I have not read the forum for a while but was taken back by this thread and the attitude of Golden Boy who was discussing players personal finances... the fact of the matter is Heff is worth much more than 40K in the A-League and when it comes to the German league I can assure you that you are way out of the ball park with the pathetic figure of 80K! It saddens me that the tall poppy syndrom is still alive and kicking here in Australia.... A regular game in Germany is like our A-League Grand Final every weekend, we are certainly not comparing apples with apples. A reliable source tells me that Dean was the fastest, strongest and the fittest that the Nuemburg has seen in 12 years and is of olympic standards, so Heff cant be all that bad.... And as far as Keesy is concerned maybe you can be left back next season! Why cant some of you be supportive to the players instead of so bloody negative?

steady on vader, i think you've misrepresented the rough consensus view here - i look at the posts and i pick that people are broadly a little sad that the guys are leaving but at the same time really proud of them.
and there's no point in pointing out strengths if you can't ackowledge weaknesses - tbh i think some of our late season good form was partly due to heff lifting his game in defence and making some cracking covering tackles. he addressed a weakness and got better.
this isn't tall poppy syndrome, it's honesty.

Dibo, I havent misinterpreted anything, certain people where discussing players personal finances, I dont think that its appropriate at all. I thought this forum is supposed to be about sport and fun not a guessing competition for what the players salaries are and what the members of forum think players are worth! Sometimes I do think there is an eliment of tall poppy syndrome in this forum hence why I seldom read it...
As for Keeny, you are entitled to your opinion as I am entitled to mine! Looking forward to seeing you on the field next year! You have big boots to fill you have to defend and kick 8 goals all at once... on top of that after each game not a hair on your head should be out of place!
Heff is one of the most humble players I have seen, he is always shifting the glory on to his team mates at any interview that I have seen him do, even though the media seems to be more interested in him than the mariners as a whole!

Of course Heff is a good player but im not going to just mention his 8 goals(which is an outstanding achievement), the massive space it leaves for meggsy to cover when he is dispossesed was an issue at times and i am only pointing that out

Sometimes I do think there is an eliment of tall poppy syndrome in this forum hence why I seldom read it... I also see the tall poppy syndrome here, in one person who thinks it's somehow up to them to tell other people what is and isn't appropriate to post. This forum is for discussion of the Central Coast Mariners. Player salaries, their strengths and weaknesses, player values aka the finances of our club, they all seem to fall under discussion of the club to me. The players we have are all top-notch blokes, and they would all bleed for the shirt, and we all love every one of them. But players come and go, this is a football club, a business, and they are the primary assets. I'm not trying to dehumanise them or anything like that, just saying that discussion and opinions relating to the players value or salaries are as relevant as any.

Dibo, I havent misinterpreted anything didn't say you did - i said you misrepresented the general view. i stand by my previous comment and i think tiger got you in one. on a forum we can all express views, agree/disagree or whatever, and hacking on someone because you don't think they've got a right to offer criticism is missing the point.

Bretto, you need to go ask your Mum what Tall Poppy Syndrome actually means.... Because if you knew what it meant you wouldnt say that I had it! Numb Nut. All I was saying is that one minute a player is a legend (when they are the under dog), then when they start doing well you all start picking players to bits, that is tall poppy syndrome... Anyway, I am going to get a life now and do some work.
If any of you are attending the awards night, why dont you tell Heff what you really think of him to his face, instead of hiding behind this forum... Your all a pack of loosers.

Your all a pack of loosers. It's " you're all a pack of losers". Looks like you're the numbnuts now. Anyway, I don't care what darf vader has said, I am going to speculate some more about the transfer fee. Total Football last night said that Heff is free to go and he wasn't under contract. This means no transfer fee. Didn't he extend his contract midway through the season?

Don't think so DJ, Neill Evans asked them both (what Mick just said) and they both agreed.
They also said that it would be a 1 year loan deal with an option to buy at the end.

They also said that it would be a 1 year loan deal with an option to buy at the end. That's correct - but there's still money involved for the mariners from the loan deal!

yeah, season long loans often have a small fee involved. so we might get, for example, $50k now, and nurnberg pay their wages for the whole year, then we either get the players back, or nurnberg buys them permanently for say, $1mil for both.
there's not much benefit in this though. either keep them or sell them now, not lose their services then get the $ value later.
i hope our club doesnt get pushed around by bigger fish just to keep a tag of 'we wont stand in the way of our players who can further their career elsewhere'.
