Alternative idea for charity collection - what if we could raise enough to pay for a family pass (GA) and get one of the players to present it to a family that would never be able to afford to go to games??

Absolutely love that idea ;D And as for the home run - from the 25th nov vs adelaide at bluetongue - we only leave home once, and thats playing newcastle, an easy hour or so up the freeway at energy australia stadium

keep religion out of it but i disagree about it being terribly offensive
people have lost their sense of humour these days

Funny how this country has swung MASSIVELY to the religious right. In fact, ANY satire of religion or conservatives seems to be a no-no these days, which is compete bulldust, but that's what we face right now.
10 years ago a Jesus parody would have been fine; sadly, not now. Anyone who watches the sublime "Bro' Town" on SBS can see how full satire can be extremely funny (I have NEVER seen Maori sledged so mercilessly or often).
I can see how the cross thing would be pretty funny, but unfortunately we cannot afford the bad publicity that would surely come out of such a stunt. I mean no offence to Omni, Greenpole or anyone else who objects; like them, I am just expressing my own opinion.
As for Shrek, yes I'd be happy to be do it. Question is, where do we get the right stuff from?
Regards,
AM

I would *love* to see Auburn dressed up as shrek! The ears should be easy enough to find - its the green bodypaint and the grampa shorts that we need to be on the hunt for...another idea we can use is the multi-coloured candy canes that turn up this time of year - has anyone seen blue and yellow ones? We can hand them out (with the flyers directing them to the next home game) ;D With the Blue and Yellow santa hats - maybe we can get organised earlier next year and find a way to do it, if we can get those fantasic marinators shirts together i'm sure we can get the hats done easy .

as said above, cross = easter, but otherwise i neither find it that funny nor offensive (from an atheist's perspective). just seems a little bit out of place.

This was posted on the forum about a week ago, check the link. post=1161869468] (DJ didn't post this someone called Goldjets/Goldstar????rowdy) Jesus is coming and he is bringing his disciples lol BTW for those of you who haven't had the pleasure of seeing this video of Jesus celebrating through the main street of Gosford after a Mariners win i believe you will be very entertained. There are guest appearances from Auburn mariner and even the bus which you will be travelling on too Newcastle. www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQIPw5i0xmIEnjoy...[/quote] Didn't see any of "you overtly offended religious people" blowing this post out of the water. Hypocrites or just a "BLAST4ME" ?? It's what i was looking at before I read this thread and gave me the idea for what I thought could be something "funny" for Kieran to dress up and do. And on the point of Kieran, aka "Jesus", if your all so offended why do you converse or tolerate a bloke on this forum who uses the username of "Jesus" ?? Why sing in Bay16 "we love you Jesus, we do" every time Kieran turns up or goes over and hassles out the opposition Omni and other offended, why don't you ask your church/es to rent us a flatbed truck for the day? Most churches propose to be charitable organisations and most churches have shit loads of money. Sure they'd be renting a truck for a football supporters group for a Xmas parade but what what's being proposed on here is that we would be subsequently raising money (probably more than the $100-$150 to rent the truck) which would then be forwarded on to another charitable organisation or as I said to buy some soccer balls for the many kid's on the coast that are unfortunate enough that their parents can't give them much for Xmas. And I concur w/ Dave. Hurry up and pass the bowl around I think i'm going to be politically and correctly sick.

The Club has agreed to lend our flat bed ute for the parade if you want. Please feel free to decorate in Mariner colours, maybe even drape the big flag I was talking about earlier over the bonnet. ;D I know Rowdy might be able to get some, but now the pressure is off as you have a guaranteed vehicle.(Well done the drummers) I can also organize to have the football balloons blown up with string fitted to hang off the vehicles on the day if you want as well. Maybe they could be given to the kids. Jeff please give me a call Thanks Charles CCLC

Rowdy, I think your idea and more importantly the 'intent' of the idea is a beauty! I wholeheartedly agree with Auburn however, especially the line "I can see how the cross thing would be pretty funny, but unfortunately we cannot afford the bad publicity that would surely come out of such a stunt.'' the thought of raising money is fantastic and I think we should go with it, Greenpoleffc's idea of somehow raising enough purchase a family season pass for a family who can't afford it is excellent, however, how do we decide on the family without offending? also, as Rowdy rightly pointed out, if we raise enough to purchase 50 footballs (Rebel sports to the rescue!) thats 50 families we help out rather than just 1
folks, there isn't much time left for this one, so we can't get special hats made etc, just bring your own wigs, bandanas, viking helmets, santa hats etc and as much yellow and blue as you can muster. Who can get some yellow & blue tinsel?
I have around 25 names so far and we'll have to keep it to 50 so if you haven't put your name down here yet....better hurry up!

i think footballs will go a long way to helping push the sport further to the people of the coast can you imagine, groups of kids kicking footballs that WE gave them around the park... hey.... i know you guys do a kick around before the home games sometimes, maybe we could aim for a bit more organised one for before the adelaide home game (the next home one) and advertise it during the parade, to get some families to come along and join in the pre-game fun Let them know that there is fun to be had before the game as well as the game itself Just a random idea whilst i'm supposed to be studying

Fair point about how to pick the "most deserving" family. A giveaway of footballs allows more kids to benefit and is simpler to do.
Will people who cant make it be able to contribute via direct credit to Marinators account??

Will people who cant make it be able to contribute via direct credit to Marinators account?? We already have that facility, maybe we could mention on these flyers that i'm making (or just straight on the website ) that if people wish to donate they can do so via the marinators website and maybe put a link on the main page to the bank details?

Roddy: I didn't watch the video (call me crazy but if I think I'm going to get offended by it I'm not going to watch it) and as such did not comment on it, I'm not esctatic about a guy going by the user name Jesus using the forum and don't refer to him as that name, but he's free to pick whatever name he wants, and I would have no qualms singing "we love you Jesus" but it wouldn't be in relation to the man on our forums, who I have nothing against, by the way.
As for churches having shitloads of money, sure some do, some churches are organisations that make alot of money, my church is not, and I would try and get a truck if we had one but we don't, sorry.
