are you sure about Holland? ive heard he is in negotiations with another club? has anyone heard anything about holland recently or anyone else who might sign for the club because we have to sign someone else because we have only 2 players that are under the age of 20?

i wouldve thought its a bit premature for him to think about europe and he will probably end up in a level below english football league level if he did decide to go there. europe is a terrible decision for an 18 year old because if money is a motivating factor itll probly be offset by a rise in living expenses. a-league is better for him even if he probably will be a 85th minute sub whenever he plays but he probably will get some starts when injury takes its toll and if he is as good as ive heard he will be a valuable player for us and he will get some good experience and exposure at a-league level.

Yeah, as a member of some youth academy more likely . While I can appreciate that Holland needs to make some well considered decisions about where he wants to go, getting an inflated opinion about what the clubs would offer him is going to do him no justice. Maybe the Mariners should approach Reading and see if they could release Ollie Bozanic for the A-League season, and get him on loan? Or at least put that story out there (It may bring Holland to the negotiation table quicker if he thinks that Ollie may grab "his" spot and leave him out in the cold)

Has Mr. Culina indicated that young Carney is definately out of Sydney FC's squad, or is Carney just trying to gazump everybody for the top dollar. It's funny that Carney is hailed as a gamebreaker by some at FC when Arnie is considering using him at left fullback as a reserve stop gap measure for the Socceroos (which shows a bit of apprehension about exposing Carney to the midfield strategies at the top level).

Too true... I did say "reserve stop gap", and in a position he isn't playing at club level.(Kinda like teeing up field players to play goalie if both the goalie and his reserve get injured, I guess )

Marcus Wedau has been released from the Roar citing Personal Reasons.Wedau released on compassionate grounds Thursday, 5 July FOLLOWING a request from German import Marcus Wedau, Queensland Roar have agreed on compassionate grounds to release the midfielder from the remaining year of his two-year contract. With his pregnant partner due to give birth in October, 31-year-old Wedau expressed a wish to provide physical and emotional support back in Germany as the birth of his first child draws closer. “It’s important to me that I am supportive to my partner both during the lead up to the birth of our child and the period immediately afterwards,” Wedau said. “I am naturally disappointed to leave as I was hoping to force my way into the Queensland Roar team this season following a frustrating time with injuries last year. “I’ve felt fitter and stronger during this pre-season but in life some things have to come before football. It is better for the team and better for me and my partner if I leave the club before the season gets any closer to starting,” he added. Roar Coach Frank Farina wished Wedau well for the future, saying he fully supported the principles of his decision. “Marcus is a good player and a nice guy. I fully understand his reasons for wanting to be with his partner as they enjoy the birth of their first child and this is an important time for any new family. “We wish him all the very best for the future and hope he enjoyed his time here. He will be the first to admit that last season didn’t go well for him, but he was looking very sharp at training recently and was determined to have a good year. “I’m sure he will find a new club in Germany and he leaves with our very best wishes,” Farina said. The release takes effect immediately and Wedau will depart Australia this weekend.
