Back to my old hobby horse. We are about be hit with a 10% rates hike. I read in the local paper the Coast's population is continuing to grow. Has the council shut up shop and resigned itself to the fact that there is no flat land owned by council available to develop as football fields so we do nothing? What happens in 20 years time with that philosophy. In my opinion Council needs to buy suitable land when it comes on the market. Noticed this in the Real Estate Guide this week. Adjacent to Pluim. www.ccpp.com.au/index.php?action=listingview&listingID=458Will cost a pretty penny but what is the alternative? as you said at the start of your post: We are about be hit with a 10% rates hike. that crystallises the issue perfectly. whatever is done and for whom is always limited from start to finish by cost. too high a cost, too big an effect on rates, and people will whip out the broom and sweep even the most well-intentioned councillors away. write to council and suggest things by all means, hell, go along to a council meeting in the public question time session and ask a question. but don't expect the answer to be as simple as 'we never thought of that' or 'we hoped nobody would notice we were doing that' - there are more complex issues at play than 'let's buy up another block of land'.

Maybe in 2030 they will be saying if only we bought some land back in 2007.

Maybe in 2030 they will be saying if only we bought some land back in 2007. maybe in 2008 they'll all be looking for new ways to occupy their time after getting the arse for buying up land for ovals... government at any level is about competing priorities. councils have to balance different interests and keep spending under control. there's no magic pudding that lets them invest shitloads in everything they want. that's why you should contact them, and see what they say.

Gosford City Council take a further month offf soccer. Have just heard from one of my mates who plays for our club and is in a positition with CCF that CCC has advised that grounds will be taken from clubs from the 3rd September. GCC excuse is that to delay any further will seriously affect Summer Sports. What a load of c rap. GCC is obviously controlled by 2 sports, cricket and RL. Love both sports except when our local council gives them preference over my sport when we outnumber both of them together in player numbers. Apparently GCC excuse is that they must get grounds ready for summer comps. Why do they not stop cricket and summer sports at beginning of March to get fiels ready for winter comps. GCC must eventually realise that our sport has more voters associated with it than most other codes on the coast. Those in Parks and Gardens Dept of GCC should realise we all are their wage beneficiaris, not just cricket.

I'll give you the same advice as i gave to offtheball the other day - write to council about it and get it sussed out. It may well be that there are good reasons behind this. My punt at it is that if the shoe were on the other foot and January and February cricket were basically all washed out then the shoe would be on the other foot. CCF will be granted use of the fields for a certain period of time after which cricket gets them. RL, RU and Aussie rules will have same problem (dates may be different, but the basic thing is there will be pre-agreed dates to stop using the grounds). GCC is obviously controlled by 2 sports, cricket and RL. When it's either a conspiracy or a stuffup, go for stuffup every time. The season's weather affected, games will be lost. Shit happens. Seriously, this should not be a surprise to anyone...
