1st half- i really cant put my head around it. woeful, completely woeful
2nd- much better.
final thoughts, mariners were out coached and the scummers deserved their win. egmond has newc playing really well.
jedinak was ok for his debut, better then spencer. spencer should remain on that bench. the only player who looks like scoring is mori. and he only has one more game.
one off two things needs to happen in the off-season. 1. cleanout in coaching staff 2. cleanout in playing staff
lawrie has rested on the results of last year, very very poor recruitment, even if the team makes the finals, they wont win it. i am not calling for lawries head, just that he has to do something about turning this club into a force.

Hate to admit it but they outplayed us. Took the ball from us time and time again. I've bagged O'grady out in the past but we missed him tonight when he went off. Sully had a blinder Mori tried hard but had little to work off Hutcho made a difference but not enough Brown worked well all night Kwassy ditto I felt Vidmar had an ordinary game Not too sure about Jedinack he gave away too many free kicks but also showed some class We were just outplayed tonight
Credit to all the mariners fans who made the trip you came across loud and clear

You have to give credit to Newcastle, their attack is starting to look very dangerous when they're in the mood.
As for our boys, once again injuries didn't help matters one little bit, and we lacked a bit of spark in attack. Be nice to get Gumps and Tommy on the park together one of these days soon.
I thought the boys looked a little tired to be honest. One thing to consider is that they may be getting pretty bloody weary from so many away games (with a fairly depleted squad), coupled with the steamy conditions may not have helped. Caught out for pace at the back today.
I thought Jedinak and Porter did ok. Mori's goal was quite superb I thought.
Big ups to the travelling Marinators, you were well heard on the box.

One day we will have a fully fit squad! one day.
our defence was below par and we didn't control the midfield, we didn't deserve the win! simple as that.
at least Perth will take care of the scum next week and we should beat the knights. we should be in 4th when melbourne takes care of qld!

A depressing performance from the Mariners. The number of key players out certainly didn't help, but ultimately we were outplayed in pretty much every aspect of football. 3-1 reflects the game. For a while in the 2nd half we were playing well, even dominating, but that dropped off.
Those first 2 goals were absolutely appalling defence.
Jets stepped up tonight, we didn't. Credit to the Jets for turning their season around. If we keep playing like tonight we can kiss our finals hopes goodbye. Heck, after tonight I'm worried about New Zealand next week (you know we've always struggled against them).
And I can't help but think - what are we going to do for attack once we lose Mori?

I feel we really missed Gumps and Clarky tonight not to mention Pondeljak Spot on, Pondeljak's pace up front is needed. Petrie's a waste. Great duel between Brown and Griffiths, finished even. Spencer too slow now Need Gumps workrate and pace

How will Perth beat Newcastle given that today? Everyone has injuries, we need fresh legs, Newcastle did to us what we did to sides last season, work hard without the ball and don't defend one out. They one more ball defending in mid field than we did, last year they looked slow, this year we are looking slow. Out go Petrie, Spencer and Kwasnik, in come fresh legs.

I came into the stadium ten minutes late (courtesy of ridiculous ticket lines), and from the far corner to the Marinators I could very clearly hear 'Can you hear newcastle sing?' Could hear it very clearly, and it was the only thing I could hear.
So well done!
As for the game, too many of our players are becoming dead weight.
The other thing is, did anybody notice that when we stopped foulling the jets we started playing better? It seemed like we came out there for a rough, physical derby and focussed on that in the first half instead of our game and the Jets rose above that.

Positives:-
Away support (as usual) Brown making Griffiths look a tool Jedinak - impressive debut Danny Clarkie,Hutcho,Mrdja,Gumps and Tommy to come back fully fit
Newcastle thoroughly deserved the win. We were very ordinary and never really looked like we were going to compete.
Negatives: Spencer came on and immediately became the worst player on the pitch. Note the distinct lack of applause when he came on. The Newcastle crowd. Leave a local derby with 20 mins to go?? WTF.

One day we will have a fully fit squad! one day. Although perhaps not any day soon... From the A-League site MP3 post-match interview file. McKinna: "[O'Grady's] done his abductor muscle, his groin and probably his hamstring, so he's probably [out] six-to-eight weeks. Touch wood that it's not as bad, but that's what they're looking at now and he's done it pretty bad."

pipray, you obviously didnt notice o gradys ball chasing when he went in to an attacker who already had a man on him, allowing carle to run behind him to score their 2nd goal. it was bringing back memories of the perth away match.
sullys perfect ball to mori is the only thing keeping me from saying he played shit.
did anyone notice petrie's absence from the sideline? he has been playing well there but he was infield most of the time, and browny just wasnt getting himself up there to take on SP's role.
we need the work rate of tommy and gump's throughout the team. something needs to be done by lawrie. someone mentioned him just going off last season, and i agree.
making subs like last week... taking tommy p off when players like kwassie and vuko were playing hopeless. and putting the jedi on to start when it was his first game... although he played ok for a debut, he put his body on the line. all i can say is lucky we have danny to keep goals out, and mori to put goals in.

Some more general thoughts on todays game.
1. Nice to see some changes made by McKinna 2. Jedinak was owned first half by Carle - poor marking, poor takling and was pressured too much on the ball. But his 2nd half was better and his distribution was good - a lot better than anything from Spencer all year. 3. When they closed us down quickly in the first half, our mids paniced and the distribution was awfull!!! This needs to be sorted out!!!! 4. We should have done the same to them - get in their faces and close them down. Players like Carle and Okon had so much time on the ball they were pretty much walking it out from their backline. 5. Someone needs to teach the team how to mark their players and pick up runs off the ball!!!!! Both goals were down to poor marking. And all game long Griffiths and Carle were just peeling off defenders and no one even looked to pick them up!!! Wake up fellas!!!!!!!! 6. Kwasnik is awfull! Never looked like scoring, never looked like creating a chance, never linked up with his strike partner Mori, never tried to close down defenders playing the ball out from defence.

Jidinak good debut but looks a bit slow. I thought Vidmar did OK as well.
