I am not a victim mate but if people point the finger and point it in general directions people are going to take offence. I actually think noise wise we were ok.

Bay 16 is not, and should not try to be, a family environment. As to whether it should avoid being sexist that is a question for those involved.

The oh "insert place" name is so wonderful should be banned from stadiums. I'm sooooo sick of melbourne fans singing that 15 times a game and im so over it.

As to whether it should avoid being sexist that is a question for those involved. it should avoid being sexist - I don't expect a 'family' atmosphere and I know that some things slip in the excitement of the moment - but be aware of who is around you. We have a fair amount of female Marinators in bay 16 and we are ok with letting a lot of things slide. but the C***, F**** and T**** need to be left to times when you are 'out with the boys' not within earshot of many ladies

If we leave out everything that offends someone, you'd be left with "Mariners, cla-cla-clap" and "Lets go Mariners Lets Go"
I say if you want to sing it, start it up. If you don't want to sing it, don't join in. The preference of the majority and/or the most passionate will prevail in the end.

Given that its one song, and there are a growing number of females within the Bay then surly its not too much to ask to drop one tiny little song that offends so many, or add another verse switching things around

Sorry if I sound sexist, buy why is it every single time we get onto singing, the lady marinators ask for the swearing to stop?
People will swear if they want to swear. Thats it. It will NEVER change. I get frustrated and do it, probably a little bit to much. We dont sing "t*@$ out for the boys" anymore, as it was offensive, and I personally think its a stupid thing to sing, but asking for people to stop swearing, or saying particular words, will never happen.

you dont like the swearing, then f*** off. f*** what do you want the group to do, ask everyone if its ok to an particular song? If you want a family thing, go sit in the other bays when you go to an nightclub, do you ask for an playlist to be sms you to before you go in?

there's a difference between wanting a family environment and wanting to not alienate a good proportion of our home end - the tits fannies and mariners annoys the shit out of my partner, she's clearly not the only one, and in case anyone hasn't noticed there are plenty of other women/young girls around the bay.
unless we're gonna put a sign up saying 'marinators - women need not apply' i reckon we can make minor changes without the world ending.
this is all part of a process that's been going on for the last two years and will continue on - our songs will evolve and change over time as people decide they like other songs/lines better. to imagine there's something immutable or perfect about what we sing at any one time is to delude ourselves.

dont be silly bakery - you can sing what you like - just be aware that if you sing things like the ONE line that most, if not all, the female marinators are against ("T**s, f***ny and the mariners"), that it will sound bad as we are uncomfortable with it.

We're not asking for all swearing to stop, as that would make me in particular a massive hypocrite... But there is one word especially that many find extremely offensive and one song. Other than that I'm just as likely to swear my head off as the next person.

Yes, make minor changes, such as the c word. There is nothing better than seeing an female wearing some yellow and having a beer.

The song shits me not because the words "tits" and "fannies" upset me, but because it's a shit song... plus can anyone verify that the coast is actually full of tits and fannies? It's a bit misleading. please provide photo evidence to bakery5@hotmail.com

bakery - your argument about how 'if you want to have a family atmosphere, go sit in the other bays' falls short when you consider that EVERY bay can hear what's being sung. My main argument against swearing is that the swear words can generally be replaced with other words which have the exact same effect and don't offend anybody.....'get into 'em/bust 'em up' has the same effect as the other version, and nothing's lost by replacing the F word with 'bloody' in the final line of 'everywhere we go'. I personally don't care, I swear a lot myself, my only thought is that it's unnecessary. But then again I can't say I've ever heard anybody complaining about 'those filthy mouthed marinators' But in regards to that one particular song - if a large number of people find it offensive, then that's the point in singing it? We want to increase our numbers, not drive people away.

Can we say your shit when the goalkeeper kicks the ball? If you listen to Perth Glory home games, the Shed do it every time the away goalkeeper kicks the ball. In summary, where is the limit? What cant be said? What can be said?
