Saso was playing in the a side that played boring negative football. Milton plays for a cavalier team who's luck hasnt run out yet

Well i rate Milton much higher then Sasho however the team who supports him (lets face it, when they are on fire they are easily the best in this league) would have to take alot of credit for this aswell.
However I feel Sydney relied on Petrovski for goals and also Brosque towards the end of the season when he found form. However our team had much more of a spread, (Mark Bridge 8 goals), (Milton Rodriguez 7 goals), (Joel Griffiths 7 goals), (Nick Carle 4 goals) and (Vaughn Coveny 4 goals).
I know you guys bag Kwasnik but he did get 7 goals which is a fair effort and up there with our strikers. The difference between the two clubs is that we have alot of other players supporting with more goals. Maybe you should look less at Kwasnik and more at those around him who should also be chipping in with some goals.
Greenpole I really think you are being unfair with the luck statement and it takes away from what our coaching staff and players have achieved. The old saying goes "you make your own luck" and that is what our boys have been doing they are playing really well and results are going our way.
I really hope it is a Newcastle v Melbourne grandfinal as they have both been the most successful clubs of AV2. Melbourne has taken domestic football to a new level and Newcastle (carrying on from you guys last year) have proven that game can work in regional areas. Now imagine ACL matches at EAS it will be a dream come true if we can pull it off today and we definately deserve it.
FINGERS CROSSED!!!

keensy hmmmmmmmmmm rodriguez has played 300 minutes more football than sasho this year and only scored two more goals than him. I would say the stats favour Sasho slightly. Maybe you should do some reasearch before posting and sounding like a prat The point I am making is that we only need a player up front to be confident of putting the ball in the back of the net, like Mori did. Nothing more fancy than that. And agreed Milton is classy and scores goals but long term he is never going to stay in Australia but instead chase the money overseas. Sasho much better option for next year and long term.

Flying Jets is one of the more intelligent Jets fans here, as proven by his last post. But I can't accept the Jets have been the 2nd most successful club this season, that honour goes to Adelaide, after all they did come 2nd, just because they choke in finals, remember that Newcastle's 2-0 last week was their first finals win in all competitions, and Adelaide have actually won trophies. If we take Milton that's another international in the squad, and we may as well keep the options open there, we never know what might come up and you don't want to use the full quota, then again we are on two at the moment (if Petrie doesn't retire) so we can have a third. People forget that Saso Petrovski was in the A-League socceroos side (although he doesn't play for Sydney now so that's gone) he also scored a hattrick against the Mariners in that 5-1. Being a statto: Saso Petrovski 06-07 (from http://www.sydneyfc.com) MIN: 1037 GS: 9 MPG: 115.2 Milton Rodriguez 06-07 (from http://www.newcastlejets.com.au) MIN: 1330 GS: 14 MPG: 95 So Milton is actually a fair bit ahead of Saso, but that stupid headband has to take points off

I don't know why so much of this thread is about Milton...they are two different players and it's not like we can pick and choose.
Full credit to Lawrie for making a great signing and doing it so quickly. He is the second highest goalscorer in A-League history. It's a good signing on paper, and there is always an element of risk with new signings as to whether they will fit into the club, but this is much less risky than going for an unknown quantity overseas.
Long may we take Sydney's players as they bumble their way through the salary cap.
And Saso, welcome to the coast!

Flying Jets, good point there. I just hope you weren't trying to brag like that goldjets kid used to. I don't think you could put Newcastle over Adelaide, they have been the most consistent team when you compare v1 to v2, they have been up there both times. I don't think Newcastle is purely running off luck though. Things may have swung there way, but they have worked hard and deserve to be in the finals.

Omni, GS stands for the number of games the player has started not the number of goals scored.

Yes but we have made the finals in both versions of the A-league! And remember Greenpole the Mariners balloon burst along time ago so you shouldn't go gloating.
However lets not get into a debate about this. You guys did better last season while we were the better club during V2 lets let everything sort itself out in the next season.

Mariners swoop for leading marksman Petrovski Monday, 12 February, 2007 - 10:30AM Sasho Petrovski & Tony Vidmar Sasho Petrovski & Tony Vidmar The Central Coast Mariners have commenced their 2007/08 recruitment campaign with the signing of Socceroo striker and leading Hyundai A-League marksman Sasho Petrovski.
Petrovski, 31, is the equal third most prolific goal scorer in Hyundai A-League history, having netted 14 times for inaugural Hyundai A-League Champions Sydney FC over two seasons.
Including all competitive matches since the beginning of Australia’s new football era, Petrovski is second only to the Melbourne Victory’s Archie Thompson in terms of goals scored – with Petrovski scoring 21 goals to Thompson’s 22.
Petrovski is also one of only five players to have scored a hat trick in the history of the Hyundai A-League, ironically against the Mariners at Bluetongue Central Coast Stadium in November 2005.
Petrovski’s goal scoring exploits also include earning the National Soccer League (NSL) top goal scorer award in 2000/01 after a massive 21 goal haul for eventual Champions the Wollongong Wolves, a record that contributed to Petrovski finishing the NSL with an impressive 0.51 goals per game ratio.
As recently as last August, Petrovski netted his first senior international goal when the Socceroos made their first appearance after the 2006 FIFA World Cup at Aussie Stadium in an Asian Cup qualifier against Kuwait.
Petrovski made his Socceroo debut in August 2001 at Japan’s Shizuoka Stadium and was invited to several training camps under former Socceroo boss Guus Hiddink in the lead up to Australia’s historic FIFA World Cup qualifying triumph over Uruguay in November 2005.
Petrovski is now the latest addition to an elite band of Mariners players to have represented Australia at full senior level, a group that also includes Michael Beauchamp, Tom Pondeljak and Tony Vidmar.
"One of the key areas where we were often found wanting last season was up front and, in Sasho, we have acquired one of the best finishers in the Hyundai A-League," said Mariners Executive Chairman Lyall Gorman.
"His goal scoring record is one of the best in Australia and I’m confident that we’ll see him continue to impress in a yellow and navy jersey in 2007/08.
"I’m very excited to be welcoming a player of Sasho’s stature to the club and his signing is the first of a few that we believe will see us re-establish ourselves as a force to be reckoned with in Australian football and accelerate our ambition to become the centre of excellence for football in Australia."
During his time with the Mariners’ southern rivals, Petrovski contributed significantly to the successes of the inaugural Champions, finishing each Hyundai A-League season as the club’s top goal scorer.
Petrovski represented Sydney FC at the 2005 Oceania Club Championships in Tahiti, where he netted four goals to help Sydney qualify for the 2005 FIFA Club World Championships in Japan, where Petrovski made starting appearances against Central American powerhouses Deportivo Saprissa and African Champions Al Ahly.
Four years earlier, Petrovski made his first appearance at the showpiece event of the Oceania domestic football scene, this time representing the Wollongong Wolves in Papua New Guinea.
Petrovski scored an amazing 13 goals in seven matches, including a massive seven-goal haul against Tongan champions Lotoha’pai FC, a tally which sees Petrovski hold the record for most goals scored in Oceania Club Championships history.
Prior to linking with Sydney FC, Petrovski enjoyed a season-and-a-half stint in Denmark’s top flight with Viborg FF.
Petrovski’s first season in Scandinavia saw him top the goal scoring charts for the Danish peninsula club, before returning to Australia to link with the Parramatta Power at the tail end of their 2003/04 NSL campaign.
In 15 appearances with the Power, Petrovski scored seven goals en route to the last ever NSL Grand Final at Parramatta Stadium, where Petrovski lined up alongside fellow Mariners players Paul O’Grady and Andre Gumprecht.
Most recently, however, Petrovski made headlines for arguably the most spectacular goal of the 2006/07 Hyundai A-League season – a long range thunderbolt against the Newcastle Jets on New Years Day.
"I’m looking forward to it, when things weren’t going too well with Sydney earlier on in the year, I thought coming to the Mariners would be the perfect and ideal move if I was to continue in the Hyundai A-League," said Petrovski.
"As a goal scorer, you always want to score goals and break a few records along the way, I always put a lot of pressure on myself to score goals and I have ambitions win trophies, win awards and break records with the Mariners."

I tell you what, they're quick. His name is already on the website as a stiker in the team section. Meanwhile, Crawley is still listed as GK???

a bit of an anti-climax eh bear? I have these often ;D This forum has always been ahead of the mariners website in terms of revealing signings and announcements. It's no wonder the media spend so much time on here. Good to have things made official though. Good research by Coonan there too, quite an impressive record.
