Im going to throw my 2 cents in this giant ring.
Im a Jets fan through and through and by posting on these forums in no way am i looking to add fuel to the already large enough fire(no pun intended).
I was at sundays derby, and saw alot of shit go down. From a truly heroic(or idiotic) mariners fan walking right into the middle of the marching squadron,to being less than 2 metres away from a burning scarf.
Both our parties are guilty of a great deal of f***ups, and as much as im ashamed to admit, its quite obvious that we were the bigger knobs on the day. Unlike a great deal of fans,i prefer not to drink at any football games,as i like to be able to actually remember the game, which is the whole reason i go there in the first place, maybe a few people should try this sometime,im sure it will cure a lot of problems.
I am completly behind Timmy in everything he has said.Security was absolutly rubbish. When that scarf was first lit,i remember thinking "Shit this is not gonna end well...".A quick glance around i saw 3 security guards, and at least 2 Police officers happy to sit back and watch this unfold for around 2.5 mins. Granted,it should not have happened int the first place, but once you`ve done the shit, you should wipe your arse as quick as possible i reckon, not just sit around and enjoy the smell.
As for the Squadron....yes we have some tools but please try and see the forest from the trees. The greater majority of us are levelheaded, sane football fans, who follow our team with great passion.I didnt see any cars get kicked,so i cant comment on that.As the other newie boys have said,i saw at least 3 fights get started from your boys,so lets drop the old "Newcastle started it all" campaign.
As for whoever it was that rejected the offer of a coming together with The Squadron, grow a brain you f***in idiot, its that exact shit we are trying to stamp out here. Rant off/ Pissed Off Jets Fan.

Hopefully the club (who I assume are responsible for security on match days) realise that they completely f*cked it up on Sunday security wise.
How freakin hard is it??
1) Away support not behind the goal but one of the bays down the side, near the scoreboard.
2) All away support to be directed there (no mingling in bay 15 FFS - that was where it went off against Bling and could easily done so this weekend). If you are in away colours, not behind the goals - end of
3) Security/Police presence to be visible and active (not grouped on the Western concourse collecting their overtime). Watching people commit criminal acts cannot be tolerated regardless of who the supporters are.
4) Rather than be sooooooooo vigilant stopping people smoking (and failing :-)) - try cracking down on underage drinking, obvious drunks and people smuggling drink into the ground (its pretty obvious to spot as they queue to get in (that applies to both sides). Drink fuels this kind of shit (der). The bars are good at asking for ID but the kiddies know this and an older mate goes to the bar. Who would have thought that??
5) After the game, away support to leave by a different entrance as at the last SFC game.
If we have a reduction in atmosphere/banter etc to ensure safety and no incidents - price we have to pay.
My derby day experiences at EAS are not lessened by the fact that I am not 2 bays away from the Squadrunts.
Sorry CCMM, you spent a week talking up the derby and goading the scum support and then you wonder why you get incidents like this. Security this season has failed at every home game by allowing drunken tools to approach bay 16 to start a fight and then having to be told to do their jobs.
I hate criticising my club because we do things so damn well. However. You ballsed this up big time and you need to fix it.

Half your bunch aren't there to watch & support a football team. They are there to get pissed & cause trouble protected by a mob. Great generalisation, stuff like that can only help things

curious and fish are right - it's a matter of taking personal responsibility for your actions because your actions reflect on the group collectively.
having lots of police around will also turn off the casual (not the acquascutum jacketed burberry capped kind) supporter who wants to take their kids into the stands.
when there are lots of cops around and everyone's supporting their team but essentially behaving themselves they also sometimes get bored and overreact to such things as a long-haired galoot tossing an empty beer cup.
more police is one answer, but the better answer is people taking responsibility for their own actions and not relying on old bill to stop them from making pork chops of themselves.

There were enough police and security there...there wasn't exactly mass hooliganism...they just weren't doing their jobs properly.

Not sure which thread this should go in, as there are a few about Sunday's derby and the unfortunate incidents that went on......
Anyway, one idea being thrown around to try and prevent trouble in future seems to be the segregation of away fans at matches. I'm just wondering if we aren't being a bit hasty in considering this.
For me, one of the best things about attending football (or any other sporting event for that matter) in Australia as opposed to Europe, is being able to sit shoulder to shoulder with the other team's fans, enjoy the game, enjoy the banter etc....I'd find it a shame if that aspect disappeared.
What do you guys think - is this a necessary step?

I thought that playing the odd game of football between supporter groups meant that they were in love. Kind of like us and the Cove.

I agree with what Greenpole said above, but add that these issues have been brought up again and again with CCMFC, Stadium Management and on some instances the Police.
No one wants to do anything to upset the rights of folks to walk and sit where they want with the GA tickets.
And no one wants to upset the visiting away team supporters and actually get them corralled into a solid group, well away from Bay 16, told to stay there or else and leave en masse away from the rest of the stadium spectators.
How HARD is it to tell the Squadron or the Cove to assemble at the Western gates, enter there, go to Bay 2 & STAY there and leave via Western exit? The Marinators have been treated just the same way when travelling away, so what's the issue?
Unfortunately, you can try and talk to these folks again, but unless they've had a jolt of lightning up the kyber's from the bad press in the Terrorgraph, I doubt things will change.
If all things stay the same, all I can say is that those who are in Bay 16 and surrounding Bays, please exercise a fair bit of restraint when dealing with drunken idiots (btw, what happened to RSA and admission responsibilities Stadium Management?) and try to walk away from any confrontation. Hopefully, Security will get their act into gear before someone ends up hurt and in hospital.

i totally agree with Pete and Greenpole. If you could pass ideas on your club would be great aswell.I sent a email on monday but still dont have a response yet
With the police and security thing. I agree that people are at fault for there own actions. Im just trying to say if there was more of them around i bet alot more people would think twice about what actions they take

Pete - I suspect we will have to wait for something to go horribly wrong before action is taken.
Sunday would have been a disaster APART from the restraint shown by home supporters. There was plenty of provocation wasnt there?? I havent heard the "come and have a go if you think you're hard enough" chant for many years (and never in Australia). That isnt banter, thats an incitement to violence.
Walking through the middle of 16 prior to the game calling people "Griffiths" and being generally threatening was also ignored (well done BTW)
If anyone else wants to buddy up with these people - go right ahead. I'm with Bear on this 100%. I have spoken to sensible Jest fans this week at work and am in Newcastle tomorrow with a few of them, and those who were at the game were largely ashamed and embarrassed. Even the guys I was talking to at HT were apologising.
Timmy, you sound like a decent bloke - I would leave these tools and either form a grown up group or split away from the pond scum element. They dont deserve your support or help TBH

And I'll be honest enough to admit I am the wrong person to be talking to the club or the stadium management about how they handle things like spectator safety, as I tend to go off my block more than most folks would. Last week was the first time in ages I have stood in Bay 16, had a great time. I don't feel it's right for me to say anything about how things are monitored there as I am a rare visitor. I have a seat in the stands usually, as I like to study the game better.

For whoever mentioned the Underage drinking thing - I understand in Round 2 the police were making that a main thing I don't know what's happened since, E-Group security need to seriously pull their heads in, they've stuffed up on a number of occasions and it really needs to stop (a number of them are good, it's just the boneheads seem to be near the trouble). I agree with the suggestion of moving the away fans, a number of us have been saying it since day one and it is time for it to happen.

Sunday was just way over the top and blokes like myself, newieutd and others will be doing our best to bring it back to a lot suitable level. Im sure and really hope that we wont have problems again like on sunday.
