Great work by the boys tonight, some beautiful football played tonight - although in the 2nd half I think Wellington were actually the better team. And were they actually fitter than us? Thank god for that crossbar!! Man, we're looking good this season. We're really getting it together. Bloody beautiful. universalmind - all fair points, but are you criticising the number of people at the match, the number of people in bay 16, or how those in bay 16 behave (ie those who don't get involved)? You port seemed to drift between the three. While the more established posters will naturally get more respect than some relative unknowns (well....depends on the poster ) , particularly when making controversial posts, as long as you show an interest as a fan and provide reasoning and solutions then I don't think anybody could accuse you of trolling, nor should anybody hold your post count against you all three to be quite honest!!! in particular consideration bay 16. chants start from the back, but dickheads from the front have their own idea and ruin everything. i rarely get into the stadium in time to get a good seat in bay 16 (usually try and fit one too many beers in) but 'advocate' any chant that comes from the back. i quite honestly think we need a reform of the bay and need to approach ccm. i point my finger towards the 'glory seekers' who take up the standing position of those who are passionate. i owould like to express my view and help as much as i can, but one voice is simply not enough - i want every game to feel like sydney away was. Chants start from whoever starts them. If it is quiet, then it is open for anyone in the bay to start a chant. Again while im unknown as a poster probably more so than universalmind, this is just my opinion. But I guess if it is that much of an issue, bay 16 probably should be reformed and a bit more organisation may be required.

The reality of the matter is that we need to have a core group of at least 20 leaving the Kendall by 50 minutes before kickoff and no later - Permboy, Dru, myself, my gf, and Murphs wandered over ay 7.15 to find the bay half full already, 80% of the people non color wearing blow ins, and 99.999999% of them being emo teens. By the time all of the chant starters and drummers and what not were in position, there was no chance of getting a cohesive bay going. 2 solutions: i). We send a core group over 50 minutes before kickoff, or everyone goes over in one big hit. It's only booze guys, it will be there post game as well. ii). We get some sort of organised/reserved seating going on. I really don't want to go through another home season having a shit makeup in the bay that really only gets into it for the derby's....... there's no reason we can't be like last week for every game, but seriously, the blow ins have got to go. There's 50 something other bays to pick from.

Any one notice at the post match function Booginho looked like he was limping slightly. Hope it was just a bit of soreness and nothing serious.

universalmind - we have tried several things to try and get the blowins standing and getting into it, as well as having more cohesion in the chants, standing etc - so far none have had a great deal of success.
The problem I can see with, say, reserved seating, is that then the bay will just have the hardcore fans, and nobody else. So instead of having, say, 200 people getting into it and 100 picking their noses, you're just going to have the same 200 getting into it and 100 people somewhere else picking their noses. So really are we going to be any better off? It seems that the only thing it'll achieve will be to put less numbers in Bay 16 - and we're struggling enough for numbers as it is. I don't know how to increase the numbers...
Going over early could help...
Yeah I noticed he was limping a bit after the match.....

Not good if something is wrong with Boogs. If thats the case id say we are at crisis levels in the centre back position because Clark is easily injured these days. how many need to be unavaliable to make a short term signing there? or alternatively can McAndrew play in the CB position?

Nick Mrdja is WICKED! Vidmar gave a masterclass in defending. Osman and Hutchinson unsung heroes both doing a terrific professional job. Petrovski worked harder then I ever thought he could. This week's version of Adam Kwasnik was the real deal - last year he would have hit the ball over the top not into the net. And Heffernan looked every inch a left sided wing back perfectly suited to the Socceroos. Boorgard still has the P plates on but a great prospect, Vukovic worries me - given that the defence is so good he hardly has a shot to save you would think he would practice his kicking .

"thank god for the crossbar!" - if the ball hits the crossbar or the post it has missed. There is no such thing as being saved by the woodwork. The shot has missed. The assumption is that it was only a fraction away from being a goal but equally if it missed by the same amount on the other side of the woodword it wouldn't have hit the poast at all, would it?

Brilliant game to be a part of, although I'd say the atmosphere wasn't as superb as Sydney last week, but the boy's played brilliant, our defense is terrific, plenty of excellent opportunities set up by the Mariners, we were unlucky not to put a few more in the back of the net. Would've been great for Mrdja to get a hattrick!
and about the Bay, my mates and I (all mid-teens) have been there in yellow every game since midway through season one, all pretty mad football fans and have noticed the ever growing problem of people who don't chant, or wear yellow, and some frankly have no bloody idea what's going on in the game. I like the idea of you pre-game drinkers to maybe finish a bit earlier and come get the seats in the top half of the bay. Anyway, I have no problems with any sort of mariners fan, just when they sit with the yellow vocal group and arn't vocal , or yellow. (don't think that makes sense) in other news,
WE ARE TOP OF THE LEAGUE, say WE ARE TOP OF THE LEAGUE! Sorry if I drifted away from the threads topic a bit

The issue of reserved seating is not just a decision for the Mariners, we would have to negotiate this with the Stadium and the Club.
My children and I did arrived 50 minutes before kickoff, and there were some people already in the Bay, but there were also a lot of empty seats.
I must disagree with earlier posts, I thought that the Bay was alright last night. Some of the experienced Bay residents have moved on, meaning a younger and less experienced crowd. Still, there were many songs and a lot of fun, reduced somewhat by the ejection of the imcomparable Jesus for throwing a beer (a new rule that Security has advised is here to stay).
The two morons in the Storm and Qld State of Origin Super League jumpers who were also ejected is probably a good catalyst to revisit the issue of reserved seating. It is done at the Sydney Football Stadium for the Cove, and we may make some polite enquiries in coming days.
From my usual spot at the back of the Bay, it appears that the passionate & loud group frequent the back of the Bay with the less-educated down the front. Is this actually the case?
I would point out that were a LOT of emo's and middle teenagers there last night, more than I can remember previously.
Overall, a fair start, and please: be patient.
EDIT: Oh yes, I would like to acknowledge our special Bay guests last night: Bob Marley, Bobby Petta, Bjork and Paris Hilton (who has obviously been on the Elvis "thankyouverymuuuch" cheeseburger diet). Ah, just an average night in the Bay; superstars, goals, emos, (VERY)yummy mummies, shhhkippy poofs, angst-ridden glamourous teenage females, what more could you ask??
Regards,
AM

Regarding support:
I was asked before the game what crowd I thought would be good - I said 8K would be poor, 10k would be good. So it came in as satisfactory. We do need to get that regular crowd above 10k very soon - it is a shame that we don't have games to build on for 2 rounds.
I was not in the somewhat isolated media box last night as we had an invasion of Kiwi meedja. I was hosting a writer from Canberra and we were out in bay 7. From that vantage point I can make too observations:
The Bays - looked good (too much red, and white, of course), sounded great if not continuous. The well known songs were loudest, and I particularly enjoyed Yellow, Yellow except it died too early.
Bay 6 and 7 were not as good as last season - needs work.

Personally, I thought bay 16 was very lethargic last night. I believe this was a combination of no tension in the game and far too many emo teeny boppers who obviously missed the bus to Erina Fair. They just shit me, no colours, no interest in the game
Aub, I agree with you, those dickheads in the storm shirts had to go quickly.
Reserved places are the ideal solution (a la the Cove) but I suspect the club would hesitate. After the passion and noise at SFC, I felt a little let down TBH.
Simplest solution is to get their early. As for the beers, send people on beer runs!! I know its more expensive, but some creative people around me had some of that "magic" coca cola. You know, with the special flavouring that smells like JB.
The club could easily make the top half of 14,15 & 16 GA members only. No effort required at all really.

But still 40, and still SMOKIN Also Auburn and Jeff, I believe we absolutly MUST have some sort of reserved seating for the back 3 rows of bay 16. Its only a matter of time before I get a little to angry with an emo and do a little cutting of my own
