12 July 2007 Lively group takes care of off-field entertainment By BEN DREWE - Central West Daily
ENTERTAINMENT: The Marinators are set to return for this month’s A-League pre-season clash at Wade Park, ensuring a vibrant atmosphere at the game. SOCCER (sic): THE Marinators will return to Orange next Saturday for the Central Coast Mariners A-League pre-season cup game against Queensland Roar.
The group's antics should once again provide entertainment off the field as well as on.
The travelling Central Coast supporter group was a big hit at last year's game between the Mariners and Adelaide United.
They instigated a Mexican Wave late in the game that circumnavigated the ground as they tried to spur the Mariners on to score a late winner.
The Marinators brought a typically football-like atmosphere with their singing on the hill at the scoreboard end of Wade Park. A large contingent of supporters is expected from the Central Coast.
Tickets for the game are available from Ticketek with grandstand seating likely to sell-out fast.
Grandstand seats are $15, adults general admission $10, children $5 while a family pass consisting of two adults and two children is $25.

12 July 2007 Bathurst has stars in the making By Brendan Arrow - Western Advocate CENTRAL Coast Mariners coach Lawrie McKinna believes it is only a matter of time before Bathurst produces another star in the A-League soccer competition. Just one week before the Mariners clash against the Queensland Roar at Wade Park in Orange, McKinna said all of the facilities were already in place to develop talented players from the region into top grade footballers.
"I think there are ten or twelve thousand players out here and we've already got an academy set up here," he said.
While it is believed that living in country areas can be detrimental for aspiring footballer players, steps have already been taken to help regional players gain the same exposure as their metropolitan counterparts.
"We're are linked with Western Branch Football and maybe one day one of the kids from out here will come through the academy and go on to give them a pathway to the Mariners," McKinna said.
Already the Central West has had a hand in the development of a number of international football stars, like Archie Thompson and more recently Nathan Burns.
However, the Mariners mentor said he held talks with Western Branch Regional Manager of Coaching and Development Richard Evans on how to continue player development in the region.
"We were just talking about inviting a couple kids down next year for a week's training on the coast," McKinna said.
Speaking at a Bathurst '75-Western training camp for children aged six to 12, McKinna explained developing players early is vital in helping them progress further in the future.
"Up the coast we, out of all the A-League clubs, we do the most grassroot football," he said.
"It is just so important that kids get out and have a good time, get to know who the players are and realise these guys at one stage were doing soccer clinics themselves."
The Mariners coach added football seems to be going for strength-to-strength with the A-League entering it's third year as Australia's top competition.
"I know the numbers at grassroots level are just steadily improving all the time, so it is definitely filtering down," he said.
McKinna and his Mariners squad will return to Bathurst next Thursday to hold their own training clinic at Proctor Park at 4pm.
McKinna is hoping he and his players can pass on their knowledge to some of the stars of the future.
"Everybody has come from grassroots so it is just important that kids can put a face to it and see a pathway through to becoming a professional footballer," he said.
"And maybe one day someone might be identified like a Nathan Burns."
------------------------ Another is Aaron Downes - with Oz Olyroos. Go Bathurst 75 - go you blues!
