What about instead of paying the increased registration fee which I believe was $20 per player, junior and senior why not all the clubs contribute this money to developing some club grounds with all the important stuff like water, irrigation lights etc, you would find it may not take long to rejuvenate every club. This makes more sense than giving it to CCF to waste again in 2007 on staff doing the same job 3 times over and massive duplication, they even fail to return club secretary's or general enquiry phone calls.

Clubs dont own the grounds. So ultimately have to work with council for everything. It would be good if the clubs negotiated with say schools to provide a secondary training facility to take some use of the gorunds.
I believe Terrigal this year made a deal with Terrigal high to help improve their ground so as We could train on the field preseason. But after preseason would be too dark. Not sure clubs would invest in the lighting etc since schools would not use such facilities.

Well firstly the extra $20 per player increase is to help bail out the CCF of the mess they now find themselves in so can't be used for development.
It could be a good idea to talk to local schools. If clubs could cover the costs of lighting, I'm sure there would be schools (especially ones that have problems with kids/ teens hanging around in the early evening causing trouble) that would be happy to have football teams training on their grounds, worth looking into anyway.

Packaged temporary lighting systems (like the things you see on the freeway with built in generators) operating on school fields..................that would be an interesting concept.
Unsure what the cost implications would be but it could be an option. Of course the schools would probably want something out of it as well.
Perhaps a way to offset the costs of such a system would be to share the school oval with another club. ie one club trains monday & wednesday, the other tuesday & thursdays. The days on and off could rotate each week. to keep it fair on both clubs.
It would mean that the council fields would only be used on game days on the week end. Council should contribute something to the cause since there would be enourmous savings in not lighting up the council ground with the flood lights during the week.

A fiend of mine is a senior coach and he has written applications to Terrigal High, Erina High and the Grammar School to train his mens team. He has been knocked back by all three.

My sources tell me it is about 90% likely at this stage that all senior soccer on the coast will be cancelled. Juniours will play.

i reckon council is only making the threat so we don't complain about how bad the pitches are like last season
i, for one, will lead a protest if senior football is cancelled
like has been mentioned, it is more down to the lack of council planning and resources than the state of the ovals

NSW govt is also part of the problem - water infrastructure is a state issue. this isn't a problem that's solved for free, or with a magic wand. there's going to need to be some money spent, and the money needs to come from somewhere.

Is there any economical viability for artificial surfaces and can football be safely played on it? If so, does an artificial surface cost less to maintain?

Is there any economical viability for artificial surfaces and can football be safely played on it? If so, does an artificial surface cost less to maintain? a lot more expensive than grass, if you want to use it for just regular fields. can be viable for secure stadium facilities (even pluim might be doable), but regular fields i don't think so. plus the fields around are multi-use, so i think it'd be assessed against cricket as well in particular, and wouldn't be suitable for both. costs less to maintain (i think) compared to stadium grass, but loads more than a council park.
