I really had high hopes of getting this guy, because I reckon he really would've added another dimension in attack, and strengthened the squad as well. .............Mrdja...Sasho Kwasnik...Tommy...Mile...Elrich IMO, that attack there, would have been one of, if not, the best in the league. However, If what you say are true, regarding his weight and touch, it is the correct decision to avoid him. Even though, I had been told the opposite about his fitness.

Yeah right Just like fat arse Jardel, get paid to get fit. FFS They're 'suppossed' to be professional footballer's, it's 'their' responsibillity to stay fit. It's like asking an employer to employ someone with a HSC education for a position that requires a University degree. Should the employer give them a job with the 'hope' that after spending dollars on 'training/education' it 'might' get them up to speed with the rest of his/her work colleages? Fcuk that! just hire the guy that's already got the degree & is the right (pardon the pun) "FIT" 4 the job!

I know its 442 rumour mill, and it was posted by someone from Newcastle, but I thought id post it anyway...
Mariners to announce Elrich - 442
"Ahmed Elrich will be announced officially as a Mariners player on Monday. He has stated that he wants to return to Australia to play in the A-league, in a hope of getting a Socceroo Call-up"
If it is true, which I dont think it is, I just hope for his sake he gets fit and dose a good job, or there may be a few people saying "I told you so", me being one of them.

I'm pretty sure that McMaster never played in Norway. I think you will find it was Denamrk I stand corrected - he was with AGF Aarhus of Denmark before joining the Mariners.

Remember how long it took Jamie McMaster to get match fit after languishing in Norway's leagues (courtesy of being loaned from Leeds)? Jamie didn't have any lingering knee injury, but it still took him about 6 weeks before Lawrie would risk him in a dead rubber game in the final match of the season proper in HALv1. Probably had more to do with work ethic and 'life' outside of football. If Jimmy Mc had of been breath tested on the morning of the GF, he wouldn't of been allowed on the bus for the trip to Sydney let alone to take the field like he did. Oh dear... imagine if he happened to have been drug tested. ASADA: "Mr. Gorman there's an irregularity in McMaster's A sample" Gorman: "Oh reaaally, what's wrong?" ASADA: "Well the good news is there's no banned substances like steroids, or masking agents present, but he was registering 0.173 as a blood alcohol level -your player was pissed, sir." ;D I will pre empt a corrective missive from Dibo by linking the ASADA relevant page below: www.asada.gov.au/substances/facts/alcohol.htm

It seems there is some confusion about whether Elrich is heading our way or not. For your sake, he better not get signed -can't imagine him wanting to give you an interview, if he does turn up on the Coast after what you've said there. Hope your 'sauce' is not mucking you around.

Everyone knows what Lawrie and the Mariners are like with the press, we were not interested in Vidmar but signed him, we were not interested in Petrovski but we signed him................

Oh I agree DJ, Lawrie and the Mariners love to play 'ducks and drakes' with everyone. And I would have thought the safest way to look at the situation would have been to cop a few splinters and sit on the fence. But Mick has made the 'not interested' type statement and made comments about Elrich's condition too. Did anyone make similar comments about Petrovski and Vidmar (e.g. about their condition or touch) when they were first rumoured to be heading here?

I wonder where he is now Does anyone know? Good question. I saw a comment on here that he was heading OS to try and get back with Leeds. No idea how factual that was. Melsy knew Jamie from school days, I think, so she might have some contact with his parents - or someone else here might?

Did anyone make similar comments about Petrovski and Vidmar (e.g. about their condition or touch) when they were first rumoured to be heading here? I personally don't remember any comments about Vidmar or Petrovski's condition, prior to their announcement. However in saying that, the situation of them joining were entirely different to Ahmed's situation. Ahmed Elrich is recovering from a lengthy knee injury and prior to that, had played very little football. So to hear that he is unfit and/or overweight can not really come as that much of a surprise. He's also coming straight into a team who have completed their pre-season fitness regime. Although, Vidmar was having problems with his heart, he had just completed a stint at NEC Breda, where he was playing regular first-team football for a season. So besides those problems regarding his heart, he was still fit and was able to play a part in our pre-season. As we all know Petrovski had just completed the Finals Series with Sydney FC when he was announced and was able to participate fully in pre-season. There was never really an issue over his fitness for those comments to be made.

I dont think there was anything in the leeds rumours. as far as i know he has recently returned from europe where he was on the lookout for a club. Im not sure if he was successful in teeing anything up though. The fact that he is back would indicate he was probably unsuccessful, but he might have something organised for the near future

Being told something by a source is one thing, putting into the public domain is another. Could he not have just said that enquiries were made and Lawrie wasn't interested? I quoted the whole of Mick's post, if there's any ambiguity in what I've quoted - ask Mick - I've not been selective in what part of the quote I've used. My own comments about being brave and putting that info into the public domain is to be read straight. The only emoticon I put in that comment was the wink used straight after I had deliberately misspelt source - that's a nod to Jaza and his mate 'Sauce'. Given that's there is confusion about whether Elrich is headed our way or not, and given the past non interest/interest the club has portrayed with past signings (like DJ has mentioned), I do believe that Mick is being brave putting such info out. It can backfire onto him, if Elrich doesn't like what he sees, and turns out for the Mariners. That's my opinion - am I not entitled to an opinion? And why is it that I must explain quoting a 3 lined comment from Mick, and my own views about that, mmm? (this happens a fair bit to some of us here) My own views can extrapolate from what Mick has written here, I quite frankly couldn't give a gay toss into a balloon if anyone agrees. Mick is more than capable of handling himself, he's been around players for years. If his info proves wrong, I'm sure he can still maintain the same level of good work he's done over the years.

Sorry you had to cop it from him about the comments from last year. I suppose he knows you're also a Mod on this forum, and probably thought you should have shut things down. And Thursday night would have been a good time for Nik to shove the "I told you so, c**ts" routine down everyone's throat. He's been playing well, and just had the callup into the Socceroos squad. Mick, you know who I am, so if it happens that Nik and I are in the same room at the one time, point me out to him, as I am more than responsible enough to hear what he has to say. I know I made comments about his injury status and expressed some views that the player himself might have thought unfair at the time. Having copped past sprays from hardcore ferals, criminals, 2000+ assembled and excited wellwishers of arriving passengers of certain ethnic origin, protesters, strung out junkies and kids who want a free ride, Nik's spray will be like water off a duck's back.
