. curious sounds about right sadly enough
. surely it would have been easy for the ffa to come out and say: the yellow card was given for dissent (whether it was or not) and then take the other issue further (as not being addressed)
. that way they could have saved face and taken appropriate action which would send a good message to the masses
. i cannot believe that they would not have envisaged such negative publicity/sentiment, yet they still take no action

he clenches his jaw as he starts his backhander. he pulls it as he realises what he's about to do, but makes contact all the same. unintentional like f***. tbh - i'm not sure whether the jets can/should do anything 'right' on this, i'm leaning towards the conclusion that they should have simply said nothing at all and if quizzed they should have replied 'it's a matter for the FFA'. i don't think it is up to the clubs themselves to police on-field behaviour, because for a start that removes some of the responsibility from the FFA. but it also undermines the authority of the match officials because they're essentially saying the officials haven't punished him enough. goes for mrdja as well. as for o'grady - i'm sure the club and the player came to their own understanding after that. i don't recall if there was a fine or other punishment made public. watching football fever last night robbie slater finally made an excellent point on the griffiths affair and the inability of the referee to back his assistant he said "c'mon guys, how do you expect us to back the match officials when you won't back your own!" . i think it is not the only area they have let themselves down in this regard - they have muddied the waters by the way they treat the players . too often you see them (players & officials) patting one another on the back and all that sort of stuff . don't use names, its too personal and friendly - players have numbers and the referee is sir. but there should be NO physical contact (except maybe a handshake before and after the game)

. just watched the clip again - unintentional my arse!
. proves that if he has a brain it does not control his actions
. i can see this getting even worse as the jets use the charity thing as a photo opportunity

A bizarre decision from what I thought was one of the better refereeing performances. You have to be kidding. Numerous bad decisions. 11 fouls - 1 yellow card 16 fouls - 6 yellow cards. Simple maths take 10 away from the fouls and you get yellow cards. . and what does simple maths have to do with refereeing decisions?

. haven't seen a video yet, but live at the ground i thought he was given a yellow for having a go at the AR (verbal)
. i still think that this how the incident has been addressed
. if physical contact was made (or even a threat) I cannot believe that anybody would consider a yellow sufficient, so believe that particular act has not been addressed at all
. even if the guy (AR) is carrying around titanium rocks, they aren't in a punching bag. true, he may not have made much of it at the time but from what everybody is saying the AR won't want to see the video and probably won't feel to good about the way his employer is taking no action .... call in workcover!

Why not gumps down to right back? He has been playing fairly defensively, is fast, and works hard. Could handle the job. Clarkey in the middle for sure. . gumpy at the back worries me - he is not a defender and if beaten tends to give the tactical foul . don't get me wrong, i love the guy and think he reads the game better than most but when you are the last line of defence and you don't have size to help you out and hide a couple of indiscretions i think tactical fouls will soon become red and nasty . if you were to go that way i think tommy would be a better option (although still not to my liking) but their attacking flair is likley to get either of them caught out of position

wow i saw an ep of csi like that.. I dont think thats appropriate to chant about at the game though. So it's okay to do it about Adelaide but not Newcastle?? . there is a statutory period before you can start making fun about these sorts of things . private discussions only, please not in chants

. nice article especially the start - that's the way to build up the popularity of the sport which obviously would bring more dollars which would allow the league to improve
. at least there are few of the 'average punters' and those that are the subject of a-league marketting that would see it
. maybe thinking like this (cut from his article): "what are we left with here? Should we try to promote our own or import more affordable foreigners" should be applied to positions such as his
. admittedly my watching of the world game is diminishing, but i do recall a few weeks ago when they had francis awarawotsizname on and orsatti had just bagged out the mariners in an intro. as francis gave him a right serving the camera panned away to see orsatti shaking his head in disgust - it cracked me up
. i think they are just trying to maintain their niche audience

Yowza. His latest one arguing for the scrapping of the salary cap is a bit of a shocker. He points out that only one club has gone out the back door - NZ Knights. Why was that, Les? Maybe something to do with loss after loss after loss after loss for two years? Give Melbourne and the other big city teams the advantage of a salary cap 3 times the size of the smaller clubs, and it won't be long before we go out the same way. I actually agree that the NRL has become boretown 101 with no real favourites or consistently 'big' clubs any more, but the A-League NEEDS to have that equality, to give clubs like the Mariners their time in the sun as we are currently enjoying, for quite a few years yet. . great idea, remove the salary cap! then lets see what happens: . those that think they can afford it will spend up big . after a while they will become competitive, as they spend more they start to dominate . the smaller clubs will go broke trying to remain competitive . there will be no consistency in personnel so no passion, no support, no interest . the remaining clubs will keep spending until they go broke . the a league will collapse in a heap . some knob in the media will then say it was because australian coaches and players are not good enough and that the game had become boring and predictable - wait a minute, that sounds a bit familiar ...... . or if we get down to two teams it will be great! just like state of orgin - except both teams will be full of brazilians - that oughta make a few people happy

I can see why some of you take it as complimentary, but I take it as rather patronising myself... . agree, its the subtle comments like ' apparently he is doing it again' - like for some unknown reason we are top of the league. it has happened but he doesn't really understand how

Or...finally...we get to see the 3-5-2! . now this is what we were talking about last year . a back 3 of wilko, boogs and viddie is a 'proper' back 3, as opposed to ossie & heff who are the 'wingback/attacking' defenders . pick your best team and play them in their rightful position or play a 'system' where you inevitably have somebody playing out of position . may end up with wilko on the right & heff on the left but that doesn't have the same balance as we currenlty enjoy with attacking options on both sides

Heffernen and Petrovski's cards were so stupid on the weekend. They were needless as Perth would not have gained that much more attcking opportunity. . especially petrovski: he had probably 3 hacks/shirt-grabs in the one play all right in front of the ref ... ok he was blind, but not that blind . seems his reputation is well founded, his other yellow (i think against sydney) was similar . as for heff, he was frustrated at being turned and i think he would have got his man through pace before he became a threat, his yellow against sydney was childish as well

Clarke into the middle with the armband. lawrie hinted clarky at yesterday's press conference choices are diminishing for the armband would certainly be out of clarky, gumpy or sash, possibly danny as a smokey interesting that viddy did not give it to anyone when he came off . yeah i was watching when he came off, he was playing with it a fair bit . i thought we would get a clue as to who would wear it next week, but he just adjusted it and walked off

Personally i'm not surprised that Nik won't play this weekend. Kwassy to get two goals this weekend. . all reports i have seen say that it is knee soreness nik is suffering from in his dodgy knee - i would not expect them to risk having him on field for a long time if this is the case (it is still only round 5) . don't want to push it and have him out for god knows how long . sash's injury could mean similar things

If you can believe the propaganda in today's football fever, Sasho is a 60:40 chance of being OK, and Mrdja is expected to need 2 weeks' rest..... if you can believe the propaganda in football fever From what I've heard this is pretty accurate (Sasho should be ok), but Lawrie could have a little surprise for us on Sunday..........you'll have to watch this space . redmayne to start in goals? . danny to wear the armband up front with ..... the heff?

I hope Mat Simon was watching Mori like you were Marinermick. If you are an up and coming striker who wants to learn the craft from one of te best in Australia who would you want to learn from. Mat Simon can take his time watch the games focusing on the movements of Mori, re-watch them with the tapes and learn from them and put them into practice. In the same way we believe Nigel is lucky to have Viddy at practice where he can pick his brains and learn, Mat Simon should be taking the same opportunity to learn from Mori it would be nice to have another young striker in the squad with simon as there has never been a better opportunity to learn from the masters (mori, petrovski) as now the tuition he must get from these two must be amazing mckinna and fergie were midfielders and tobin was a back so it is nice to have that coaching balance in the squad . i thought uncle lawrie was a striker? just not with the playing career fergie & tobes enjoyed

Found this interesting excerpt from near the start of this month when trawling through articles on Foxsports. This was before the socceroos call up and such. Makes it all seem a bit predictable looking back Meanwhile McKinna has revealed how on-fire striker Nik Mrdja is still having to work constantly on the knee that has left his A-League career on hold for most of the past two seasons. While the Mariners squad toiled away in their first session of the new week yesterday Mrdja was cooling his heels in the pool. "We don't want to get to a stage where, because we're training him the same as everyone else, he needs a week or two off," McKinna said yesterday. "Monday is usually a hard day so we ease him through - he does a swimming session and then he's right for the rest of the week. "We'd rather just nurse him through so as the season goes on he gets stronger. It's usually just the first session of the week - his knee gets a wee bit tender. We have to monitor him so that we don't load him up too much." . so you mean the socceroos management are to blame for niki's injury ..... ie. it was being managed at home, but pushed too hard when in camp?
