Sasho was tugging at Vargas shirt. Vargas tried to swipe/elbow Sasho off him. Vargas collected Sasho with his elbow. Vargas - straight red for elbow Sasho - Yellow for tugging shirt Sounds very similar to a certain incident last week involving everyone's favourite Novocastrian. Only the red was given though.

TBH, our performance was frustrating to watch. There was a long period in the middle where we went to sleep and continually lost possession. The Melbourne goal was pure defensive error, with the goalscorer left unmarked because of a mistaken belief that he was offside! Well he was until the last moment, when he fell behind the line of the ball just before it was passed to him! Not good enough and it could have spelt defeat...
Having said all that, we were unlucky early in the first half not to have scored 3 goals. When they did come, the goals were pure magic. And I agree about the substitutions. They changed the face of the game.

Can someone post a brief transcript of the main parts of what Harper and Cockerill said? Having trouble accessing the foxsports videos.
I thought we were playing into Melbourne's hands for most of the match. All they wanted to do was rob us of the ball and put it over the top out wide for Archie and Allsopp to run onto. Boogs and Viddie aren't as fast as those guys and should have held their line a little deeper, rather than standing on halfway and having to turn and chase. We could have had their attack playing in front of us and making them go backwards. Instead we let them get in behind and this happened one too many times for their goal.
Luckily their goal finally sparked us into doing what we should have been all along and things worked out right. Another lesson learned. I'm just glad the monkey is off our back for playing against 10 or 9 men.

Can someone post a brief transcript of the main parts of what Harper and Cockerill said? Having trouble accessing the foxsports videos. AH: Just 11,000 unfortunately, that ‘s probably the only detraction from what happened here this afternoon, would have liked a few more people here to have seen this, to have seen John Aloisi and to have seen the match of football that ensued
MC: The best team lost this game you have to say that, the Mariners very lucky to get out of it…
…somehow the Mariners roused themselves in the last 10 minutes with a couple of goals that maybe they didn’t deserve to be honest, ah, Lawrie McKinna will obviously take the points but he will have to ask some questions about this performance
Well those scenes tell the story really that’s just pure relief from those Mariners players, pure relief for a lot of the fans here. For most of this game the Mariners’ fans were very quiet, it was the small group of Victory fans who came up from Melbourne who were making all the noise with good reason but somehow, and it’s a strange game this game of ours, football, somehow the Mariners have got away with the points.
AH: Melbourne, only 48% of the possession, but there was what they did with that possession that was really telling, could easily have scored more than one. 54% of the time in the opposition half for the Mariners again is a again misleading I guess when you look at the flow of the game, 11 corners – 6 of those to Melbourne, there’s one of those stats that sticks out, and 3 offsides, just shows how Melbourne were pressing the Mariners’ defence. Total shots the Mariners 23 to 15 from Melbourne, balls into the penalty area, well for a team that had a man less for a good hour that’s a pretty even stat 20 to 13 and then 6 shots on target each – the goalkeepers had to earn their money.
..and it’s the Central Coast, back where they spent the first six weeks of the competition, alone on top. [We were there alone for 9 weeks, bucko… this has been the only week of the year when we weren’t, and we were only behind on goal difference.] I’ve already commented on the crowd, they are probably right that we were a bit quiet (there were patches of severe frustration in the patch after half-time) and I think generally we need to do a fair bit better, but all the noise from the Melbourne supporters? Hmmm… In particular (and making a nice change) after we went down the noise lifted and we brought them home. After it was 1-1 we went again and after the 2-1 it was as deafening as I’ve heard it in a long while. Harper on the stats is plain hilarious and I don’t think we were lucky. We gritted it out, and we had to come back to win it. To say Melbourne dominated is rubbish – we created more chances as you can see by balls into the box and shots away, we just muffed more too. And we did put one more away than they did so we get the points. Tough shit to them, you gotta make your own luck.

I was just talking to my sister who lives on John Whiteway drive in Gosford, and she said she could here us chanting from there. So well done everyone ;D ;D that's quite a way off, up the hill near henry parry drive on the other side of the CBD (central boredom district), shows why we need a roof! Keeping that noise in for the people 100m away rather than for people 500m away out of the stadium would be nice!

Did anyone see Singo and Kossie up in the Box having a chat?
On the chants etc, Honestly I havent heard the Mainators back up the performance of rnd 1 in sydney yet this year! I was there with us all then, and we were really gold. But I dont think we have been that loud or that organised since...
And the Stadium announcer has to go! HE couldnt get anyone excited about much!! Are there any retired fight announcers on the coast?? Someone with a real voice to get the crowd going.... That little Aloisi chant he tried to get going was a bit embarrasing IMO, should have been coordinated with the marinators and it would have come off better>>>

Can anyone else hear it now; "Well there you have it ladies and gentlemen, the Central Coast Mariners have won the 2007/08 A-League Grand Final. Final score, 10-1. They clearly weren't the most amazing team on the park, but somehow managed to come away with a win. Look at the relief on the players faces, and the fans, the quiet, quiet fans. They didn't make much noise, even though it was a sell out crowd here today at their home ground, Blue Tounge Stadium and it was full to the brim of Mariners supporters, you could hardly hear them. Most of the noise came from the 5 opposition supporters over in the corner of the ground.
The Mariners had 85% of possession, compared to the oppositions 15%. But it's what the opposition did with the possession that counted. Fair enough 9/10 of the opposition teams first touches were rubbish, but that 10th time was always a cracker.
Most would say the Mariners spending all 21 rounds at the top of the table was an absolute fluke, and I'd have to agree. We're talking about a team with the smallest population behind them, how is it possible they got up there and managed to stay there is beyond me, and the rest of the fox sports commentary team, and i'd have to say, that all apposing teams and their fans would have to agree. There is no other team in the competition that is less deserving than the Central Coast Mariners. The only consolation is the trophy looks like a toilet seat." well, you get the point. ;D ;D

B*****ks to Harper, Cockerill and all the rest of 'em......we may not have played total football in every round, but we deserve what we've achieved so far.....
It's actually quite funny listening to them whine on like spoilt little kids - makes us being top even more enjoyable in a way.

OK so the large part of the game I am happy to not see repeated...
It's been said already but the right side was (with the late afternoon sun literally) a shining light late in the match. Gump (no surprise) was driven and challenging for the tiring melbourne defense but add Porter to the mix and they simply couldn't win. Challenge porter and Gumps was away... shut down Gump and Porter let fly challenging crosses that were lucky not to have brought more. I must admit I have not really ever paid a lot of attention to Porter but I will look forward to seeing him in action more often.
It was so good to see all that artillery on the field up front and it was so intimidatingly aggressive after the Melbourne goal that you almost felt (well at least I did) that the goals had to come.
I was frustrated for Aloisi he really was heavily handled but there were a few moments where he really looked to have been stopped and he took an extra step or muscled past his defender, once getting a first touch strike that hinted of what may come if anyone lets him move freely.
I must admit that for a large part I was wishing I didn't have to watch but the take away from a gome like that is the dream of a week where we field a full fit squad and play to our full potential all match... the competition would not know what hit them

I agree Shoots,, the two games he has played for us he has been heavily marked the whole game, Im sure he is going to do well for us.
And when we do play a whole 90 with a fully fit squad again, it will be good to see.
Vargas cried!!! ...or did he have something in his eye? (personal highlight of the match for me, besides the Tommy Magic....)
