He would be a good signing for us. Would be great alongside Gumpey in the middle or could play up front when needed.
He was the reason we didn't win Grand final (apart from shit finishing).

If we're going to spend the money to bring Dwight over then surely we would be able to pick up somebody better than a 36yr old

with the squad we have plus possibly heff, owens and dwight we would win the competition! as long as we remain injury free (although it is not like we have had a problem in this area before

Does the Coast have enough nightclubs to keep Dwight happy? Why opt for a 36 yearold? Why is Dwight wanting to come back here - is he finding the going tough in the uK at his age? WOFTAM

Mete out justice................very good :-)
Sounds like a beat up doesnt it?
1) If he was going to come back to Australia and
2) If LK wanted him., we would
3) Put an offer to him
You could have made this story up using Thierry Henri too.

WOFTAM i would think that he would live in sydney he loves the lifestyle in australia, and as far as i know he isnt struggling in england, and has been made captain a few times. the 36 year old thing would be one of the potential reasons that lawrie wouldnt sign him

He scored against west brom over night Woop te do! So f**in what? Convince me about his workrate, minutes on the pitch, how hard he goes after the ball. He's an old man now, get over it his glory days are gone. We don;'t need him here. He will slow down our most effective part of our play - the midfield. If he came here it would be for all the wrong reasons. PR, crowd spinning, public appearances - all BS activities to put the club's name in lights. All a short term gain and we are better off getting younger decent players and winning games - that's what the people here wanna see, not some fri**in showman.

I dont think dwight is the ideal man. If we go marquee, i would like to see someone who is gonna score goals. I think we have a big enough central midfield already, with more wide mids required, some wide defence, and possibly a striker. You would have to go striker as marquee surely.

I've heard Andrew Cole's name thrown around not that long ago.

cole would be a better acquasition in my opinion Yeah I agree. Is just a bit younger than Dwight, and is still scoring regularly in the Premiership. I think Dwight is a more realistic signing, because COle is apparently still wanted by other EPL clubs, and Harry Redknapp is very reluctant to let him go, and he's not off contratc for another 18 months.

agreed cole would be a better player, but his name isnt as big as dwights is one of the best things about signing dwight is the off field benefits he would bring to the club- sponsorship dollars, bums on seats, media interest etc etc cole would do that as well but not to the scale that dwight would i see dwight in a similar role to beckham when he was signed by madrid. they got 2 for the price of one, a player + a marketing tool

the 36 year old thing would be one of the potential reasons that lawrie wouldnt sign him Tony Vidmar turns 37 in July. It sounds like a beat up story anyway, but who knows. Dwight was probably the perfect signing for Sydney in V1, he obviously brought massive bling and marketing pull in a city that is very expensive in the marketing, advertising and PR department. It's probably not really the case up here, I don't really think we need a marketing tool per se, in the Dwight mold. IMO Littbarski let Dwight run the show at SFC and appeased him by letting him play in that central midfield role that he also played with T&T, it's fairly obvious to me that was Dwight's preference, and he visibly walked around on egg shells in the leadup to the WC - perhaps understandably. As lazy and reluctant as he may have largely been, I still think he was the best player in the league, a cut above the rest, and he did add considerably in that role. But I wouldn't argue if he came here, as long as he played up front, and came for considerably less money than he did 2 years ago. If the price was right, fkn, yeah I'd take him. And you may see a different intensity too without his swansong WC around the corner. The age wouldn't worry me so much, he seems like a fairly fit guy, I reckon as one of 2 strikers he'd score goals out of his ass. Meh, whatever.

Don't the Central Coast Mariners already have Tony Vidmar as a marquee $igning?
Now I'm sure he would drop that status, but no one has actually mentioned that in here.
I agree that there's better quality for the price but are they willing to come here?

Cole would demand loads more than Yorke.Im in agreemant with some if Mr Singleton is going to volunteer to fund one there would be a few round bith better value for money IMO

I wouldn't want Yorke for the money he would demand, if the Mariners can fit Viddy under the cap and go for a more expensive player choose someone who will score goals and put bums on seats!
Personally I highly doubt Viddy will be going under the cap and will remain the marquee.
