Here is an idea, MAA to run an ad campaign with him in it, pictures of him after the accident, and him talking about how its obviously the wrong thing to do. Although I don't support sportsmen who get up to no good (plenty from other codes recently) I'd probably be happier if this was just left to be forgotten. For the sake of the Mariners. as would fans of the west coast eagles and other clubs who have done this wort of thing...something has to be done

It will be interesting to see how the club handle what (I think) is the 1st incident of this type they have faced. Precicely; it's only the first incident of this type that we know of...

Also, the higher profile that the HAL now enjoys, there is little chance of hushing something up IMHO

I tend to think that some incidents may slip under the media radar still for these HAL players, but yes, the profile has been raised in the last couple of seasons and news will come out more readily of incidents like this. Having met some of the Mariners, I have belief in what Lawrie looks for in a player and the 'no dickhead' policy. Won't eliminate the potential for further incidents but hopefully the character of the players will keep them out of trouble and doing the right thing by themselves and the club and its fans.

Yes, please - agreed. As long as it's one isolated incident, it will keep us more respectable than other codes, and can still be built on in a positive way, (eg. as an example/deterrent). No use making a big deal of a one-off.

Talking with a mum of a 20 year old who was done for DUI low range and they lost their license fo 12 months. O'Grady was high range and he got 3 months! It made me realise that there is a rule for one and a rule for another. If we are to use the O'Grady incident as an example to other then what is the lesson?
Young people there for the same offence DUI; low range learnt on the day that if you are a high profile soccer player with 4 barristers you can get off. These young people, first offence, with low range alcohol levels lost the ability to drive their cars for 12 months not 3 months.
Is the lesson drink more get less or take 4 barristers and pay if off for the rest of your life and get 3 months. Shame on the system - kids did not get the message they should of got on that day, only questions of an unfair system that targets people.
HIGH RANGE DUI is dangerous.

OGrady didn't get three months - he hasn't been sentenced yet. Like in all areas of the law if you get a good lawyer you will do better in court. Stringers has the best criminal lawyer on the Coast in Manny Condidas (sic) representing him so he will do well in sentencing. We cannot criticise Stringers in his sentence because he was able to secure a good lawyer. Also, we do not know the details of his court case so saying one rule for one, one rule for another is just erroneous.

I thought his license was suspended until further notice. yes, until sentencing, which is in August after he completes his traffic offenders program i noticed on the express that it was our old mate "dock no-one" who wrote the article on stringers' court case

20 year old person may well still be on Green P-Plates, where the rules are inherently different to full license before lawyers are taken into account.

I've known a couple of people done for Medium range. Their licenses were suspended until sentencing, which was 3 months. During that time they each did the offender's course dilligently and at the end of 3 months they were told they'd done enough. No legal representation either. To get 12mths for low-range, he must have either not shown enough initiative/remorse to the magistrate, had a bad record, or been on P's (with zero alcohol tolerance) ... i hope
