Why won't Singo pay $600,000 for a... ..::BRAZILLIAN::.. ? Lawrie said that Singo hasn't talked to him in six months, so Singo probaly isn't aware of him.

One for you Dibo - two people misspell "Brazilian", having proper spelling on the previous page... Points I took out of the statement by our main man: - Expect more 'local talent' to fill roles next year (yeeeeeeeeeeeeeees) - Dwight Yorke will not be at the club. Fullstop. - Lawrie to Singo: leave the recruiting to us. Leave us your wallet too though… - Singos’ statement was not to be taken literally (obviously now) "I haven't spoken to John for six months and we will not be pursuing Dwight Yorke" LOL – 6 MONTHS?!! He’s obviously not someone who’s got much ‘sway’ at the club.

Reading the original piece again, I'm sure that article was just shoddy journalism, a slow day, a manufactured story. The key part for me is in the only place Singo is actually quoted;
In particular the first para, which if I'm reading that correctly is alluding (in a very subtle way) that the quotes that follow came from Singo when Yorke left...which was what, last June or July.
And no doubt when he was originally quoted, the journo asked something like, "so if McKinna wanted Yorke, would you consider helping to get him?"

I really do not know why any of you bother reading the Telegraph. I am even more amazed that when you do you believe what you read.

Singo has sway but the club is running like a proper organisation so the directors/sponsors don't have a direct link to the staff, and that's the way it should be. Singo's sway is at board and directorship level. When the lines get blurred you have the disaster that is Sydney FC.

I think it's a bit of a let down having Lawrie say that he hasn't spoken to John for six months. That article made it sound like they had been in regular contact, with Singo willing to pay for a big name to come to the club. I hope there still is a chance that Singo will fund a big marquee player such as DW, but I doubt it. I don't think the Heff situation will finish for ages. Heff probaly doesn't even know what he's going to do next season IMO. As ursus said don't read everything you read in the press! We already have a marquee signing in Tony Vidmar, personally I would rather use the cap to sign quality HAL players rather than fit Viddy under the cap who could be on anywhere between $200k - $250k? The Heff situation is out of our hands really until Nuremberg make a decision sometime this month, all Lawrie can do is wait and let Heff know that there's a spot waiting for him if he wants it. Lawrie isn't silly thou, he can only wait for so long before having to make a decision. Something else worth remembering is Nuremberg signing Beauchamp (again they make a decision this month) could perhaps get us up to $500k? in transfer fees?

500k would be more than half the cost for marquee which is great news for the club if they wanted a marquee. i think its better spent in marketing

I wonder what the FFA policy is on transfer fees. From the Dwight transfer and Sydney FC it seems as though the club gets to keep it.
For us $500k would be chucked straight into the coffers to help us stay afloat. Forget about investing in players or marketing.

But I think that is a lot more important than having someone like Dwight play a season for us.

Sunderland midfielder Dwight Yorke has confirmed his retirement from international football.
The 35-year-old captained Trinidad and Tobago in last year's World Cup but will retire from the side to concentrate on his club form.
Yorke said: "I believe the time is now right for me to concentrate on my career at Sunderland and hopefully win promotion to the Premiership."
The former Manchester United striker has gained 59 official caps for his country, scoring 26 in the process. He also played over 100 matches for Trinidad and Tobago which were not recognised as full internationals.
After initially retiring from international football in 2001, Yorke was tempted back to captain his country in their first World Cup appearance last year.
"It's been a great personal and professional honour to play and captain Trinidad and Tobago over the years," Yorke said.
"I would like to thank all my fellow team-mates from Trinidad and Tobago who have given me such support and our fantastic fans who are unique in the world."
