. i was thinking of the injury thing today with all the other teams complaining about their number of injuries in the press
. not blaming wilko but in 2 years he didn't miss a minute and everybody else was suffering but with wilko's recent injury evrybody else is sweet
. its still funny to hear culina talking about sydney's depth - which he quickly follows up with 'but wait till we have everybody fit - we are the best then'
. i believe they would have been close to full strength tonight too (except the midget)

. wellington up to 3rd - good on 'em
. and sydney .... last with no wins from four (what a team, what a club)
. but from the sportal comments sounds like wellington were under plenty of pressure

There was less bias in the commentary in the Aus V Argies game- where there f***ing should be bias! . yeah i think with all the lusting over messi, it was probably a bit messy in the commentary box by the end of the game

. completion of round 21:
. mariners/premiers 21 x 3 = 63 points
. everybody else equal second - decided by magnitude of loss to mariners (21 x 1) - (3 x 1) = 18 points
. it seems true the brazilians will make a difference in this league
. 4 point lead after 2 rounds cracks me up

omni, agree to an extent . but if closeness to the venue was an excuse for not showing the game 'properly' then why was the Easts vs. Knights game given a decent viewing
. the crowd figures in the club for the football would have been pretty high as well i think judging by the number of people that asked if it was showing on a decent size screen
. maybe instead of spending $80 or so per couple for a night at the club this money could be put to foxtel - not very social or community minded though

charles: . i know the club (and specifically yourself) has(have) done a lot for football supporters over the last couple of years - was just a bit dissapointed that is all
. i am not sure how many tvs were showing the game but we could only find the one following my request and judging from the number of requests coming from other patrons and that staff were generally unaware i am suprised you mentioned so many screens
. i am sure in the past there has been a sign up on the parking and/or staff at the driveway providing advice/directions, again disappointed that is all - it was getting dangerous in the carpark
. i was not aware of the featured game issue but suppose i have become accustomed to turning up and seeing the game that matters the most
. i can only imagine how difficult it is to try and satisfy everybody just seemed there was NO thought given to the football
. but thanks again for your work and for responding on the forum
. oh and the game is more than 3 years old

. nah recky, it was under the stairs out the back near the eating area
. parking situation was also an embarrassment, nothing to indicate the parking was full other than a full carpark, so by the time you reached the dead end on the roof you had a string of cars banked up behind you and couldn't reverse to get out
. the staff at the door didn't seem to care when it was raised either

. was not a happy evening at CCLC
. when i arrived the only place showing the football was behind the bar and to my disgust in the smoking section - i was not aware this was later changed as well
. i did manage to convince one of the managers to change a tv to the football but is was a small tv in a corridor - fantastic for viewing pleasure (and if i hadn't persisted it probably would not have been shown at all apparently)
. yes i can understand the league getting priority in a 'leagues club' but the popularity of the football is reflected in the attendance figures - i can't imagine them not showing the cricket in similar circumstances
. as it tunrs out there were quite a number of football fans asking if this was the only place to watch the football in the club and quite a number ended up sitting on the floor, in the corridor, to squint at a small screen as people continually walked past and/or stood in the way
. i suspect the priority given to the other codes may have had more to do with betting than anything else
. i also know there were a number that left the club without watching the game

Other codes don't necessarily take all points and give a massive fine for a salary cap breach. I think it also depends on how bad the breach(es) were. We all remember the Bulldogs having all their points taken away and given a huge fine in 2002. Carlton in the same year lost all their points, had a huge fine and lost draft picks. But apparently six (NRL) clubs were fined for minor infractions in 2003. The NZ Warriors were fined $100k in 2001. And after it came out they had breaches in 2004 and 2005, they were fined $430k and had 4 points taken off them in 2006. I thought I heard something about Essendon earlier this year being fined but can't seem to dig up any details. So it doesn't seem like it's always a case of taking all their points and handing out a massive fine... but maybe it should? adz, i am not sure of all the details but: . how many of these teams with 'minor infractions' went on to win the comp? . how many of those that lost all their points, are likely to have gone on to win the comp? . did sydney win the comp whilst they were in breach? . did sydney already had a suspended penalty? . were sydney found guilty of multiple breaches? . should a multiple offender be let off so lightly? . three points is proving to have nil effect on the outcome of the season ie. no actual penalty and is therefore hardly a deterent . remember the whole competition is based on the salary cap - sydney should be hung out to dry and the mariners should take their rightful place as holders of the dunny seat & be on our way to the champions league

. how the hell does this work ? it asks more questions than it answers . the release from the ffa says the breaches (yes plural) relates only to last season - can we expect more of the same after they are handed another toilet seat and another champions league berth ? . how can they have their penalty reduced and partially suspended again ? . some bloody message they are sending . it is clear that the ffa could learn from the nrl (ohhh imagine that) - breach of salary cap, means loss of points won ie. all of the points won whilst breaching the conditions . at this rate, what does the future hold - continual breaches, continually reduced/suspended penalties that really don't penalise the team breaching the rules and obviously does nothing for the opposition . if the trend continues, they will cop another point or two each year, but if it doesn't put them out of the finals, champions league, etc they are not likely to be too concerned . i also find it hard to believe melbourne would have copped such a soft penalty . but probably the most important question is: have sydney still been breaching the rules this year ? . also the penalty has been reduced because of the full cooperation of the board, but it seems to be the same issues which were investigated previously - so obviously something has been held back at some stage . after all this ranting, i am back where i started - how the hell does this work ? . the ffa should start a second division specifically to send sydney there - they would probably like knowing they will win the league (as the only participant)

. interesting, one of the girls at work lived in townsville for a few of years (her hubby is in the army) . she said it was practically unbearable in summer (heat and humidity) and was followed by a month or so of constant rain around feb. . would hope that the stadium is in this weird micro-climate that you speak of, wouldn't want any mariners dropping through heat exhaustion

. roar have set themselves for a monopoly or a fall from grace with any future name change . the article does have some positive comments about the mariners - who would have thought eh! . foreigner - i think (i am sure many will disagree) tassie is a good idea but i hope that wouldn't mean switching allegiances . i still think another vic. team would be warranted, but tassie could stand up like the coast in a national competition (other than cricket) and generate a bit of support with no previous ties

. fair enough, but isn't nth qld still on the east coast . would have thought another vic. team would be on the cards - current crowds, population, state league strength considered . but admittedly my knowledge is light in this area (& nsl history)

. true he does draw attention to himself and the league, but is that the right sort of attention . do we want to be inundated with rugby league types coming to watch some argy-bargy and the odd nasty off the ball incident? . we have enough injury problems as it is . however the mariners intensity did seem to drop off as well when MuchCat was sent from the field (never liked the guy personally)

. agree with offtheball
. he is a kid, making a decision about his future and what he wants out of his career
. with limited 'life experience' you tend to take advice from those who should know, that is, your agent - that is why you have one
. how many kids of that age make mistakes they regret or don't work out with regard to career, life or love. many would also be having second thoughts if they saw some of these comments - would you want to sign if this is what the 'vocal' fans are saying about you
