This is a post in two parts across two threads – I started writing it for an entirely new thread but I didn’t want to kill another thread, so I decided to link them and build on them] I was thinking a little about next year (given that this season’s done and dusted…) and thinking about what we can do to build and develop. We need to develop our support. We have good numbers, a regular turnout, a core of people who’ve been there from the very beginning and a kind of culture of our own. We need to look at ways that we can build on what we’ve got, and make our support better both in terms of lifting the boys but also in terms of making great atmosphere and a spectacle that brings the punters back week after week. So not only do we lift the team, we become a more essential part of the show. This thread's about spectacle ideas, for song ideas, go here. Spectacle: Flags, banners, standards, scarves, clapping, jumping… anything we can do to be more visually interesting and encourage the rest of the crowd to be interesting is good. I’m mad keen for the jumping, and Keensy’s posted and I’ve tried to lead one jumping song in particular a few times with moderate success. It’s something that will take a little practice, not to mention a core of people who know exactly what’s going on and the patience to keep it rolling for a while. That particular song can be stretched out too – jumping, clapping, waving scarves etc… we shouldn’t be afraid to sometimes get the flags up and wave them during a song too. And more flags and more varied flags could give a form of colour and variety that we don’t have at the moment. Just don’t wave them in front of people who are watching the game *all the time*, else you’ll probably cop a gobful. If you’ve got any ideas for making more of a visual show, post them in here.

More Tifo - our display before the Adelaide game looked fantastic and it got a few people going "hey, this sokkah kaper looks like a bit o' fun and the kids are having a great time with all them there balloons - might come back next week". Seriously, _anything_ that makes the rest of the crowd go "whoa" and the players go "hey, that northern end is gonna get us home today" I'm all for. What we did against Adelaide, but more. _MOOOOOOORE_.

Would it be possible to get the same or similar agreements with the suppliers for Adelaide's tiffo display for multiple future games? Maybe if something could come about in that retrospect this could be a more frequent event.

True, but I didn't really mean to imply that for every game. Two idea's I have previously mentioned elsewhere include - Banner saying 'Welcome to Hell' - maybe after a few years when the Bay becomes 'Serveral Bays' so that the banner coud be bigger - or multiple banners/borads to make the message. Also a sign saying 'You've just been Marinatored' - when ever we score a goal would be good for this. With a good new striker to join the club this may be used quite a few times. Maybe also a chant of 'You've just been Marinatored'
The second idea came from a friend of mine.

The display against Adelaide did not come cheap, we are lucky that Jeff has the gift of the gab! Plus organising an event like the 1 that we did takes time and many hands to set up.
The people who went over to the stadium nice and early to set the whole thing up in the heat are the 1's who made it possible.
What I'm trying to get at is we need 1) people to come up with the ideas, and 2) people to help follow through their ideas and contribute to making the event possible.
Anyway, in terms of more visual effects lets work on the scarves, it's easy and won't cost every game. Leave the bigger displays to bigger games IMO as money doesn't grow on trees and we need to raise funds over the course of the season. 1 of the things we may look at doing in the off season is ordering marinator scarves for season 3, a yelllow scarf (not dodgy blue like we currently have) which we can wave high above us on game days.
Waving the flags more often is also a must, we do not wave these big boys anywhere near enough!

Definately think we leave the bigger costlier projects for big matchs. My guess would be finals, derbys and new years eve match.
Certainly those things need people to do some physical work as well as just coming up with the ideas.

Im with DJ, after seeing how much effort Jeff and the few others went to to set it up.All well and good to have ideas but in having an idea you also need to have commitment to actually follow through. Were going to work on a few things for the coming season and I think 1 of them should be a volunteer list of people who actually want to get stuck in and help rather than "yeah lets do this and that" share the load as after 2 years its been the same few putting their hands up.

Very Nice, more original flags and standards will make the bay look class

I would like to see more big banners that are specific to various opposition teams/players (humourous and tasteful, not offensive) and also to our own players.
For payment for these things we could perhaps take a leaf out of Sydney's book and have an ongoing financial target for the next purchase. If people know what they are working towards, as in the item and the cost, they are more likely to donate. At the moment I think some people have been reluctant because they know the money is going to the Marinators but not specifically what.
A series of uniform player standards wouldn't go astray in terms of what I'd like to see in the bay.

Yeh we've really taken to standards in the squadron and they look absolutely class. We have also made alot of flags and it is great to see all the different variety in the bay. Would be good if you guys got some too

No intention of walking around with the word s*it on a t shirt and I suspect a fair few others might feel the same :-)
Just love the back of the F3 one though.............brilliant - I want that one
The we all follow a Yellow football team one is tops too.
As for spectacles, maybe we reserve it for big games (Scum,Bling,NYE and finals) to keep it fresh and stop it becoming a chore for people.
I also suggest the sign on the back of bay 16 be duplicated across 15 and 17 (creating a vacuum)
Also..................more jumping. Melbournes' looked fantastic on the box on Sunday

Seriously coordinated....
If our injuries continue, you would have to write the players names in pencil so they could be changed every week :-)

At the games, most of us will wear Mariners official merch and it might not be good if we are seen to being flogging off "unofficial" gear at their expense.
Having said that, the "Yellow Football Team" one is certainly something people might wear away from the game (no official logos mind you - maybe a really small Central Coast NSW on the back).
If it was sold online or in CCLC there might not be too many problems??
A couple of years ago, some enterprising Fulham fans produced a line of FFCUK shirts that were rip offs of the FCUK brand. They would have got into heaps of trouble if the brand nazi's could have found them :-)
