Let's try and calm down, folks. The purpose of the Marinators, correct me if I'm wrong, is to back up our team the Mariners. Now, we are all in Bay 16 because we are vocal and really want to show our spirit for the team. But Marinators yelling at each other profanities is DOWNRIGHT WRONG. For example at tonights match against the Roar, members from the front of the Bay started to yell and curse at the people at the back of the Bay for not joining in chants. It's simple. If people want to chant they will. If they don't because they are watching the game, let them enjoy it. Just as a note- For the guys at the front who thought the back rows did nothing, you are wrong. They contributed just as much as everyone else!

Storm in a tea cup.
It was plenty loud up the back, with a fair bit of singing. So much in fact that any profanities directed at us from down the front were a waste of effort, as we couldn't hear much noise coming up from down there (apart from Brett of course).
There was a period that was very quiet, but that was across the board, not any particular part of the bay.
Great to hear the whole stadium getting into it at one point. There should be more of that.

Great to hear the whole stadium getting into it at one point. There should be more of that. Right on Mr Celery! I had the northwest corner doing 'Mariners (clap clap clap)', but it's hard to get people to sing or chant anything beyond that. That's funny, 'cos we have lots of school-age kids in our area, and they're usually keen to get involved in the basic chanting and clapping.

Bay 16 was very sad. I think that there was alot of us expecting to lose due to missing players. Which was amplified by the shithouse refereeing.

They contributed just as much as everyone else! i was the one who fired up down the front, and it was mostly because when a few songs were started down the front, there were certain people at the back who were shaking their heads and generally indicating some sort of disapproval without actually starting something themselves. i therefore offered some not so polite advice that maybe they might want to start a song or two. wasn't aimed at people up the back in general, but i do think the cohesion and participation level was down on recent weeks. all in all though, was hardly a civil war, just one sharp-tongued comment.

we definately need more cohesion between the marinators. ive noticed that there are two core groups of marinators: a group that sit down the front that are the younger marinators and a group up the back which seem to be the older marinators. for future games both groups need to position themselves together because those that are sitting either between or equidistant from both groups like i was are often confused on which group to follow in chants and the quietness is generally due to confusion.

Hahahahaha, Civil War within the Marinators - that is the funniest, but at the same time incredibly wrong, topic line I've ever read. Any directed or misdirected comment today could solely be put down to everyone being disgustedly angry at the game, the referee, and the entire situation in general. I for one am thinking that "Lawrie McKinna's Yellow Army" is used way too much lately and that it's a "in moderation" chant - and being as angry as I was towards the end of the game I just groaned when it came up again, but I joined in anyway. I would have started my own chant today, but I've had a nasty chest infection and a worse ear infection all week and I was reduced to random bursts of yelling, and hardly the possessor of a song leading worthy voice. Chants that are going to and not going to work will be weeded out over time, and often within the first couple of times they are tried. In the end, The Bay is the ultimate judge. Seriously, severe anger like that which was expressed today (by many) was purely a result of the situation and nothing more.

I was feeling same as serious and was so livid at what was going on at the game i couldn't get enthused about the lawrie chant lata in the match i just wanted to yell not so nice things.I was shaking my head alot it wasn't at your efforts it was at the game. Hopefully having next week away will give everybody a chance to settle down the team will hopefully have more people coming back then then pulling out of the game.So we can all get real fired up for sydney i think a local away match is just what the marinators need rite now we just haven't sounded the same this yr except for rd1 when we beat sydney and all sing in unison like a travelling bay does it will lift moral.

After watching that performance, its pointless trying to start any positive chant after the game. more than half the people simply DONT feel like being positive. You clap your boys as they leave the pitch, and you leave yourself. Simple.
There was a LOT of passion in the bay last night, anyone who says different must have been somewhere else, or is ignorant. There is nothing wrong with being frustrated after a loss like that, and nothing wrong with not feeling like singing after it.

It f***ing pissed me off standing up and facing backwards to start chants and seeing the same people not joining in, regulars and non-regulars.
At times I intentionally made eye-contact with these people and gave them an encouraging grin and 'come on' motion as I sang the song to get them to sing but they just looked at me quizzically like I was some sort of deranged loon.
My question to them is - why the f*** would you even want to stand there? If you're not going to sing...it's much comfier sitting, and if you just want to watch, bay 16 is the worst view in the stadium!
Some people are coming up to me at games and posting on here saying 'well done, good on you' for the work on the megaphone yet other people seem to think things need to be more organic and then there's the people who resent being directed what to do and hate how regimented things are.
So Marinators - what the f*** do you want?
I'm this pissed off because TBH at the moment it's not even worth singing a song unless it's 'Reddy's a wanker', something right after we score, or one of the basic songs in the last 10 minutes of the game when we need a goal. Should we just sit down until then?
Civil war is ridiculous - we're all there (I hope) to support the team.
But there are two points - people, particularly some regulars, need to take back some personal responsibility for things and join every (or almost every) song, because someone else isn't going to sing it for you, and if you're not singing, the part-timer next to you isn't going to bother either.
And secondly, people just need to be downright honest about how they want the support to be coordinated (or uncoordinated). The best way to have everyone singing the same song is to lead from the front with a megaphone - simple. But if people hate this so much because its too formal and they won't sing then that's no good and we'll go back to starting songs randomly from the back or whatever. But we need to know.

Methinks that yesterday was a unique situation where there was so much passion and anger that co-ordinated songs weren't going to work from the red card onwards....... I know the last thought on my mind was another recitation of Lawrie McKinna's Yellow Army (in moderation). The more passionate songs and chants seemed to be anti-referee and anti-Qld, and that just happened to be the mood of the majority of the bay at the time.
I don't think any of us can deny that yesterday was quite possibly the angriest we've ever been at a Mariners game, and as such I think some unusual behaviour was to be expected.
I also think that when it comes to the co-ordinated songs, perhaps we've got to think about working with the mood of the bay at the time - which in itself is fairly easy to pick up on, just listen to the random comments made during the quiet periods......

But we need to know. /Vent Over the songs need to be coordinated and there needs to be an updated chant list and words that need to either be handed out or easily acceptable because people dont know some of the newer chants. we should probably hand out booklets with an updated chant list or if we dont want to be environmentally destructive, when we are in kendall bar warming up we should be able to display the words of some of the newer and more complicated chants on the screens if the cclc will allow us. Also I notice that the marinators website isnt exactly up to date with some or all of the chants. But with the older, more established chants, if people arent getting involved its inexcusable. its probably one of the worst performances from the fringes of bay 16 ive heard to be honest. I agree Brett most chants should be started from the megaphone but if its quiet anyone should be able to start a chant because it is one of the best feelings in the world starting a chant and it catching on and people singing what you started. but the megaphone is important for the call and response ones for instance as well as situational ones that are of response to what has happened on the field where it ends up out of time. That said with fringe occupants of bay 16, if you want to be starting chants you should get there earlier and get good positioning because its poor if every little corner of the bay has their own chant and the noise coming from bay 16 sounds horrible. But obviously managing a group of large people when there is a lot of noise and some of them have perhaps had too much alcohol is a difficult thing and some people will stubbornly resist following the core or even singing, but those people should ask themselves when they go and take their spot in bay 16 questions like "do I want to stand all match?" and "do I want to chant all match?" if the answer to either of these questions are no, then there are plenty of other bays to sit in

Noone. it effects our image as a group if all we do is go quiet, grumble to ourselves and refuse to join chants just out of anger of the football being played (which in my opinion the boys tried hard in the second half and we were exciting as always). we are a SUPPORTER group and the team really needs us to support, so it does mean singing and doing so in a style that would encourage them to play better. I understand how frustrating last nights game was, especially the poor poor performance by the Ref, but that does not excuse not cheering our boys when they thank the crowd, or trying to lift them a little with a chant or 2.

Im in bay 16 to support my team, feel their emotions, and role and react to whats happening, not act like some muppet dangling from string who is expected to sing every song. Nor will I sit here and be made feel guilty when I stop singing for a short time to have a dig at the ref for the performance he has put in. Fans dont come much more passionate than myself, but f***ed if im going to sit here and cop indirect shit because I dont join in to EVERY SINGLE f***IN MARINERS CHANT.
