Im not going to get into the whole respect argument, other than to say The Cove has respect for us, so we show respect back.
Newcastle fans have shown little to no respect for anyone but themselves, thus they get none in return.
I stood by Davids comments in 4-4-2 on the night of the interview, and I stand by them now still, and will continue to do so until something happens to make me think otherwise.

Read DJ's previous comment, that may shed some light.

OK timmy why would we respect Sydney and visa versa? We play an annual game between the 2 sets of fans for some fun and we have chant offs in the pub....for fun. Well it seems to me that some of yas have respect and some dont. Simple, Very ones different. Bear explained his view on the issue and i understand. My opinion maybe be different, but thats life. You can still have a rivalry without being a bunch of f***itts, to say we should hate Sydney fans because they support Sydney is just immature........When the Mariners play Sydney I want 3 points, I want to shout abuse at their players, I want to chant anti Sydney chants...........but at the end of the day it's all a bit of fun. i agree. And i tried to say that here

but why would you want respect with Sydney? They are our rivals, for both of us. We should hate them with a passion, Agreed, some people dont seem to understand this This is total BS boys. according to the two of you I should have no friends in the town I live in cause they all support the jets? Quite simply I hate the jets and I hate SFC, I hate any team that lines up against the mariners for the 90 minutes they are on the pitch, then they go back to being human beings and how I treat them is determined by their actions against everyone not just the Mariners. Fans are fans of their team, and while I don't agree with their choice they have a right to it, but that choice doesn't make them a d@#k or not, it's their actions that do.

To be honest, I think the "hate" thing in football support is overused & imagined by most. Hate is a very strong word & anyone that can actaully hate the supporters of another football team when the purpose of supporting is enjoyment, will have real problems on their hands when something comes up in life that could be a catyalist for the real thing. I call it competitiveness, just like we are when we play sport, & when it's over, so is the attitude. How can an individual disrespect or hate someone for doing nothing more than what they do themself? Sounds a bit twisted huh? Timmy, have a look at your forum, a close look, & see how many of the squadron, that would like others to think they are L.A hood members carrying switch blades, behave towards what they perceive as outsiders posting a comment, or even their own supporters that are silly or brave enough to have a difference of opinion. I've seen threads where you cop blasts of abuse yourself from your own members with the sulks, because they couldn't get their own way. Not a good impression mate. If the squadron doesn't get respect from others, it could well be because the imaginary hood members reap what they sow. Think about it.

If the squadron doesn't get respect from others, it could well be because the imaginary hood members reap what they sow. Think about it. it comes down to this notion of 'passion'. apparently, passion is only demonstrated by one style of support (euro ultra hoolie casual wannabe stuff) with all the assorted muck that goes with it. the colourful, the good humoured and the open-minded seems to have no place. there's this 'ultras mentality' thing going on that seems to be driven by too many people having seen too many youtube clips. you apparently aren't allowed to have banter, humour, colour, spontaneity. go to the football with a scarf over your mouth and a frown over your eyes and show nothing but hate to anyone other than an ultra... ...or grow up a little. 26 return trips to see my team play x 150 a pop means i've travelled 3900km, just to see home games. i'm ecstatic when we win, anything from numb, frustrated or furious when we lose. i make and break plans around the mariners to the extent i can, but i'm also (contrary to appearances) an adult with responsibilities and i can't just drop everything and tie a scarf around my head and go ultras crazy for 6 months a year. and i certainly won't belt into somebody simply because they're a sydney fan. there's a hell of a lot of fellas who follow sydney and are/were in the cove who were mates of mine before the A-League existed, and to suddenly hate them would be more plastic than any amount of half-time entertainment or sponsored banners could ever be.

I get called insane just for travelling up from Parramatta for games... which only takes me an hour on a good day, its the Fri arvo traffic thats the killer.

I get crap for going that far, the fact you go from here to CC is even more crazy. Liddell would be even worse for a friday night game, i remember it was hell travelling from Ravensworth.

I Generally am driving a little over 2 hours for a friday night game, granted some driving from sydney would be doing the same on a friday night.

It took me 1hr to go a whole 11km last Fri, all it takes is one crash on the F3, any where from Ourimbah down and all north bound traffic is in for a slow trip.

Mate i totally agree with you. And i meant this when i said "But in saying that, hate towards any other australian football support can only go so far. They do support that game that you love" Everyone is entitled to support their team in the own way. Its a matter of opinion.

Timmy, have a look at your forum, a close look, & see how many of the squadron, that would like others to think they are L.A hood members carrying switch blades, behave towards what they perceive as outsiders posting a comment, or even their own supporters that are silly or brave enough to have a difference of opinion. If the squadron doesn't get respect from others, it could well be because the imaginary hood members reap what they sow. Think about it. again sry for the typo lol I have to agree with you, but you have to understand that most of our members wont post on the forum due to that fact. There are a few peckerheads within our group, but they do alot for us in the squadron. we do our best to control them, but they do go to far sometimes. As Dibo said, people trying to bring in the Ultras culture into the league. Its a big problem within the squadron, but some things can be taken out of it and casue good for us. Take our Squadron Ultras banner, We arent Ultra's, far from it, But it is there to take the piss of some other groups and get people talking about us, and it works a treat. And i agree that people do get shot down for there different opinion by most, but not everybody. I myself listen to every ones opinion and make my own from the information i had revieced, but im only one person.
