Nurnberg sitting pretty - Reuters
Nurnberg made it maximum points from two games in the Bundesliga as an early diving header from Markus Schroth proved enough to give them a 1-0 win at home to Borussia Moenchengladbach on Friday night (Satursday AET).
Schroth hurled himself in front of the covering defender to butt the ball past Kasey Keller in the fifth minute, after Glauber had headed on a free kick from Jan Kristiansen.
Nurnberg were joint league leaders after the opening weekend, when they won 3-0 away to VfB Stuttgart, and they looked in the mood for a similar result as they tore at the Gladbach defence in the opening period.
The visitors were struggling to get in to the game but they almost grabbed an equaliser from nothing in the 14th minute, when Oliver Neuville controlled a long pass forward and lifted the ball past the keeper and just over the bar.
Gladbach had one more good chance, in the 50th minute, when Oliver Kirch smacked in a shot from the edge of the area.
Werder Bremen, last season's runners-up, are at home to Bayer Leverkusen in the pick of six games on Saturday (Sunday AET).
Bayern Munich, double-winners again last season, will aim to join Nurnberg on six points by winning away to Bochum on Sunday (Monday AET).

with the emailing, does it have to be in german or can we send in english? I doubt it would matter to be honest. Most Germans would possess the capabilities to at least decipher who is the intended recipient. In fact in my experience, quite a few of them have a better command of English than alot of native speakers here!

Today I watched the training. I took some photos I want to show you: During the warming up the assistant coach and later the first coach talked to both Meggzi and Dean. It took over five minutes. They are the only ones who got so much time from the coaches. Good to see them taken care of. The coach really believes in them. Since there are holidays at the moment in Bavaria about 250 people watched the training and about more than the half of the people were kids. Afterwards kids started hunting for the players. Everyone got attention! In the front you see Dean and in the back the big crowd is asking Michael for an autograph: Dean collected the balls and Michael carried them back. The didn't have to do that. They volunteered. Dean was the last to leave the training ground, because he didn't want to leave any kid unhappy. There was some boy who was about six years old. And he was yelling "That's Heffernan! That's Heffernan!" and running towards him for an autograph. The kids also threw themselves at them to take photos. I was also able to talk to Dean. He was happy that so many Marinators are still interested in how they do. I asked how he felt. And he said he's fine and is trying to get fit to the level here. During the training there was a match and both were playing really well. Michael will be part of the team tomorrow in Munich. Unfortunately Dean had to stay at home. But both will get their chance. Not just for minutes, even more. As written above the coaches are really watching and helping them. Also everyone else in the team.

I find it a little surreal seeing picture of the pair deep in conversation with the Nurnberg coaches. Can't wait to see them get some action.

On Saturday we reached a 0:0 in Munich. That was a small sensation. We started very good with a few chances, but at the last 30 minutes Munich created more and more pressure, but we had a good goalkeeper Roy Makaay, Munich's 20 Mio Euro goal getter missed a big chance. Unbelievable but true: www.youtube.com/watch?v=YcnstXUMACw ;D So were are still on top. Now we have a three weeks break because of the European Championship qualification and the German Cup. Next match is on September 16th. BTW we have two Young Socceroos/Australian U20 players on trial this week. It's Shaun Ontong and Matthew Spiranovic. They will both take part in a friendly match this Thursday against 2nd league's Fuerth. It's without all the internationals.

Spiranovic? For some reason I thought Melbourne was his destination. I've never seen him play but big things are expected of him. He is of Croatian heritage and the Croatian national team came in for him and offered him a place in their world cup squad in order to get him to defect. He assured them he was Aussie however and rejected their offer to take him to the WC (not that he would have played ) What an underhanded way in securing players though. Normally I wouldn't have been worried but after Simunic and Seric you never know! From all reports, Spiranovic should one day be big player for Australia. I know nothing of Ontong. The coaches have a taste for Aussies now do they?

I know nothing of Ontong. The coaches have a taste for Aussies now do they? Ontong was at the AIS in the 2003/2004 national youth league year, and from Jan this year: "25/01/2006: The Qantas Young Socceroo squad that will go into camp ahead of pening qualifying matches for the 2007 FIFA World Youth Championship. The squad is: Tando Velaphi (GK), Michael Marrone, Noel Bahnsen, Peter Eleftherakis, Matthew Spiranovic, Shaun Ontong, Christopher Nunes, Jimmy Downey, Troy Hearfield, Greg King, Chris Grossman, Nikita Rukavytsya, Dario Vidosic, Foad Comandari, Evan Berger, Alex Vrteski (GK), Robbie Kruse, Joel Allwright, Stephen Odor, Bruce Djite (all AIS), Matthew Smith (Sutherland Sharks, NSW), David Williams (Queensland Roar), Tarek Elrich (Newcastle Jets), Wade Oostendorp (Sydney FC), Mitchell Langerak (GK) (Across the Waves, Bundaberg), Nick Crossley (GK) (Richmond, Victoria), Goran Popovski (Sydney Olympic). www.google.com.au/search?domains=spirit.webcity.com.au&q=ontong&btnG=Click+to+search&sitesearch=spirit.webcity.com.au
