LMAO at jets fans now admitting how screwed they are and resorting to trying to bring other fans down with them.
Elrich and Jardel totally different scenarios as explained well by others above.

massive difference jardel is your marquee (big dollars), drug-f***ed, fat, 34 years of age and has had three years of obscurity if we take a risk on elrich we don't outlay a lot of cash and further tarnish our soiled reputation Its not as different as you seme to think 3 years of obscurity = same as elrich before fulham he didnt play a game for a whole year due to disagreements with an asian club (i forget the name of the club) I think elrich would be a good risk to take. Even for a team like the mariners who have started on such a high. I am humoured at the differing responses between Jardel and Elrich. so he has been out of the game for the same length of time

Im not bringing other fans down. In fact when i was at the Mariners v Wellington game i complimented how good the mariners played (despite how bad wellington played) One guy had a chat to me about a-league etc... the next best response i got out of a mariner fan was "You're gay" Im obviously coming across wrong.

even so, what will Jardel bring to the Australian game over the course of the next few years!? Ahmad can lift the quality by adding another young socceroo to the HAL, endevouring for a spot in international team! Both are gambles, both have a lot to prove. I agree Elrich has a better chance of improving from 3 years off. Jardel if he gets to his best (PLEASE NOTE THE "IF") is a much better player then Elrich.

Well to me it is humurous to compare Jardel and Elrich. Jardel = marquee player Elrich = player under the cap Jardel = value for money should mean on-field success and bums on seats Elrich = value for money should mean a bargain if he recaptures old form, a minor outlay down the dun if he doesn't Jardel = needing to fill the boots of Nick Carle, Milton and Coveny Elrich = coming into an already successful team and can grow into the team Jardel = 34, drug f***ed, too overweight to even get on the field Elrich = 26, long term injury (Nik Mrdja was out for two years and look at him now! Same with Boogs) Jardel = GVE didn't even want him at Jets Elrich = McKinna has been at a club with a player and therefore knows his ability AND personality (we don't sign players with the wrong attitude) So yeah, it's a risk. Some of us think it's worth taking, others don't. That's fine. But to compare the situations of Jardel and Elrich as similar... Are you avin a larf? (Is he avin a larf?)

I wouldnt get too carried away about Elrich and his EPL credentials.
He played 1 (maybe 2) meaningless cup games and by all accounts was laughed off the pitch and is generally reckoned to be one of the worst players ever to play for the club (and there is some stiff competition there let me tell you).
He was then farmed out on loan to some Norwegian 2nd division side.
To give you some idea of how appallingly out of his depth he was, his knee injury was greeted with a reasonable amount of relief that he wouldnt get anywhere near the 1st team again.
I also note that St Guus took a few looks at him and then dropped him from the WC squad too.
Maybe on a "pay as you play" basis he might be worth a punt but thats about it given the severity of his injury.
I hope he proves me completely wrong and comes in and does a wonderful job. his record in Korea and UK indicates that he wont.

Sydney unofficial all seem envious. Some wishing FC had got him. If we can afford it definitely worth a gamble. A-League is a fair way from EPL in standard. This move hopefully will give him a chance to regain his form and develop. Something that can be difficult to do when you are thrown in the deep end. As other promising youngsters have found out. Could be an inspired buy. You've gotta be in it to win it.

It is a risk, but one nowhere the size of Jardel (no pun intended).
If he does prove to be successful we would have the best attacking force in the league.
Even if he doesn't prove to be that successful, we still have a large list of players that could easily take his spot in the starting XI. E.g Owens or Tommy.
IMO, if there is room under the cap; no fitness/injury problems and Lawrie is sure he won't cause any problems here, why not?

To have someone like Elrich come into the squad, and then have a marquee player on top of that (assuming Vidmar leaves next year) then I think it is a pretty damn good signing.
IN all honesty elrich is a great player who got an unfortunate injury at just he wrong time. If he didn't get injured he would haev been int he World Cup squad no question

Also, isn't there the issue of having to pay a transfer fee? He is still contracted to Fulham, even though he wasn't given a squad number.

I think FFC are happy to pay him off (current contract ends in 06/08).
As for Jardel, Newcastle playmaker with a drug problem eh?? If the Knights put their head in the oven would Con??

Reported salary at Fulham around 5,000stg a week He's gong to have to take a massive pay cut, if he is going to join us. Correct me if i'm I'm wrong, but doesn't that equal to AU$650,000 a year. That's almost a third of the salary cap!
