Welcome to the start-up Central Coast Mariners FC fans forum.
It is expected that fans will come from not only the Gosford and Wyong areas, but also from across the northern side of Sydney, Lake Macquarie, Newcastle, and further afield. Some are expected to be ex Breakers or Spirit fans, whilst others may not have gone to NSL at all! Please welcome fellow fans not matter what area they are from, or former club they supported.
As well as an area on the forum for the Mariners, the State League side Central Coast have an area, and you can discuss other football (soccer) topics.
With our new club accepted into the Hyundai A-League (new national football competition) there has been about six months before a ball is kicked in serious competition - plenty of time for fans to air their views on the league, club, players, other clubs and fans, our stadium, security, beer, etc. When the games start we expect more on the games, players, coach, formations, tactics etc.
There is only limited moderation at present - including me, the Admin, but later we will look for some likely lads or lasses. Please make that job easy by adhering to Proboards rules, and to this forum's:
- No racial or ethic hatred or incitement - No sexual or gender abuse of any kind - No threats or gratuitous abuse - Keep the swear words to less than half your sentence - look up a dictionary or thesaurus instead! - No totally obscene or revolting images - Keep on topic for each area of the board. - Have some respect for other fans views (even from other clubs) and their right to hold them
(amended 1/6/2005) to also contain:
- No personal abuse - No libel or defamation
Got that? Posts will be removed. Banning will not be done lightly, but will be done!
Guests can view all posts, but only members can create threads and post to the board!
There are many ways of reviewing the Forum - Click on last post, use the last 10 posts, go to the forum and the topic and browse, or use the search function!
Please provide feedback to improve the forum.
Thank you
Admin
Go Coast!

you know, I have just thought to myself that the CC do not deserve a place in the APL. As a small catchment, they should be excluded from the APL. We will wait to see what happens. I have changed my mind concerning the value of the CC in the new league. DJ

Work it through. Say that you offer the seven largest cities in Australia/New Zealand a spot. That is, in order, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Auckland, Newcastle.
Then solicit bids from every other city in the area. Realistically, less than 100,000 is too small as support base - the Gippsland Falcons / Eastern Pride showed that, I think. So that's:
Wellington, Gold Coast, Canberra, Central Coast, Wollongong, Far North Queensland (and that is generous ... only by drawing on surrounding areas would Townsville or Cairns seperately get over the mark).
NZ only want to put one bid in, Gold Coast, Canberra, Wollongong, and FNQ do not bid. That leaves only one urban area over 200,000 that is not represented in the comp, the Central Coast.
Plus as markets go, its not a bad one for soccer.

Crap Stats do not make'eth a good Football Supporter Bruce. ! Usually, you need to get out of bed for about 20 years and maybe catch a train to edensor park.
I had look at your most recent crowd figures bruce, and all that I could conclude is that you are probably insane. DJ

DJ, read my comments on the other thread as to why this venture will succeed.
You could not possibly have any credibility in your comments unless you live in the area and know how much people are screaming out for a national sporting team on the coast.
Welcome to the site Andre - hope you will continue to contribute and maybe make the Mariners your team in Australia. After all we have Alex Tobin playing for us!

Has to be the Mariners
The stuff that came from Sydney FC today just made them look like a big bunch of wankers.
They are going to be the most hated team in the comp

Looks like Doumanis was playing funny buggers. The whole thing sounded scripted.
One of the things which will be good about being a Mariners fan is our somewhat unique position in the corridor between Sydney and Newcastle, giving both us the opportunity to easily travel away for at least 2 away games, and Sydney and Newcastle fans the opportunity to come to us.
Combined with what I believe to be a great stadium, it is not unreasonable to suspect it could end up being one of the best venues for atmosphere in the league, early on.
This place is crying out for a league, and I for one am very happy it ended up being a soccer club.
I will be curious to see what type of crowds are drawn, but it seems that coasties are not afraid of showing community patriotism.
This area has the 6th highest number of registered players in the NSW fed, with around 12,000 players. With a good marketing campaign, I would expect this could be tapped, and combined with Breakers fans, Spirit fans and general sports enthusiasts keen on live action, I am hoping this joint will see 15,000 or above, and maintain it.
And when you factor in travelling fans from Sydney and Newcastle, perhaps more.

Hi Guys, Congratulations on the new site, I am confident Australian Soccer has made a decision that they will be proud of in the years to come. The CC area has been screaming for some sort of national team identity that they can call their own. I am convinced that both the NRL & ARU will very soon regret their recent decisions on this area. I look forward to a Sunday afternoon in years to come with a capacity local derby crowd, chanting the names of some of our local juniors, bring it on I cant wait. PS Did someone mention St George somewhere "get a life mate" were on here to discuss the future of Australian soccer not the depressing past.

Crap Stats do not make'eth a good Football Supporter Bruce. ! Usually, you need to get out of bed for about 20 years and maybe catch a train to edensor park. ... This is the most defeatist attitude I can imagine. It is just a way of saying no new club WILL succeed because no new club CAN succeed because a new club will not have "real" supporters. But every big club in the world today was a new club at some time in the past, so the evidence is that it IS possible to establish a new club SOMEHOW. The constructive approach is to ask HOW. I did not put up crowd figures, so I do not know how you had a look at them. I put up urban areas in order of population. ... the order in Australia, down to the 200,000 level, is: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Newcastle, Gold Coast, Canberra, Central Coast, Wollongong. And as the Central Coast is growing faster than Canberra, on present trends it will go up the list. I am sorry if that does not coincide with your assumptions, but since you appear to be a Sydneysider, by now you should have become used to the world not matching up with your assumptions.

Great to see the Mariners have a message board up and running Definitely in a good position demographically to take advantage of the CC and also the Northern fringes of Sydney are only around 30mins away and the juniors there Edit: To the person about getting a train to Edensor park...hmmm may be a touch hard minus a rail line past Stade de donkey

Good work Simon. Great to see you finally have a team to support. Hopefully it will relive some of the old glory Breakers days

Hopefully it will relive some of the old glory Breakers days I don't think Simon actually subscribes yet, but as he now lives in Sydney he will be torn between Sydney FC and CCM. I suspect he will throw his support behind CCM. Especially as he hates Newcastle Uknighted!

Did the breakers have any glory days? Any supporter knows that its the experience at the ground, and yes ...when they were making a run for the playoffs and getting the ground nearly 80% full, it was great fun.

They were the only domestic Club that got the Mexican Wave going around the ground! The atmosphere was always fantastic. The Breakers in their former iteration won the NSL Cup.
