I have to agree with the whingers on this one The fact that memberships were purchased with entry to this game included means that all members, particularly those with reserved seats, have reason to be a little upset. I say a little upset, because there are plenty of positives in this too, and I don't think anyone here has indicated they will be ripping up their membership or some such! I also agree with Mariner Freak...there were some poor form comments here. If people are good enough to comment intelligently and reasonably from their own point of view, they deserve the same in return, not just to be written off for going against the club. I think in the 'big picture' treating paying members as well as possible, or at least living up to the promises made to them with their membership, is more important than letting in people for free. In saying all that I am personally looking forward to the night and introducing some fence sitters to a free game! Not looking forward to a particularly productive Bay 16 because of all the extras that will be in there looking cool but this game will be more about catching up, watching the boys and cleaning out the cobwebs with the odd chant.

its still a really good deal in my opinion and even with this free game anyone who bought a membership should out ahead

Yeah too right. I would pay $170-$180 for a membership just because of the convenience of having a card rather than getting tickets or lining up.

In the OP I decided to bite my tongue about my annoyance about having paid for something which is now free or potentially missing our seats (so have to decide between platinum and Bay 16 as an alternative ) ... or even being cynical about the club suspecting that for a PRE-SEASON (that's right) match vs. newcomer NZers, Wellington, there mightn't have been much more gate over the already collected season tix money - so what was there to lose? With the rest of the day to consider it I'm much more positive about what the Club's doing, both for the community / charity opportunity and as a chance to attract anybody new or half-committed. Last season, unexpectedly, we were all posted out free, tickets (our reserved seats - so not otherwise issueable if we didn't make it) to both the PSC Semi and Final, which WEREN'T part of what our memberships included. (and the letter says they'll do it again). Don't tell me they're not trying to do their best by the members wherever possible. I hope it's generally felt fair to agree with Lawrie's press-release that the members "will understand" about this position for this one Phoenix game.

If its something so minor, why are all you people STILL having a cry. Its 1 game, GET OVER IT!!! Big picture is its for a charity, we may attract more fans, who may become season ticket holders, and to be honest, if your going to get the shits with something so petty as losing your usual seat IF someone is sitting in it already, sit in the seat next to it, or the one next to that, or not at all. Have your cry, and leave. There are people out there willing to support the team, and the charity, at the same time. Again, as I said before... WAKE UP.

I'm not saying it couldn't have been done differently, or that the gold / platinum members have some cause to raise their eyebrows, but thats about it. All I'm saying is, look at the positive to come out of your percieved downfall. Brett, another reference to '16'? I'm looking forward to seeing as many people as possible (hopefully 'newbies') in bays 13 -19 (or 'The Bay' ) as possible!

I'm the same as Pete, I have work training commitments so I cannot attend.
I think that this is a good initiative by the CCMFC. I hope that thousands is raised for Charity. The idea of 8-10k being there is exciting for the remainder of the season.
I also think that this is a very good thread AND that some people are annoyed about a perceived seating problem for a pre-season game. This makes me think that members really value their memberships of our beloved Mariners, which must be a positive.
And, I should add, that by country standards, Orange's Wade Park is a good facility for those that make the short trip up to the beautiful high country for July 21.

Hmmm. all of a sudden 'some of us' are not allowed an opinion it would seem. How so? I think if anything I am advocating that - don't be so precious Where is the "opinion" in the two posts from marinermick in response to something I have written? One pointed out a trivial "fact" about getting a free ticket to the game in Orange, the other quite simply a tongue-in-cheek post.

. interesting debate, but i think the members have been hard done by
. my cynical view is that this slight ... um, snubbing ... of the members (reserved seating) has more to do with time pressures than anything. originally membership details were to be ready in march, then april, letters eventually arrived towards the end of may. i feel if the club was ready to give tickets to those that have paid for their reserved seats as promised then they would have done so
. i am not happy about POSSIBLY losing my seat, even for one game - i have already had it for two years now and intend to hold it forever
. the annoying thing is that i will have to get there really early and queue to ensure i get a seat i want
. it is interesting how many of the marinators are giving reserved seatholders a hard time as last season there was a lot of complaint about 'undesirables' in bay 16 - and that is in the general admission area. there seems to be a different view now towards those that contribute more, financially, to the club
. please don't use the charity as a reason for all these arguments - i do not need a game of footbal to convince me to donate to a worthy charity and of course in the past this has also been incorporated into a 'normal' game day
. i just think there were better ways in which reserved seat holders could have been looked after if time had been available and they should feel agrieved for not being provided what was promised to them

If you want your reserved seat, get in there early and you can still have it, or a better one.
