Definetely need a longer season, not only for the players, but what the hell am I going to do for 6 months??? Plus, we're paying them 12 months, so I hope Kwassie mows my lawn for me and Lawrie helps me out in Football Manager.
I don't see why there couldn't of been 4 rounds. Three seems too uneven anyway.

Great to see good, flowing, attacking football, unlike last week. Hopefully, SP has hit form and gets top goal scorer.

Mariners sunk in spot kick storm
Grimsby Town encountered some stormy waters at Blundell Park on Tuesday, when Conference side Morecambe indulged in a spot of giant-killing.
After the two sides had drawn 1-1 after extra time, their LDV Vans Trophy tie was settled on penalties, with Morecambe running out 4-3 winners.
Mariners boss Russell Slade had fielded what was virtually a second-choice XI for this game, which was watched by a crowd of just 1,131.

Perhaps we should ask for special treament because of the sparse nature of the Westfields in our catchment area. I'm sure Lowy would understand for he wants the develpoment of A-league community spirit, surely. We've done our bit with appearances in Westfield Tuggerah a few times, and I fully agree with Douges that we have to go to the other 60% of the coast. Whoever sees Ben next take it up with him.

Is it Sunday yet??
I can't wait for when we are in the Asian Champions League and have midweek matches.
I predict a 3-2 win for the Mariners and a crowd of 8400 this Sunday.

Back to the Topic
This is tremendous news! I thought that the crowd numbers would grow gradually, but this may quickly spike it. For the people who were 50-50 about attending this should be a factor to tip going to the match as the number one choice. And then ofcourse, the Mariners will play their fantastic football, hopefully (didn't see much of it in Queensland), and keep people coming back. I don't know why they weren't doing this from the start if Queensland were. Next year the club should do the same sort of thing but offer it only to members to encourage season ticket and membership sales. Just one Hyundai would do. There would be many people who would not buy a season ticket because they would be unsure if they could attend every game. A huge prize like a car would sway a few thousand more people into spending the money and thus bolstering the Mariners coffers.
Oh, and please don't hijack threads and go comletely off-topic to too much of an extent, I'm not refering to just this thread but all. I don't mind levity, but sometimes it's taken too far, and is to the detriment, in my opinion, of the forums enjoyment to all.

With Mrdja back, hopefully we can get more from the plethora of chances created. He just needs to get one good touch on the one of the 15 or so chances that the midfield create and I think he's the kind of player that can. I also thought that Kwassy would of been, when you consider his NSWPL form, but.....

Yes, but on the other hand, why go to the match when you can watch it at home. We lose heaps of fans that way especially because we've had, on average, 59 inches of rain for our home matches.

2GO is having a pyjama party for the gimme five for kids and the Central Coast Mariners FC players will be making an appearance. I just heard that the mariners will be playing tunnel ball with the kiddys. I think attendees are expected to roll up in their PJs. They haven't said how many mariners will show up, though. It may be a good chance for some signatures. I'll ring Mariners HQ and ask how many will be there, if all I'll go along and get a signed ball for the raffle.

It would be good to have someone like Kasey Chambers to support. Man U have Simply Red. I saw him on Parkison one day. They talked about simply red and Man U got a big plug too. Also, when Russell Crowe goes to watch the Rabbitohs there's always a mention on the news. Bell is far from being a superstar but it's a start. Natalie Imbruglia grew up in Berkely Vale, now she'd be a good celebrity fan. And maybe a rival between her and Daniel Johns who would support Jest. But unfortunately I think Johns is into league. We do have Joe Marston et al, but that won't get non footballing kids, etc. into the stadium. Plus, I don't think Marston's singing voice would be what it used to be. I think Chambers supports Rugby Union anyway.

I reckon Queensland and Adelaide will draw, taking them both to 4 points, and the mighty Mariners will win taking us to 6 points and thus leading the comp outright. And I really hope NZ get up over Bling. Not only will that mean blingers not getting any points but the Jest will be outright last! Unfortunately, I doubt that Knights will beat Bling, even with the latter without key strikers Petrovski and Yorke.

Buy one any way. You'll always find someone you can sell it to before match if GeordieGlory doesn't show.

I know. I said that. I don't want to do away with the final series, for it will get in fans. That's what fans seem to want. What I am saying is that league standing, in my opinion, should get more respect than the final series. IMO winning the league will be a harder task than winning the final series. Or atleast a equally difficult, but different task. That's why when in 40 years time I want people to say in the 2011-2012 season Mariners secured their 7th double in a row. As apposed to their 7th grand final win, without any regard for the hard work it took to finish 1st in the league. Or another situation that I dopn't want is for Mariners fans to say to Sydney fans "we won the Premiership 3 years in a row" and for the blingers to retort "yeah, but we won the Final series three years in a row" and think that the latter easily overshadows the former. Which it seems to in the psyche of the Australian public. As is apparent in the titles minor and major premierships.

I understand that they're trying to making it as exciting as possible but that's not what I want to see. I don't want extra spice from undredogs trying to get the CL places. I want a traditional league with a cup. We don't have that so I hope we atleast have the league hold some of it's prestige by determining the CL teams. I know I wouldn't be driven away by a 21 round league title chase. But it seems going by what you say, that the average Australian fan needs alot of non-traditional spicing up of football. Maybe we should have cheerleaders. We could even get out Billy Idol, I hear he loves his footy. It just seems that the football isn't enough, there has to be a decisive match week in week out to hold the attention of the fans. Well, if that is the case, so be it. I want fans to come. But can we hold onto some tradition by having a big trophy for the Premiers. That seems to be the only consilation I'll get. Does anyone get what I'm trying to say?

WT: Even if the final series is just as fair a way to decide, my point is that the league should be the deciding factor. I wouldn't care if the final series was a fairer way of deciding. I get that some people in the country don't get Premiership winners but this is supposed to be football, but not as we know it. You say the 'minor' premiership will mean a lot to the team that wins it. It should mean a lot to everyone not just the winners. When historical records are looked upon for the A-league will people just look at the 'major' premiership winners for each season? Or will they give just as much credit to the Premiership winners? I hope the latter, but judging by what you said, and taking you as the archetypal new fan, it will only mean a lot to the team that wins it.
