The Scum have agreed to terms with a new Brazilian Playmaker, Denni Rocha Dos Santos, who played in the Brazilian 2nd division. He is apparently "in the mould of Melbourne livewire Fred". every second brazilian signed in this a-league has been dubbed "in the mould of fred"

Can just imagine the chants otherwise (but I bet she's heard them all.).

But they are all illegitimate anyway! LOL! I wonder if the players will do a double take and hold their tongue instead of letting fly on a call from the line, with her there?

Another mould of "Fred" www.theworldgame.com.au/home/index.php?pid=st&cid=92331 A-League Champions Melbourne Victory have completed the signing of promising Brazilian youngster Leandro Love on a one-year loan deal from Japanese J-League side Vissel Kobe. Leandro, 21, has most recently been playing for Brazilian side Rio Branco in the Paulista State Championship. Victory coach Ernie Merrick insists Leandro will lend valuable support to Danny Allsopp and Archie Thompson in attack. "Leandro really fits the profile of the type of player we try to attract to Melbourne. He's young and quick and technically very sound. He also likes to take defender on and that's what we like in our strikers," he said. "It's important to realise that he's been signed as a back-up to the league's two top goal scorers, and he'll need to understand that." Leandro is expected to travel to Melbourne within the next two weeks, meaning he will be unavailable for the club's Pre-Season Cup clash with Perth Glory this weekend in Darwin.

Aren't all South American players signed this year, in the same mould as Fred? Perth look set to announce another player to their roster some time this week. The lateset rumour is that the player will be the recently released Milton Rodriguez, after he has been spotted their on 2 occasions recently.

Would be great if its true. Dose it feel to anyone else that the teams dont give a flying f*** about the pre season cup?

Would be great if its true. Dose it feel to anyone else that the teams dont give a flying f*** about the pre season cup? With the short season you'd think they would be keen to take it seriously and then hopefully hit the A-League in peak form. But with the short season a mediocre injury can easily last for a quarter of the whole comp so teams are also very keen to protect their players and take things easy. In terms of the (short) history, the winners of the PSC have generally gotten off to fairly average starts of the A-League. Remember last season, Melbourne didn't give any indication in the PSC that they would start the A-League with 9 straight wins or whatever it was. But to answer your question, yes, it does seem as though the other teams aren't really ready.

Seems to be the same vitriol from other clubs "its just a hit out blah blah" It should be accepted now as the most important part of a seasons build up.The regional areas that get games look forward to them and roll up to see top level football and thats what they should see. Nice point about past results brett I just hope we reverse our post PSC results from last season. By the same token I hope Wellington continue to be competitive and Sydney flounder like they currently are.

I would think, Given that the pre-season cup is one of only 2 pieces of silver available in a season, teams would be more interested in it. But i guess they would be more interested if there was some financial incentive.
That said the pre-season cup plays an important role in ensuring that the league is at reasonable quality from round 1 every year, important in a short season. Though, to me, that would seem another reason to take it seriously.

They are only playing it down because they are not yet organised.

They are only playing it down because they are not yet organised. Thats what I think as well. ATM We are one of the few clubs that pretty much have their squad full, and aren't trialling players.

Ivan Necevski has been injured and is facing a couple of months iin the sideline. Matthew Nash was their back-up keeper against the Nix, but I'm not sure whether or not he'll get offered a short-term contract.

Does the PSC count as a claim for selection as one of two Australian teams in the following season of ACL (particularly if there's a dual winner of the first-past-the-post comp and Grand Final)? From what I can remember when the ACL started this year with Sydney & Adelaide, it's the winner of the national domestic comp. (either GF winner or minor premiers) and/or winner of a national domestic knock out competition. As Australia doesn't have an equivalent of th FA Cup, would the PSC count then?
