Fair point about the crowd numbers being up, but personally I won't be happy until we are getting 15k+ for EVERY game think everyone's expectation are too lofty given the coast only has a population of 300000 Not sure about that one - the thuggery league (allegedly) gets crowds of around 15k to the stadium, and that's with different teams every time, and travelling fans. Maybe they are fudging the numbers because the if that crowd from yesterday was at a league game they would have probably counted it as 16k Anyway, if they can (allegedly) get a regular 15k to a shit sport then the most supported sport in the world should shit that in every week.

Reading the Terrorgraph today, Lyall said something at the press conference about "our coach will not be used as a political pawn" or something like that.
Anyone got the word on what went on at the press conference??

Anyone got the word on what went on at the press conference?? i got to the press conference late so only saw the end when i got there the media were waiting outside instead of the usual press room where they can set up their microphones and computers the press seemed upset because security were dicking them around they decided en-masse out of protest not to ask any questions in the official press conference but to do it outside with the coaches was actually quite funny sitting there with the media and the fox cameras and nothing was happening ron smith did his interview outside the press conference room but when they asked for lawrie lyall came out and said that lawrie will not be doing interviews i don't know the full story but kevrenor can enligthen us when he gets on

Hey, congrats to bay 16 and surrounds for the great vocals!! It's the loudest and proudest I've heard from everyone, especially from bay 6. My kids got involved. Hopefully against the Jets, we'll get the whole stadium in with the "yellow army/mariners" chant. Good stuff.
Matt.

Anyone on the coast wanting to attend one of these league matches only has 2or3 opportunities a year, whereas walk-up crowds for the mariners are spread over the whole season. A comparison between NRL and A-league crowds is probably only relevant in a place like Newcastle, where you have a home team in both.

I reckon the whole stadium would have been impressed with it last night and "instruction" and prompting over the p.a. could be the go (with credit where it's due to the Marinators ) Need something for the Jets. The Squadron claim they're pretty hot ATM.

By that Sunday, they could have slipped down a little, but we'll still be top.

Did anyone notice how kwassie got carded the other week for picking up the ball during a free kick. He picked it up and went to put it on the spot for the other team and got carded, well a perth player did that at about the 80th miniute this week and no card. whats the go? is it an offence of not?

You can even get carded if you do it to prevent the other team from wasting time

From the laws: Delaying the restart of play Referees must caution players who delay the restart of play by tactics such as: • taking a free kick from the wrong position with the sole intention of forcing the referee to order a retake • appearing to take a throw-in but suddenly leaving it to one of his team-mates to take • kicking the ball away or carrying it away with the hands after the referee has stopped play • excessively delaying the taking of a throw-in or free kick • delaying leaving the fi eld of play when being substituted • provoking a confrontation by deliberately touching the ball after the referee has stopped play
That last point is why touching the ball - even if you're just putting it on the spot - can earn yourself a card. This does tend to cause a lot of conflict, hence FIFA are trying to say 'just mind your own business and leave the ball' - but then players are allowed to return a nearby ball, and considering it isn't something that's heavily enforced, and naturally you're going to have inconsistent interpretation - but that's the reasoning instead.
I thought this match was going to wind up a draw - and we seemed to have a lot of 'kick and pray' balls from the midfield up to the strikers.
I can't help but wonder if our boys got a little put off by all the shirt pulling and pushing in the back that was occurring (and usually let go).....
There were a few times when we definitely missed Vidmar's experience in the backs, but we still held together pretty well at the backs -though there were a few tense moments, and perhaps once or twice when Perth probably should've scored but just fumbled it right in the goalmouth.
Does anybody else think that when we were running the ball from the mids to the strikers, often we just seemed to hold onto the ball too long? I remember a few times when everybody around me was screaming to just kick it, put a quick through ball through while the marking defenders were momentarily on the wrong foot, or even a quick switch, but we just held onto it way too long, thus allowing their defence to calm down and organise (while on the move). There were a few times when all of our strikers would've been in a great position to take off the moment the ball went through, but by the time it eventually came the marking defender had it sussed out and easily intercepted.

Would sound brilliant and teach them how to sing/chant. Once the've done it once or twice they should get into it. any way we can get that sorted?

Well I thought we were very ordinary against Perth and were lucky to get the win. Still its the sign of a good team to win when you play so poorly.
Thank christ Gumpy came on and immediately showed the boys how to play Football...along the ground. Once he came on we were a much better side and once we scored we started to dominate.
If like Fish suggests, benching Gumps was to fire him up, then it was a masterstroke and I hope we reap the rewards. If it was for any other reason then please Lawrie don't ever make that mistake again. I have never, ever, seen us play well without him and the bottom line is you keep don't keep your best player on the bench when the others (Jedi excepted...he was superb as usual) were floudering. We should have been 2.0 down if they had any decent strikers and even Andre couldn't have salvaged the game. I would also like to see Gumps play alongside Jedi in the middle as that would be the best midfield pairing in the A-League. Looking forward to getting Viddie back as Clarky looks shaky for mine.
I thought the Marinators were excellent this game and the Yellow Army/Mariners chant was brilliant. Give yourselfs a pat on the back!!

Esp as Muscat did exactly the same thing but got nothing. Top of the table clash between Us and the Scum in 2 weeks! Could be 1 of the most passionate derbies ever, esp if we lose or draw this week, and they win....means they could go top (god forbid)
