Didn't Lawrie say the same thing about Vidmar? i think it's called playing the expectations game - we can do without him, so we can offer him maybe a little less than he wants. of course the rider is that if he comes in at a good price, we'll take him. but in the meantime nobody should get their hopes too high, but quite frankly it seems to be the fans of other clubs that are doing that...

Bit of a gamble with his year lay off And why change a winning team? We already have enough depth IMO, why would we need another attacking midfielder? Who would you drop? Waste of money I say He is a great player and can defend as well as attack. Great value

Would be a great signing, was one of the stars of the last few nsl seasons And that was how many years ago? Remember how long it took Jamie McMaster to get match fit after languishing in Norway's leagues (courtesy of being loaned from Leeds)? Jamie didn't have any lingering knee injury, but it still took him about 6 weeks before Lawrie would risk him in a dead rubber game in the final match of the season proper in HALv1. Expect the same level of fitness from Elrich - he now has to pay for all his gym fees etc. now he's released by Fulham - unless that Swedish club takes him up. Where is Elrich going to go anyway? He has no contract, maybe the Swedes think he's OK for them - maybe not. If I was Lawrie I'd be making an enquiry, but I wouldn't be maxing out the salary cap for him (he has coached him in the past, so he knows what he WAS capable of). Elrich has plenty of incentive to come home and re establish himself. All he is probably asking for is a decent salary and a good chance of making the team. All the Mariners can offer him is the opportunity to get fit, train hard and maybe force his way into the starting line up or the bench. But is the season long enough for Elrich to become fit and train well enough, to stake his claim within the season? Won't hate the guy if he does get signed by the Mariners - would love to see him eventually challenge Tommy, Owens, Porter and Gumps for a midfield role. I have enough faith in Lawrie's judgement that if he was signed - he would fit in.

I'm pretty sure that McMaster never played in Norway. I think you will find it was Denamrk

Probably had more to do with work ethic and 'life' outside of football. If Jimmy Mc had of been breath tested on the morning of the GF, he wouldn't of been allowed on the bus for the trip to Sydney let alone to take the field like he did.

From the article his brother say's:
"Because of his knee injury, it’s just been tough for him. Whatever club he goes to, he just wants to be guaranteed a spot.
NO player is guaranteed a spot in a team, regardless of who they are.
Shirtless, would give Nik and Sasho a run for their 'calender' money. ;D
