calls for someone to invite media into the Kendall before the Sydney game to view the pre match sing off between us and the cove? Nothing says 'Ultra' like fans waiting their turn to insult one another . Plus a "We love you Johnny we do" chant by both supporter groups during the game. We need to show them it is really all about the football.

Sounds like a good idea, the friendly rivalry between the Cove and Marinators is respected my many and is a good example of 2 rival groups doing the right thing, even if things get a little excited in the grounds at the Kendall its all good!! ;D

Ideas?? Comments?? Could not agree more. I have waited for a decent and growing league in football for years. A very few wankers mainly mid teen lead by a pick in his late thirties (often a pommie) tries to create a European style fans sledge. These guys need to be outer ed by their supporter groups identified to their clubs. The stuff that when on the weekend was bad and will get worse if nothing is done. These pricks get their rocks off by causing trouble. However football cannot carry them, they turn people off in a big way. A small history when the Northern Spirit played the chanting from Spirit started off mild. Crowds flocked Mums Dads kids. Then it stated slowly at first with mild swearing like the song "We can't hear (teams name) sing, to we can't hear a F***** thing. Then as a goal keeper was taking a goal kick all point and go Your S*hit, Your S*hit. Then from who ate all the pies you ate all the pies, To you ate the F***** pies. It is a real turn off for families. They do stop comimg and tell everyone not to come. However this current state of play should not be allowed to go any further. To Newcastle just dobb the pricks in have them banned for a couple of games they need to wake up to themselves. FFA & Security at home games seem gutless mayby we need self regulation. However the NRL / AFL / Rugby, media will not let this pass. Also like the idea of combined banner with Cove and maybe with Newcastle. Because as DIBO said maybe some of this lot haven't been around for long, and don't realise how tenuous a grasp we have on the sporting landscape. this comp is barely into its third season.

Original you tube video was taken off. Obviously whoever put it on there realised they could actually get in trouble. But I found another; http://www.youtube.com./watch?v=oMacRg-hH0Q
Seriously, how dumb do you have to be to carry on with this kind of rubbish.

A few in the sqaudron have proved what we all knew all along... unsavvy, uncouth, uneducated fools...
And security, wake up to yourelves... Surely the security company must be getting pressure to pick up their game... Anywhere else that alcohol is served is so bloody strict you cant fart without getting a bouncer monkey over your shoulder...
Yet while all this was going on, at halftime, the monkey security were out the back of the stadium, more worried about making sure I didnt smoke in the grounds!! WTF?? WTF?? WTF???
This shits me to tears... I spend alot of money at that stadium, and if I want to have a smoke out the back i bloody well will, ecpecially when there is other shit like this going on in the stadium... So Me as a smoker is more dangerous to the game and the community than idiots in the stands burning shit???
WAKE UP SECURITY, you are softer than the Griffiths brothers... the companies contract should be in serious scrutiny if they cannot provide adaquate, balanced security Meez thinks...
